Hell, this brought back so many REALLY fond memories. Remembering this is bitter sweet. My dad owned a house on the Free State side right on the barrage (you can see the bottom end of the development on the left hand side at 11:19 in the clip --- called Luciana Country Estate which he helped get up and running as a Shareblock development on former Agricultural Land for the Gericke Family) from the mid-1980's till Parkinson's hit him really bad, and mom was hit with Alzheimer Dementia, both in the late 2010's. I basically grew up on the Vaal, learned to drive a boat, learned to Ski, had my first "Holiday Romance", Windsurfed, rowed K1, raced K1, spent mid-week AWOL getaways from 'Varsity with mates, etc etc etc ... we even spent weekends watching F1 boat races from my dad's boat from the entrance to LochVaal in the days of Peter Lindenburg. Those F1 boats turned the corner right in front of us so close, the Rooster Tails wet us. Amazing times. That restaurant featured at 9:10 was one of our favourite hang-outs when I was a bit older and worked for my own money. Millionaire's Bend (21:05 onwards) was my favourite skiing spot as, regardless of the wind, the water was always as smooth as glass. We also ski'ed up Cloudy Creek (7:20) WAY back-when ... even better skiing than Millionaire's Bend --- however, that was no longer possible after it was changed into a sanctuary. This brought a tear to my eye remembering Mom and Dad.
Wow, this comment is so special❤️ so happy that this video could bring back so many memories, and great memories😁😁 you know the river so well and understand what you mean by millionaires bend with the wind😂 always windy there😜 hope you making new memories now, ones that you will look at when you older and have similar memories to the river😁❤️🫶
Welcome back guys! Can sooo relate to feeling the most alive when on or in the water. We book almost all our vacations based on water accessibility. The personal story about the family history and the ties to the river are a nice touch 😊 Looking forward to the upcoming year's adventures! Cheers from Alberta 🇨🇦!
Thanks so much Bryan😁 feels good to be back and making videos again😁 there is just something about water😜 we also just chase water on our travels, its the best😜😁😁 Excited to show you this years adventure, go a be a good one😁
This channel and clip was a random suggestion in my UA-cam algorithm, turns out it is such a small world! 21:13, spent 20 years in that house!!! You can’t even begin to imagine the most Amazing memories we have from that house, feeling a bit teary ❤😢 For years we watched the Old Willow Boats go by, I’m soo glad you got to experience it and share it with an enormous following on UA-cam
Ahhhh no really❤️ must of had an amazing time in the house and memories that you will always cherish❤️ glad we got to take you back to a little place that you use to call home❤️we love the river and its always such a special place for us😁😁😁
@@thebuddymoonyeah it’s an awesome gem 💎 If this was Circa 2016 you could’ve docked at our jetty, would’ve only cost you a few sneaky tequilas, more beers than you can shake a stick at and a “moer” of a hangover but well worth it 🤕🤣 We’ve semi-grated to the Western Cape, like every other South African but the Vaal will always have a special place in our hearts 💕
My son and I spent 3 nights on a house boat in December 2023. One of our annual outings. We had a great time. The weather was great. The service provided by Old Willow staff was excellent.
Hi Guys.. I lived in VanderBijlPark for 5 years in the 80's.. oOur favourite weekend spots were the Riviera Hotel Pool area and the camping spots on the river.. I was there for the F1 boat race when one of the boats left the river and narrowly missed hitting a concrete braai in the picnic area.. Some great times were had ..😊
Beautiful video, that remember me of my childhood in South Africa . In 1970 my father and our family immigrated from France to South Africa. We lived in Vanderbiljpark near the Vaal river . We often went fishing on the Vaal river during the Weekends and School holiday and canoing , swimming braaivleis and stywe pap mielie boerewors met die lekker chutney . We spend the night fishing near our tent. Somedays we go on a boat trip on the River with my Friends. I realy miss those fabulous days . Greethings to all my Friends from Italy.❤
Grew up in Vaalpark, we rode our BMXs to the Vaalriver and swam through it to get to Stonehaven. A different time. So many good memories, thanks for the video!
throughly enjoyed this video, especially since I spent the weekend camping at the Vaal Marina. beautiful place, returning for the boat experience soon.
Hi Guys. I thought this was a real liveaboard channel. THAT is what interests me. I had a 23ft keelboat on the Vaal Dam. We used to sail up the Vaal and Wilge and be gone for a week or two.
@thebuddymoon it's also nice to see you spending time with your sibling. Content becomes more rich in quality when you add in, as long as family members are comfortable ❤️
Beautiful river, nice to see Jess and Enrique, here's to a great 2025 Buddymoon. I'm making you a 2025 sponsorship deal, £20 for each new Country you visit but you have to buy a local beer (no imports) Muslim countries excluded.
Fantastic video! We would like to invite you two to come visit our venue Duck Point on the Vaal River next time you are in town. We would love to hear from you! Warm Regards Duck Point Venue
Wow thanks so much for the invite😁😁 we have always looked at Duck Point and wondered what it's like😜 will definitely reach out when we back in town again😁🫶 will keep in touch on Instagram😁
Great boat trip idea, everything about sailing or boating is attractive, the best being its convenience for food and cleaning services. Sadly your descriptions of Boerewors or Milktart being S.A. Delights, never would consider a milktart as a swissroll no matter how It's taste. Recipes for both can be found on the Internet, must be a South African recipe to be precise. Forgot the Ouma Rusks are the very best 🍾🎶🇿🇦 credits to the Afrikaans creators that's afforded millions to enjoy these taste's for so many years.📣
Still to do on my bucket list. maybe someone could have more info, I own my own cabin boat although, I spoke to a friend and Boating or fish from boat at night is prohibited and it confuse me, when I did my skippers and boat COF became popular almost 20 years ago, I did special installs to have boat certified for night use.... I'm in mpumalanga, maybe a typical double standard thing from our government.......
@thebuddymoon I visited your country with my siblings 6 years ago . My sister was murdered in that lawless place. No need to smile/laugh at my question...
😂😂 mmmm vaal river, terribly exciting watching local primates. 48 hrs hey, wow, living on a boat. Now go to the chobe,Zambezi or Kariba for real spectacular.
Love these guys and their channel but my only complaint is that I ordered merchandise last year (navy cap) and it's now close to 2 months with nothing. That wouldn't be an issue as I know s#*t happens but what really bugs me is that I have sent a message to them on their merch site with absolutely no response. Super disappointed and has kinda put me off their content
Hi Courtney😁 so glad you enjoy our channel and sorry to hear about the delivery of your Cap. I have gone through our website and emails and do not seem to have received an email from you. I'm currently checking into this in order to see whats going on. Generally the issue is the South African customs😳 they like to take their time on packages received from overseas. Thank you for this video. We knew nothing about South Africa it was beautiful. The river looked like our San Joaquin River Delta in Northern CA where there is a 1,000 miles of waterways. 2 Esdras 7:75 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times. 78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways. 81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times. 88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders. 92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come; and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified. 99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations." 102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." .....2 Esdras 7:75 //////////////

99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." .....2 Esdras 7:75
