- If you've gone backpacking, camping, or overlanding you've probably tried a freeze dried or dehydrated meal. Maybe something from Mountain House, Peak Refuel, or Backpacker's Pantry.
I've tried many different options from all those companies above and for the most part, they're ok. Some are kind of gross, but if you need something in a pinch because you don't have anything else to eat, they will do the job.
However, there's a new option from a restaurant out of Louisiana, called Mamoo's Camp Kitchen. They've got a ton of unique offerings that you won't find in the list of foods on those other guys menus. Check out the full video for all the info on the different flavors and my honest feedback on the Blend of the Bayou meal that I eat on my trip when filming this.

Love supporting the smaller companies who make it a point to provide quality food and products. Great video!
Thanks my friend!
Mmm I will have check them out it sound good you know I like food😊
Haha, I was super surprised, having had a lot of freeze dried meals that were just ok. These things are legitimately delicious.
Great video dude! I'm gonna check these out. I have a trip next month to Colorado and it would be so nice to have a legit freeze dried meal onboard. Safe travels👍
Thanks! I'm serious that the "Blend of the Bayou" was delicious. I'm going to get more for all future trips, haha.
I'll have to give them a try. They are a little more expensive than the big boys, maybe a little less "prepperish" in that I wouldn't see people stockpiling these, but I would say that for me, that actually overlands on freeze-dried it does bridge the gap between the standard meals and going full-bore making your own.
Good point. I use freeze dried meals less for prepping and more for convenience on overlanding trips where I don't want to bring a lot of ingredients so, like you mentioned, it's a great, tasty option for a quick and easy dinner.
That’s look real good and just enough for a good meal, on another note, any advice on the new tent open-road? Thanks
I'm loving the Openroad tent. It's high quality and still reasonably priced. For more info on it, check out this video where I walk through all the features of the tent: ua-cam.com/video/V2TwHwRBTJY/v-deo.html.
Having to be conscious of a heart issue I wish the companies could figure out a way to make them heart healthy without all of the sodium.
Good point. I'm not sure how hard that is, but that does seem to be sort of a staple of these types of meals.
What’s the shelf life of that product?
20-25 years
Thanks for the info! And keep up the great work with this stuff. It's delicious.
All MRE's from all types of vendors are ridiculously priced, learn to cook and quit pissing away resources that will be needed soon!
I know how to cook. I just don’t always want to, 😂.
