Have the same car as you with 200k miles, I just broke the same length as your. Would leaving it inside do any harm ?
Just happened today 2.21.24. So seeing mechanic about removing oil pan tomorrow. Some are saying leave it be and drive on. ??? Well done video!! Mine broke off just above mark showing a "high FULL." IS PLASTIC in broken piece.
Thank you! All the other videos are on the dipstick breaking near the top and not closer to the bottom. Somehow my ‘93 Ford Ranger’s metal dipstick broke in half.
Good video. The same thing happened on our 2006 Honda Odyssey Van. We haven't fixed it, because we did not know how, but maybe we will try what you did to fix yours the next time it is time to change our oil. (I just had an oil changed and a bunch of other work done a couple of days ago, so I don't want to do it now.)
Thank you for the video! I went to check my oil and thought the dipstick looked different.
That happened to me today. Oil stick at bottom broke. It's lounged in oil pan. So gonna do what you did and get 2nd oil change (had one on july 6, 2022). Good thing I carry oil with me and new oil stick and gasket for oil pan.
Same car, same thing just happened to me. As I was removing the dipstick I heard it snap off. About 1.5 inches of the end broke off inside. Replacement on its way, all metal this time.
Yep, same here, same engine. Bought all-metal Dorman #917-398. Left broken piece in pan.
How's it going after a year
what if the top part of stick broke and the whole stick is inside half way can i still open the pan and pull long stick out?
Awesome vid!!
Thank you! Do you think it’s harmful to the engine to leave the broken piece in there until the next oil change 3 to 4 months away?
Excellent!
Hello !!!! a question can something happen if I drive like what happened to you ?!
I just pulled the dipstick tube out and it was in there
Thank you 🙏
Nice to see your dad on TV. Great channel!
Aly
Thanks for watching! He has taught me everything I know
@MerchantsGarage what's your opinion on whether or not it will hurt to leave the broken piece inside the pan? Several people have ask and haven't gotten a reply back
@@LH-kz2nf unless you want to drop the PAN which is involved, I’d leave it in there. You guys are pretty diligent on your oil changes, so, if it sticks to the screen, you have fresh oil and a good filter to make sure nothing else clogs the pick up.
@ASH-mo4qg yes after reading so many comments of people leaving the piece in the pan, I am now one of them, lol. It took 3 days to get a new one. The new dip stick is all metal
great video
This just happened to me today. I go to check the oil and the end of the dip stick was missing. A little smaller than your plastic piece but at least 1.5in.
What would happen if I left it in the pan? The screen would stop it correct ?
Same thing happened to me. I'm leaving it in there the screen should catch it
@@johnsmalls4856 , 2 months or so and no issues so you should be fine John.
This just happened to me on my turbo diesel. I was told it’s fine. May even come out with an oil change. Glad you guys confirmed it. Lol. I hate these plastic tipped ones!!
@@SirGuidemere91 , I hope it works out. I’ve had 0 issues and everyone i asked said it shouldn’t be a problem. Good luck with your diesel sir
@@MM-qi5mk thank you!
This happened to me just now, I think I will drive the car like that
Hello do you drive car with this peace
I drove my car like that till it was due for servicing several weeks after. The oil filter won't let it get into the engine.
You did your oil change or you brought it some where can I drive it like that
At 2:03, he recommends using gasoline to clean out the oil pan, DO NOT use Gasoline, it is too easy to have a fire...
