When youre practicing anything i always find it helpful to have 1 singleminded focus at a time throughout the entirety of whatever practice session youre doing. For example its easy to mindlesly practice deathmatch because its relatively comfortable to mindlessly grind. Its SO important that youre CONPLETELY focused on just 1 thing at a time. Which i know can be overwhelming because theres just so much other stuff to learn but people inherently suck at multitasking so if you spread that focus too wide you end up getting better at nothing. A few kind of prompts i gave myself when getting better at Deathmatch are: 1. Making sure regardless of situation my crosshair is at head level posted on an angle only briefly leaving its post to pre aim an angle or to fight someone (make sure not to hold angles, you want to be constantly checking new ones as frequently as possible to make the excersise harder/more valuable) 2. Binding W to equip melee making it manditory to only fight people with your A and D keys (my personal fav amd what i recommend you right now. Also only do this in deatmatch never in real games unless youre a psycho) 3. bringing the timing of the stopping and starting movements in your 2 shot bursts as low as you can possibly manage (you can think of valorant gunfights as a (accurately fired bullets):(time spent moving) ratio. the better the ratio the less you will die
Thanks friend! Yeah I didn't notice the improvement, it felt like I was treading water. But looking back over this video I can definitely see it. Hopefully I can show more in future videos:)
Ive been watching the journy so far and me being silver myself, i understand the pain of learning how to get good, keep up the good work! I can already see the improvment!
Thanks! How long you been grinding in SIlver for? I think sometimes you don't recognise the progress you've made but looking back I can see it happened (thankfully).
Hi dan. I love the commitment. Im a fellow boomer (42), diamond player that has been able to climb despite below average aim. Keep it up, i will join the ride and follow the journey!
@Danreks Yes of course I've had to change my approach to focus more on the games sense, movement and utility usage and less reliant on aim. Of course aim is important. However I know my reaction will naturally be slower so I tend to focus on support agents rather than duallists. KJ, Cypher, Omen, viper are great picks to build a good base off of. I'd be happy to share some basic things a focus on to help in your climb.
I don't know if you watch much valorant content but that helped me improve a lot! Just putting on a high level stream or video to notice some things they do right or even things they do wrong. It's great to get yourself in the headspace of what high level play looks like for understanding how the game works. And it's good content to watch while you're doing something trivial like eating or cleaning!
Yeah I've been watching Charla7an, RoyalG, NattyAim etc. If you know of any particularly good vids feel free to link them. Especially people progressing like myself. Thank you for the comment much appreciated!
keep going brother youre improving very well, i would suggest going into the practice range and learn all the agents abilities and how to use them because players with ability usage is low in lower ranks so youll have an advantage over them. Subbed and liked ❤
There are so many things to learn that I take for granted since I played a lot of counter strike and other games. It's really good how fast you are picking up the skills. I think your best skill is how good you are able to detect what you need to improve and actually work a lot on it, you will be high rank in the future!
It sounds like you have a lot of unconscious competence which is a great place to be. I'm at the other end that if I try focusing on things like crosshair placement it takes up all the bandwidth and so I tend to not focus on other things. SO really just trying to get this to be more intuitive and a habit. I guess it takes time:) Thank you for the comment!
When u play deathmatch, try to ignore the kills and put your entire focus on the crosshair placement...placing ur crosshair at EXPECTED headlvl at all times...and try not to spray with the vandal, burst with 2 bullets strafe then burst...these two things will give u a lot of improvement....Great vid
Yeah so this next video I am working specifically on crosshair placement! THank you for the tips. I know that crosshair placement is my most glaring flaw right now.
I'm 40, I had no experience in FPS and today, after playing Valorant since the beta, I'm Asc 3. You are doing a great job. Tips: focus on crosshair placement. That will ALWAYS give you advantages. Then, get out of the habit of reloading, learn to stay with few bullets and with that you will give less information to the enemy. Plus you should take advantage of those bullets to the head. Play more with sheriff, it is a weapon that forces you to hit the head.
So these seem to be the two main criticisms im hearing. Don't reload all the time and also crosshair placement. There have been times I forget to reload and get caught out so I guess it's becoming a fear reload. And this next vid I am 100% focusing on crosshair placement. Thanks a lot for the comment. How have you found the FPS journey?
