Hi, Rachel~ Thanks so much for continuing to document your journey. I’ve been following you for YEARS. Seeing your videos is such a highlight to my life. I’m w you- I think a bigger rug would do the trick. Mayb get an 8 X 10 or 7 X 9, & see how u like that? Oh! And I so love the slippers you’ve been wearing.
Love the couch. Its a pretty rug, but I think your style is a bit more muted. That's not a super colourful rug, IMO, but it is a very busy print. Don't forget that you have dark grey cabinets, which do make things look darker, so some colour may not be so bad. However, less pattern, maybe calmer. None of my business, but I'm so excited to see all the new changes! So happy for you. 🙂
Just a thought. I think the couch looks great but part of the awkwardness comes from squeezing it into a corner and away from the wall, making the room look both cramped and ungrounded. It also creates a too-big travel path. I get wanting to use the quirky corner space next to the pillar, but I think the current sofa placement just draws attention to it. I know you wanted a shelf at the back of the sofa, etc. but I really think that moving the sofa away from the windows and up against the wall will allow you to have a more coherent, cosy space that will also feel way bigger (and will also mean the larger rugs fit perfectly.) The freed-up corner would be great for a big plant or a tall reading lamp.
I'll have to show it in another video but its way off center from a tv unit. If I move it over it faces two doors and I'm just not sure thats the right feel 🩷
@@rachelleeaUrgh. That's a pain. I now get why you want to push the sofa into a corner and keep a rectangular living room so everything stays symmetrical. If you do find that doesn't work, or makes everything too small, though, another option would be to opt for a corner media unit and then place an ottoman or seat or tall plant next to it, to create a separation from the doors. That might mean keeping the smaller sized of rug, though. Having just finished furnishing a home with a very awkward layout, I suggest stacking any empty cardboard boxes and using them as stand-ins for furniture to see what works. Looks ridiculous as a process but really helped me work out what felt right before I bought new pieces. It really is a beautiful flat. Congratulations on the move.
Carpet…the 9 ft. edge was in the right direction. Your whole sofa width fit on it well. You want at least the front feet of all seating to be sitting on the carpet. Even front feet of end tables on it too if you add those on one or both sides of the sofa, so pretty wide. 8 x 10 is usually a MINIMUM size carpet for ANY living room conversation zone and can move with you to pretty much any space. But 9 x 12 ft. is even nicer if your room is big enough. The rule is…the bigger the carpet the bigger your ROOM feels. It can go right up to the walls parallel to your sofa, no problem. Designer for 25 years here. And…hang your curtains as high as you can (get longer curtains so you can) and the rod wider than the window. High and wide so windows look as big as possible and curtains can stack back sitting on the wall and not covering the window. 😊
I'm saving all of these videos for when I start decorating my apartment. We've just finished renovations and we have to wait a year or so before we can buy new furniture and all the fun stuff. Thank you for documenting your journey. I'm getting addicted to your videos
I think the rug size and initial placement is good. When you have a rug you like and the rest of your furniture & decor it won't feel like it sticks out so much.
Your apartment is so cute. The only thing I would do different is put the couch in the indented wall or move the couch where you would put your tv and then get a wall unit for the indented wall where you have the couch now. But you have such a creative eye that you will see what is right for you. Enjoy decorating.
I think next video I’ll move the couch around so we can all see and decide where. My plan was to get a little sofa table and put it behind the couch with maybe a lamp and some books or a plant 💛🩵
Do not go smaller on the rug, if anything, go bigger! A small rug in a large area will only make the space look smaller. You could either do an 8x10 and have it the way you were showing us, or a rug the same size as the one you got with the same original placement and then you can add a thin smaller rug on the end to do a layering look. Also, once you get the furniture for the tv, it’ll fill the space more and you’ll have a better sense of what it’ll look like.
If you haven’t checked out The Container Store - it’s a must. It’s my favorite 😊. Also, just something fun….West Elm and Pottery Barn do free design consults. Might be fun to see what they suggest for your rug size and other things.
I was in dc for school for two years and used a Brita or bottled water. I found it made a difference from the school tap. Love watching the set up and unpacking. Your videos are so relaxing and inspiring me to organize!
