I visited Savannah this year truly for the first time and fell in love... I heard the name Oglethorpe a lot, and remember it from early US history in school. Interestingly, also General Greene, the namesake of my city in NC, all in Savannah, the apex of Georgia. Georgia's got some amazing history, I really want to go back as soon as I can!

My ancestors recieved a royal land grant in 1755 for 150 acres in St.George Parish now in Screven County, Georgia. Twenty years later the Revolutionary War began. And after the Revolution one ancestor helped write the first constitution for the new state of Georgia. He sucessfully argued to the delegates that even slaves had the right to asseemble to worship God as they chose. An important right for slaves as the church would play a key role later in emancipation and the struggle for civil rights for decades.