@Danreks Quite fun. The improvement is noticeable. ¿Could you show some of your games, so we can see how you play as a team and how you interact with the rest of your teammates?
This is the first video I've seen on your progress but i can tell you come a long way keep it up man I'm definitely subscribing to see the rest of your progress! :]
Thank you you're still early to the channel and we can call you an OG if I manage to make it in this valorant world:) Thanks for the support it means a lot.
1 thing that I have noticed is that you reload in deathmatches too. In deathmatches when you get a kill, the gun gets reload by itself. Another thing, please don't reload too early, you have enough bullets to land multiple headshots or spray at least 2-3 enemies in a single mag (Vandal - 25 bullets). At last, try to aim at head level at all times, you are looking at the floor more often. I hope this helps you. 👍🙌
Ok thanks for the heads up. I guess I just am more fearful of running out of ammo and it's a habit thing at this point. And crosshair placement is definitely my next drill to work on!
Yeah I was feeling like i havn't improved. It's a strange how that happens because when I made this video, and especially that montage, I was blown away. I just don't seem to be ranking up:)
I think your mechanics are better then people in bronze as a person that was in your boat and now a diamond player just continue locking iso or reyna and just out aim everyone until you get into at least silver. You need to just keep telling yourself ranked is the same as a dm if you lose its a game your there for fun as I struggled to stay calm. Pretty much no one silver and below aim trains so think you’ll gain pretty quickly the woohoojin gold drill helped me a ton to
Yeah I hope so. I definitely need to be confident and tackle fights like a DM. But I was doing some stupid stuff like not peeking properly, checking corners and crosshair placement that I am working on right now.
You’re awesome. I am a immortal 2 and I want to tell you that the fastest way of improving is using a duelist like iso or Reyna because it really helps you with your mechanics and just playing is enough to improve game sense but at the end of the day omen is a great character and it’s your choice. Also I love what you are doing and it is really cool to see someone serious about the game drastically improving, you will get radiant in no time. Keep doing what you are doing, much love❤👍
I guess for me I can still work on that mechanics etc in aim training, practice range and deathmatches. What's letting me down is bad crosshair placement, peeking like an idiot, and rushing into fights I can't possibly win. So my thinking is focusing on that is only going to aid my mechanics because each fight I have will give me a chance to use those skills better, than say running into 3 people and getting gunned down. I hope that makes sense? Ultimately, my main agent I want to move too is Omen so there's also that. Do you play ISO/Reyna or what is your main agent?
Second comment: I would REALLY focus on only free for all deathmatches until you feel extremely comfortable in gunfights, I am no expert in this game but I was global elite in csgo and one thing is you look really stiff in the way you move your crosshair and stuff. If I were you, I would spend my time tryibf to reach a goal of like... as many ffa deathmatches as possible played, maybe 1000-2000 dm games actively working on crosshair placement and taking good fights, and movement. You could get in maybe 6 to 7 dms per hour, if you did that for 8 hours a day for a month i'd be curious to see how much you improve. Probably the most of any method.
I think you'd find me at the bottom of a lake with a heavy weight around my foot doing that. But I am pushing the DM's though. I did 5 DM's a day for 2 weeks and it made a big difference. I've only done FPS for three months so happy with my progress so far.
You can improve as high as you want! You aren't 100! I think your biggest enemy or wall based on a title like this will be showing yourself you can do what you put your mind to 65 or 25. I would focus on the journey and not capping yourself at anything lower than rank 1 on the leaderboard! Not that you "have to reach rank 1" or even that you will, but realize you can always improve from where you are... don't convince yourself "ok i have hit radiant(or any rank) I cant learn anything more", it is nonsense! :)
That's good advice. I think it can be quite easy to make excuses rather than believing in yourself and just going for it. I guess I am enjoying the process though in the end I end up where I end up. If that makes sense. But I'll always be looking to improve no matter what my rank.
Yeah I do. twitch.tv/danreks_ I need to stream more often and consistently. But keep dropping the ball on that one. But I am gonna put a more dedicated effort into it.