Definitely a bigger rug ! My sister used carpet instead, she couldn’t found the perfect size rug because they have standard sizes so with a carpet you can cut it the size you need and want, and you can found some with really nice colors 💖 Hope you found what you want ! But your apparement is already look so good 🎉
Don’t go smaller for the rug! You definitely want at least the front feet of your sofa on the rug - but agree to change for something more muted! Is it possible to put the sofa in that little alcove? It would possibly make the rug situation easier to work with if the sofa was tucked in there, and allow room on the window side for a small occasional chair
Either keep the size you have now - once you have some kind of console/media cabinet on the other side it will look fine - or 8x10 rug and keep the original orientation. You can shift the couch over a foot or so to keep it centred with the rug and maybe put a side table between the couch and window? You definitely don't want to go any smaller than the size you have now.
I use a Brita here in DC because I also don’t like the taste of the tap and I use the Elite filters because unlike most, they actually remove lead which is really the only thing I care about removing from tap water. They last a long time too! Happy with mine!
Also unrelated, I have a silverware insert in my drawer that is extended and I used 3M strips on the bottom to keep it from sliding around. It works great!
I actually like the rug, but I would go way bigger. Once you have a coffee table and other things in the room it won’t be as noticeable. But it definitely doesn’t look like colors that I would have thought you would choose. 💜
The brita should help! They do really work. You can also get their long lasting filters and they last up to 6 months, so less wasteful than their regular ones.
Love your couch! 🤩👌🏻. For me personally, I’d do larger rug for sure.. and Brita is great. I bought one in my previous place as the water tasted weird and bad there. It really made my water actually taste nice! X
8x10 rug should work!!! Try it out!!! I know you are wanting to incorporate more color (by the soap dispensers you have) but the rug color is too bright for the space. A beige print would work better and maybe start with colorful pillows for the couch? To slowly bring color into your home Love the new couch!!🤍
Just an idea with the water situation I live in Australia and if I don’t like the taste of the water I actually boil the kettle and when it cools down put it in the fridge takes yucky taste away. Won’t hurt to try it. Loving what you’re doing with your apartment.❤😊
Quick suggestion. In your closet, u can go to home depot and get those racks. Measure and have them cut to size and have a handy man/boyfriend add them higher so double the closet hanging racks. I did that in my apartment & when I moved they didn’t say anything.
Currently, I have a water filter in my refrigerator, but in the past, I have rented a water dispenser from Costco and then they deliver 5 gallon water jugs on a biweekly basis. I just got sick of filling the Brita several times a day. I am currently thinking of getting an under sink water filter by radiant life. It’s pretty inexpensive and then you could just drink the water out of the sink faucet. BTW, I live about 5 miles north of DC and if your water is anything like mine you will want a shower filter I just have one from Amazon that attaches but looking at the full showerhead filter from Canopy.
I don’t feel it goes with a white couch-it has tan/cream in it vs true white which the couch is showing up as on screen. Also, I believe in water filtration. Here in Colorado we had instances of cancer from PFC’s in water (from Air Force fire fighting foam on base that reached far from the original location) , better safe than sorry. On the East Coast illegal dumping of chemicals happens into the Atlantic.
@@rachelleea you’re welcome. I get how you feel, I also like more neutral tones in my house. I find it more calming. Having a pop of colour is nice, but it’s important it matches you. Have fun shopping and setting up your new place Love from Australia 🇦🇺
You've got to get a DC Public Library Card but only if you want to. They not only have online books, movies, music,TV but design magazines that could help you get the look you want. It's probably one of the best free things you can get in DC. Enjoy your new home.
I think the rug size is ok. When you add the rest of the furniture it will look better in my opinion. Love when you release a new video! I would love to also see vlogs around the city, if that’s something you enjoy! 😊
Rug rotated like you said for sure not smaller at least😅❤ maybe buy some pax ikea closets storage for both walls in the closet. Drawers and shirts hanging with a top shelf for winter storage on one side, then shoe shelves and long hanging for the other side?
The rug size and original orientation are perfect for the size of couch and living room. If you get a bigger one it will look like your couch is too small for the space. Excited to see the new rug! Have a good day :)
The rug has a beautiful print honestly. It’s too bad it’s not as dark as it looked online. So happy to see you how your space is taking shape though. Great vlog!
Rug & placement size is fine you need room to move it around vaccum clean etc the design is a no to bold need more neutral & you can add colour with accessories
I prefer the Seychelle water pitcher. They have regular, alkaline and even one that takes out radiation 😮 I have alkaline but about to repurchase the regular one.
Hallo there....Regarding the rug....Since it is the beginning of the summer , I think it would be better to wait for the rug. Put the tv and the coffee table and then you can decide for the size , arrangement and colour !!!
