    Publisher for iPad is a phenomenal piece of software. It’s a giant step in making the iPad a professional tool.

    After trying again, and finally succeeding, I got a working ToC: in order to be sure to get another one, I just keep using and adapt the same file for each new project. 😅

      Hi DalsPhotography, we're working hard to upload and create new video tutorials. We have several uploaded to the UA-cam Publisher page - www.youtube.com/@AffinityPublisher

    Awesome but there is no doubt so much more to learn; setting up documents, margins, master pages, contain documents, pics and other media for each project etc, etc

    What about Master Pages as well as Sections? How is that handled, or do I have to set this manually once the chapter has been added to the book? As it overwrites the original chapter afpub, this would somehow defeat the object in case I want to reuse a "chapter" (like my products at the end of each of my books). Is there a more elegant solution?

    • @benjaminviney
      @benjaminviney Рік тому +1

      Hi Helmar_rudolph, Thanks for your comment. Master pages and sections will be maintained individually in each section or chapter. So chapter A's master pages and sections will essentially remain unchanged and only effect chapter A.
      The exception to the rule is text styles. If chapter A and Chapter B both have a text style called 'Body 1' if you then choose chapter 1 as your style source chapter it will pull all of the text styles named 'Body 1' together, any difference will be unified using chapter A's text style Body 1 as the master style.
      So it should be a simple matter if your combining several chapter together, choosing the order (so you could choose to place the chapter containing your products at the back/ last in the sequence) and then combine them together by exporting them.
      Hope this helps/ makes sense. If not feel free to jump over to the Affinity Forum, we might be able to chat more there.

    What if my book is all in one Microsoft Word file, using section breaks to change to a new chapter?

    • @benjaminviney
      @benjaminviney 3 місяці тому

      Hi @williamwallace9826. If you book is all in one word document you won't need to use the books feature. The Books feature is only there when you need to combine multiple documents that have been created separately together. Instead simply save the Word document as a .docx file and use the 'Place' function to place it inside a text frame. You can then use the Auto Flow function. Hold shift and single click the red triangle icon along the text frames edge and it will automatically flow the text into new frames and pages. There's a video on the Publisher channel if you get stuck.
      Hope this helps.

    Why is this feature not available on the ipad app? Is it a memory constraint for older devices? It can’t be a processor issue. Super disappointing because I was mainly interested in publisher for ipad, to create long form content. Seems like this can and should be added in a nearby update. If luma fusion can run on iPads, I’m guessing they can probably handle books.

    How to make an ebook with illustrations to upload to a platform for distribution, do you have a tutorial?

    • @benjaminviney
      @benjaminviney Рік тому

      Hi Ryco, Thank you for your comment.
      We don't have a specific tutorial for ebook export at the moment but we may be able to pull one together. Can I ask a few questions to further understand what you are tying to achieve.
      Are you exporting a book with illustrations to a specific pinter/ platform?
      The illustrations, do they need to be anchored specifically in place?
      What colour space are you using, most document designed for print would be CMYK but will the book ever be printed or will it be digital only and therefore RGB?

    • @rycoryco2888
      @rycoryco2888 Рік тому

      Thanks for your interest. Color space is RGB / illustrations made in Affinity Designer. There is no export epub with that software. Research suggestion from a will known children’s book writer is to use Pages software as it offers epub file. That file then going to a platform such as drafts digital. How to ensure consistency with all this movement of files? Much appreciate your contribution to this subject. Ps my apology for the delay in reply.

      @@benjaminviney I am also interested in this topic. It seems to be that you have very affordable professional level design tool which excites me, too. Right now, I am more interested about exporting hassle free to EPUB rather then PDF after a beautiful design. Are your tools able to do that?

      Hi @HomeopatiÖğreniyorum Thank you for your question. So currently as of this moment/ the time I am writing this message Publisher unfortunately doesn't support/ have an option to export files as EPUB.
      However this is a very common feature request and I would recommend keeping an eye out for the next Beta release.
      Hope this helps.

    That's not a book, that's a report. I've been searching through Serif tutorials for hours now, looking for how to create an actual book - you know, like a novel - to no avail. I have Version 1, but the UA-cam tutorial list is not the same as what was once originally posted on the Serif website, and not as intuitive with descriptions.
    I'm getting the clear impression that Publisher is for magazines, brochures, reports, etc., and that Serif is just not that interested in providing the same level of detailed information for authors of fiction and nonfiction. There are tutorials on UA-cam by individuals, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack when you want specific information.

      Hi 12thDecember, I'm sorry you've not found the content you were looking for but let me reassure you the books feature does work with novels as well. I've used it recently in one of my personal projects which is an illustrated version of Bram Stokers - Dracula.
      We have some content coming out later this year which specifically relates to creating books and novels.
      Thanks for your feedback.

      @12th December, you are correct. I bought Affinity Publisher 1.0 in the mistaken belief that it would be an improved update over the old Serif PagePlus program. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Affinity Publisher is lacking a number of features needed to make it suitable for doing book-length projects.

  • @williamwallace9826

    But this demonstration is NOT a book. It's a short report.

    • @benjaminviney
      @benjaminviney 3 місяці тому

      Hi @williamwallace9826, I've had this comment a lot. In this case the 'Books' panel or feature refers to an old feature with the same name. The feature is designed to combine multiple documents together and believe it or not the features name has been around since the early 90's. But I understand how it can be confusing. It seems to be a name that's remained in use in the Affinity Apps and other professional design software as well.
      Maybe we need to rename it? Any suggestions? Feel free to pop over to the Affinity Forum and start a new thread with your feedback.

  • @quentinharlech
    @quentinharlech 3 місяці тому

    That's fairly useless. In principle, a great feature, but how am I supposed to split my 110k word file into those chapters? By hand? This is a bit clumsy to use. Calling it the 'Books' feature is a bit audacious. Especially since all the standard book templates are completely missing in Affinity.

    • @benjaminviney
      @benjaminviney 3 місяці тому

      Hi @quentinharlech, Sorry you seem so dissatisfied with this feature. Many see to find the ability to combine lots of different Affinity files together useful but perhaps this isn't quite the feature you're looking for? Were you looking for something that allowed you to create sections or chapters? You may find the Section manager more useful for this task.
      Or even just to be able to import your word document into Publisher? This can be done by using the place method or the auto flow method which there is a video about on the Affinity Publisher page. In the video I use the Alice and Wonderland book as an example. Bring the .docx file into publisher and auto flow it into my document. It's only 80+ pages though but hopefully it may help.
      If that's still not the case we always welcome feedback. Please feel free to jump over to the Affinity Forum and leave your feedback there.

    So yet another thing not available on iPad version?? Great. Need to really come out with a full iPad Tutorials version for Publisher since you did just release it and all. Otherwise, Publisher is just a complicated, glorified version of Pages.
