We need to get out of that spirit of marching and begging for civil rights. How the hell u gonna listen to a people thats pleading with you when you posses atomic weapons ?
I agree. This trend is widespread, especially in America. While we innovate, ownership often slips away, be it through sales or theft. The question remains: how do we reclaim what was stolen, and is it not our responsibility to preserve the culture we created, preventing it from being sold back to us? I find it intriguing that our culture, initially a way of life, has become a commodity. Someone saw its value and wondered, who would pay to be that stylish, to learn that form of speech, or to dress that way? The very people who were already doing it. I used to find it challenging to sell to someone who didn't look like me (target audience), but nowadays, it seems you can sell anything to anyone! As JAY-Z wisely put it, "Even Water to a Whale."
As an immigrant, I think PW is mistaken. I know he is. Immigrants keep their money amongst themselves. Small personal and profit sharing loans are common in mexican, central aneircan, asian, Indian/Pakistani and Korean communities. They don't need mainstream banks to get 10K, 20K, 30k loans, work the business, 18 hours, living upstairs or behind, inside their businesses. Most Americans don't know that kind of sacrifice. Work it for 10, 15 even 20 years until they have success. Along the way, mainstream banks see their progress and start soliciting those same immigrants to take out bigger loans. We agree to disagree.
Paul been like this and hasnt changed, he married a black woman has beautiful kids also he been treating people well. Thats why the culture embraced Paul Wall. Besides a rapper i respect his grind and his views, hes really of the culture.
But what culture are we protecting?? Drug dealing, promoting of violence etc. Hip Hop was a way to uplift and stop the violence that was happening in the South Bronx. As someone who’s been down with Hip Hop since ‘79, tell me what culture you’re protecting 1st, cuz all I see is a bunch half naked people and ignorance. Who’s the Public Enemy or the KRS-1’s or Rakim’s or Queen Latifah’s dropping KNOWLEDGE? I’m cool with partying and having a good time, but if it’s all about dumb sh** & how many H**’s you smashed then sh** might as well let anyone do it
agreed. HipHop has become so popular that we want to protect it even though it's mostly become nonsense. But the popularity makes us want to hang on to it no matter what, even though there's more important things we can be worried about.

You just said it! The culture didn't start where is is now because it wasn't protected. This is what I feel we are all missing when we ask..."What culture are we protecting?" Most of them were cool. Some were disrespectful. When the riots hit they got to pulling out AK47s to protect the business. This was late 80s. Lies. It was created by Black American culture solely. The bigger question is why do yall have such a hard time giving Black Americans credit for our creations? Massa taught you well.
It was not created by all races, stop the cap. It is strictly black american culture just like blues and jazz. Nobody is saying it should only be consumed by black people but at least give credit where credit is due.
@rockb922 the very first break beat (Kool herc played) came from the song Apache. That song was created by two white men and one African man. The first crews in the bronx were black and spanish. I just said black Americans created all music. Can you not read and comprehend! Or did they not let you learn how to read and write? Gtfohwtbs
I think Americans need to learn what culture is. Culture isn’t race. An African or a black person in Germany has nothing to do with hip hop culture . Originally hip hop was a New York culture specifically by way of the Bronx by Jamaican, Puerto Rican and New York. That culture spread to the boroughs then went coast to coast thus forming branches of that initial culture from New York. So you can’t sit here in 2023 and say it’s black culture. Culture may stem from a particular race but it generally has no color. If that’s the case then no one should be wearing pants and shorts thus looking like a westerner. We all should be wearing clothes specific to our culture
Oh no hip hop is DEFINITELY a black culture. It is specific to black AMERICANS because we are the ones who originated it. Now can other races, people from different walks of life participate in it? Sure! But don't attempt to erase it's origins & disrespect it's creators.
@@lordjava4316 who will erase the origins? Everyone knows where it came from, like how does one erase an origin of something? This isn’t like rock n roll where white ppl literally stole the art form or a least those early songs from black ppl. In hip hop that hasn’t happened.