Product colors are so influenced by lighting that you don't get the true color until you can see it in person. I think the size is good but I would slide more of it under the sofa and have the sofa centered on the rug from left to right. For me, the sofa would look better moved into the existing niche rather than near the window. I do think a patterned rug with some color is the way to go but definitely more muted than the first pick. You are making great progress.
Go bigger with the rug, 8x10 and have pattern running toward the front of the couch. If it’s too small it will look off. General rule of thumb is all front legs of sofa should be on rug at a bare minimum. The way you originally placed it the pattern was running sideways, looked off, you didn’t get full effect of pattern.
I love a Britta water filter.. I love cold water like all the ice in the world and super chilled water for me. Also (it’s a waste of a filter) I wondered if the filters did anything so I tested it with vodka, you can use your britta to filter vodka and it’s so smooth to drink, but you can’t use the same filter for water and alcohol
I watch on my phone and I can gauge the vibrancy. I personally love the rug and the placement you first put it but I can't convince you if you don't like it
I had my eye on that exact rug and felt the same about wanting more muted colors! I ended up getting the Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi Eden Mughal Garden Black Rug feat. CloudPile. It has a similar vibe but is SO SOFT and better fit the colors in my apartment. Highly recommend!
On looking at the rug under your lounge suite I do agree it is very colourful and you do need t go one size up. If you put a table next to the couch it will wobble as there is not enough room on the side for one. Just a suggestion don’t move the couch right against the window wall . We have Koldrock water delivered to us every month and it’s always ice cold, filtered and the machine makes ice & hot water on demand….we drink way more water since doing this because it’s actually delicious
Slightly bigger rug is better but place it the first way you had it. I prefer to stay away from the patterns as your taste can change. I have the Vindum rug (white/grey) rug from IKEA. Had it for years and it goes with everything. I’ve changed up my spaces so many times and this rug always fits into the new style 🌸💖 I’m enjoying seeing the apartment come together
Oh do you still have your fox sake mug? I remember first watching your vids and seeing this mug. I went and bought it too, great find from TRS. Melbs girlie here 🤣🌸 I still have mine it’s still one of my favs
A slightly bigger rug is better with more of it under the couch and the couch moved abit more toward the kitchen. With the rug placed as you had it first.
I always feel guilty for drinking bottled water. I did go back to my boyfriends each night and drank then. And then I did end up buying two big bottles to get me through 2 days and then I got the Brita so we’re all good now 💛💛
Another suggestion would be to get everything you need for the livingroom, then it will be easier for you to decide on the size of the rug.
Bigger rug would look better and definitely another pattern. That patter would be great as a piece of art.
I would definitely want a larger rug. Up to you!
LOVE my Brita. Been using one for well over 10 years. It does make a difference. 😊
I agree with you, that rug is too bold & kind of a grannie like look to it. Can't wait to see what you choose.

Rug size and placement is fine. Your TV stand should just be on the floor, not on the rug at all. Don't get a bigger one, it'll overwhelm the room.

Been loving theese movingvlogs❤
I lovvve that you have the Catan phone app. Oms!❤
Oh man no I dont, I think I had it in Toronto and I accidentally smashes it 🙈 so so sad
I love the rug, it adds something special but I think it should be quite a bit bigger….definitely not smaller.
I actually like the size of the rug as it is :) loved the video!
A slightly bigger rug is better with more of it under the couch and the couch moved abit more toward the kitchen. With the rug placed as you had it first.
I agree with you, the rug is a no and too short.
Looks amazing
Dont you have a dryer?❤🇨🇦
definitely need a bigger rug 👍
I love you and I will always adore your lovely Timelapse ❤️
Glad you like them! thank you ❤️❤️
An 8x10 would work good.
Love the rug but maybe a muted larger rug would be better! 💕
love it
Rug is beautiful...
Love the rugs!!!Love when people decorate with color!!!
I really want to do colour this time, just trying to figure out exactly what type of colour
I love the rug!
Enjoying this *Moving Series* 😊 just a little question, so you didn't drink water for 3-4 days yet store bottled water is an option?🤔😅
❤ from 🇰🇪 Kenya
I always feel guilty for drinking bottled water. I did go back to my boyfriends each night and drank then. And then I did end up buying two big bottles to get me through 2 days and then I got the Brita so we’re all good now 💛💛
Love that skort! Suits you
Thank you 💛💛
When did you move from Canada?
I left Canada end of 2022, then travelled for a few months. Then went back to Australia to wait out getting my US visa 🥰
if you dont like the rug, send it back!
and have your tap checked! is it only in the kitchen or in the whole apartment?
