Anthony DeMello's "Awareness" was my original introduction to Eastern Philosophy. Years later, in the stress of over-work I read, "The Heart of the Enlightened," reminding me to slow down at a time my life was only speeding up. It inspired me to head to Southeast Asia and study meditation, Buddhism, Hinduism, and yoga. DeMello is still my incredible bridge between Christian and Hindu thought. Makes me happy to see you, someone who got me through the stress of Silicon Valley life when I did return to Western life, reading him now. Thank you for using youtube as a space to slow down enough to listen to the words of a book

What I always loved about Demello is that he does not spend much time or any time describing fantastic states and stuff like pumping your chakras so you can become happy until the day you drop. He gives us a lot of reminders about the pile of chains we carry while begging for scraps of freedom. One of his favorite theme is our addiction to gold medals and various forms.of approval addiction. As for his description of the awakened states he is.often in alignment with other humble masters like Thich Nat Han. You will stop looking beyond grass and flowers and you will start to see.things you have never seen before... maybe a bit like Blake the.poet who saw the world.in a grain of sand.

Good job Aubrey. You got the gist of his teaching. i like to monitor myself these days using the "status seeking meter" Pay attention to attachments, procrastination and also impulse buying as well. Those will lead you baxk to the soul's workshop where the deprograming work can start. DeMello zoomed in on a core human tendancy that garantees our enslavement that forces we simply need to recognize and look in the eye without using our favorite evasion tricks.

you have a calm way of talking that makes people feel welcome, I listen to all your podcasts. Thanks for promoting kindness and love, it's much needed in a world of give and take. People have this responsibility to themselves that gets lost when they cannot express it to themselves and to others. There's a lot of room for growth in showing this potential to people. What a light

I heard of Anthony de Mello years ago from reading a Brennan Manning book. I enjoy your perspectives and when I first heard de Mello some 5 years ago, “my” Boxer was dying on the couch and I knew it. I’d like your discernment on this but the next morning when I carried his or a body to the car to go the vet, I knew that he would not make it. He calmed down an hour or so before he went limp yet still breathing. I wonder if grace and his doggedly loving determination kelp him from leaving a body because of an awareness that I was observing.
This quote resonated with me and I am processing through an awakening and there’s been feelings of anxiety. It’s strange because I used to talk about stuff to look good, trying to convince myself. To teach best what I most needed and continue to be willing to unlearn. I recall hearing him say that if and when you want to be happy, to drop our fears, illusions and attachments. I’m sick of pretending and trusting the process is imperative. Avoiding the AS SOON AS _______ then I’ll be happy. Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as Richard Rohr references
I’m feeling feelings that I’d suppressed with distractions and the way it’s playing out really does appear to be surreal and zero coincidences
Got divorced little over a year ago and my dad passed in August 2021. And I choose not to diminish or beef up the histrionics for pity. I do know that I don’t know
    -
You’re not living until it doesn’t matter a tinker’s damn to you whether you live or die. At that point you live. When you’re ready to lose your life, you live it.
-Anthony de Mello (INDIAN-BORN AMERICAN THEOLOGIAN)
I feel confused and uncertain and the caricature the “me” armored my self image is dissolving and it’s surrendering to what is. A feeling of abandonment

He Aubry, wow what an amazing insight the book provided. It opened up a truth that I would not have accepted even a couple of months ago. You've inspired me before with books like stealing fire and gave insights into my own dive in the unknown of other realms opened by psychedelics. Its great knowledge that inspired and inspires me to keep on walking the path that I more and more often feel towards than the thinking that used to propel my decision making in the past.
The small peace off carefully chosen storytelling that you offered us fits into my rewrite of my story, uncovering my attachment of a past love that I thought I still loved. In meditation a few weeks ago I connected to the anker it represented, fearful of loosing the fictitious person living in my mind I made sure never to confront the reality of the now. With painful memories its much more obvious to release the old and accept the current awesomeness of the now.
Today I'm nostalgically grateful for the chapter it represents in my ever unfolding story of life, awesome to get new perspectives trough the sharing of your inspiration.

"The Way To Love" has been a very, very dear friend for the past 30 years now. Yes, small in size it may appear, but as we all know, appearances can be deceptive. If you are in need of a friend for life, one that will open your heart to love - True Love, then start dancing, for herein you have been blessed with just that ❤

In a spiral of jealous thought I felt it was justified just by being a belief. I felt that there was something missing to give this feeling of jealousy the correct perspective. Not in the sense to escape this jealous thought to delude myself of the the negative emotion, but because it wasn’t truth, just a belief. Why would I let it control my life if it brings about such needless suffering. Instead, I choose truth. Thank you Aubrey :)
