    I was taught if it was a 3-14 plow, take the full width of the first bottom and half the width of the second and add those together! That's 21 inches and then add 3 or 4 inches to that depending on tire size because you dont want the tires rubbing to hard on the furrow.

    • @FarmallFanatic
      @FarmallFanatic  2 роки тому +1

      That's true you'll get furrow wear

      Line of draft should be 25 inches on a 3-14. May have to adjust slightly depending on tires and the actual width of cut of the shares, depending on the brand of plow.

    I can't tell you what a thrill that was for me. I am 71 now and my farming days are far behind, but I grew up on a 1000 acre farm/ranch in one of the southern mountain states. I learned to drive on a JD B and was plowing fields at 8 years old. We ran a F20 farmall, a TD9 IH crawler, a WD9 IH, a Case 811B, two John Deere B's and I had a Ford 3000 when I started farming on my own. I own only Kubotas now and really miss the old tech
    Thank you for this video. I spent days on end as a kid turning furrows and even as a kid, loved every min. of it.

    I have to say great job with that little plow. The ground rolled perfectly level with the speed you were traveling. I always pulled 4 x 16 plows behind a JD 3020 that was a good outfit. We put a 5 x 16 JD plow behind a Massy Ferguson 1135 and never could get it to throw right. I was pretty young at the time and my grandfather was setting things up, so I can't answer you question. It certainly looked you had things set correctly! Jeff

    The Ol'Farmall 765 was sounding pretty good there. Looks like you're setup about right from the looks of how level the soil lays after being turned over. I haven't used a moldboard plow in years. The last time my Ol' Farmall 806 pulled the John Deere semi-mount 4 bottom x 14", I left the tractor setup at about 32" from the center of the tractor to the center of the rear tire. For just the Lil' Hay field, I wasn't going to mess with the setup. Thanks for the ride along. Happy Easter.

    You need to take the furrow wheel out 3 to 4 in. Wait to you get the first furrow then adjust for level then watch the throw of the moldboard and then adjust to you get even throw on all 3. Look really good on the those furrows. Nice and even.

    Hello Gino of all the plowing I have done I have never changed the tire position. I have 16.9 34 and other tractor is 18.4 38. I have 14" 3 and 4 furrow. Looked great from my view watching your video

  • @tyfrank3427
    @tyfrank3427 2 роки тому

    18.4-34s work fine in 14" furrows. When I was a boy, my dad had an Oliver 5-14 plow and he pulled it with an 806, and two 4-14 plows that were pulled with a WD-9 and 650 respectively. All those tractors have 18.4-34s and they ran in the furrows fine. Using standard tread tractors means you don't adjust the wheels on the tractor but the hitch on the plow. We now use a 6-16 IH trailing type plow and the hitch is set so the tractor stays out of the furrow. We either use a 1066 with 18.4-38 duals or 1206 with 24.5-32 singles, so no wheel in the furrow. That 311 plow would be nice on the 400.

    Soil is mostly sandy loam, from the moisture it is breaking fairly good 👍 if it was clay loam or heavy clay it would be throwing out big slabs cause clay type soils don't generally break as fine as yours is doing.... we tried to get all ours broke in the fall, doing it in the spring could cause late planting if followed by a period of wet weather... I always tried to run a field cultivator or disk harrow just as soon as I could behind freshly broke ground..

    When I was younger made dad and grandpa plowed all of our wheat stubble each summer after harvest. They would set the rear tire about 1 inch outside the furrow wall and then set the front tire to be up against the furrow wall. They talked about a tire condition called a "furrow break" that would cause damage to the rear tire if it contacted the furrow wall.

    Centerline of pull (tractor side) and centerline of draft (plow side) should be one in the same. Centerline of draft isn't as cut-and-dry as I originally thought. Then you want your real wheels set equally. Mounted plows don't have nearly as many adjustments as a trailer plow or semi-mount, which simplifies things, but often means compromises as well. There's a DVD out there called "A Guide to Better Plowing" that goes into detail on Centerline formulas and equations.

    More and more are planting them
    early , even before corn.
    I'm in southern Michigan , beans are thougher than we all think.

    hurt any thing either.

      I'm your age, but you have to move ahead. Farming is an expensive hobby now days. Got to make the most you can. Knew a guy who put his in around April 15 , picked up some ground late ( Memorial day)
      10 to 12 bushels difference.
      Same seed same fertilizer and same type of ground. Who wouldn't like 10

    That 756 doesn’t even labor with that 3-bottom plow. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Super C with fast hitch….. I’ve got one. But you are not going to like that disk on that Super C when you get it fixed, because the little Super C will labor pulling that disk. The Super C is a handy little maneuverable tractor, but a heavy puller she’s not.
