THANK YOU! I searched the whol web in German and english and nobody seems to explain this particular step. which is very important IMO. Thank you! Short and simple, love it
This was incredibly helpful. I am an analog zine maker, formatting with physical pages and cutting and pasting. I had a more complicated project in mind, so I bought publisher and needed a tutorial like this. Thank you!!!!
Great video but you left out the final step... printing! If you are printing on a home printer that only prints on one side of the paper then you need to change a couple settings in the Print dialog box. Under "Range and Scale" set the "Range" to "Odd pages" and set "Paper Handling" to "Odd Only". After printing all the "Odd" pages, flip the page stack over and put them back in the printer. Now change the print settings to "Even pages". Remember you need to make this change in two places, under "Range and Scale" and under "Print Handling". Now hit print and the printer will print the other side of the pages.
I left that out a bit on purpose because print dialogs are vastly different, between operating systems, and even certain printer dialog boxes. But yes, you are correct.
Dave, many thanks! You just cleared up my major question about how the print shop knows how to print my booklet with the right pages on the correct sheet of paper for binding! Awesome!
This is a video i've been looking for Thank so much sir I hope Affinity can add a function where fonts can be converted to curves at the Print booklet dialogue.
Glad you enjoyed it. You can convert fonts to curves when exporting as PDF. When you’re in the export dialog box, look for the MORE button at the bottom. Scroll through the settings and there will be settings for typography, one of which being convert to curves.
Dave, can you please do a video on how to mount an A5 size Desktop Calendar on A4 size with a correct pagination? For instance, i have a 12 page A5 size Landscape, from January to December and a 1 cover/Front page. I don't know how to do the pagination for print.
Not sure I’ll be able to get to a video in a timely fashion ( I have a bunch already prepared). You’re welcome to message me via email: dc [at] daveconrey [dot] com. Just make sure to give me plenty of detail, and if you have a affPub file, send that too, zipped.
Terry Brisley technically it should, but I would do a test print first to make sure, and be flexible with slight shifting of the image, especially on the earlier or late pages in the publication.
Thanks Dave. I'm still having issues... While this all seems to work for printing a booklet 29 pages or less... it seems to not want to work for books/zines with 50 pages... The first page to be printed, after following these instructions wants to put the front cover (page 1) and page 4 together, side by side. What's happening??!
Hi Dave, Love your videos. I am a VERY GREEN Affinity practitioner. I'm an amateur and I have a stupid question...if I created a small children's picture book for my granddaughter and do not posses a quality printer, do you have any recommendation for possible printing resources for my little project? Thanks Mark
Hi Dave, thanks for your very helpful videos. I'm having trouble setting up a simple style pallete for my magazine. (I've been using Indesign for years but thought I'd try using Affinity publisher because on my brand new imac, Indesign is so incredibly slow, although I have a very fast broadband speed.) Could you do a short video on how to set up a style pallet please? HELP!
Yeah I had a similar problem to Paul. Perhaps I need to put page numbers on to simplify the process!! I just like to make little home made booklets and journals - and as a designer from many years back, I am a perfectionist! Affinity is also a super 'simple' way of doing things - ex adobe user!
You could also put page numbers on for the design process, and once you have it perfected, remove the page numbers from the master, if you don’t want them visible.
How do you move the #? you did things here a complete beginner doesn't understand. I cant see the 'document setup, spread setup, presences' thing.. Well I get to the print option and all my settings are different to this version and nothing works
So the # isn’t really a #, but a symbol designed for inserting a page number onto the page. I placed it into a master page, and moved it around within the master page, but it won’t be readily available to move on one of the regular pages ( I have a new video for that too). I wish I could help further, but it’s tough without seeing what you’re seeing
Hi. Thanks for posting this. It's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm a complete newbie so could you please confirm the initial document set up from the start. Do I need to create a document in a4 landscape (so it will be folded into an a5?). Thanks
If you are printing from your own printer, then yes. That’s what you do. If you are sending to a print shop, then design in A5 and they will manage the pagination for you.
@@DaveConrey Thanks Dave. Getting there slowly. I'm using my own printer epson 205. When I create the document the text is coming out in the wrong orientation. This is all trial and error for me. Always end up doing all the wrong things first!
@@DaveConrey Hi Dave. Sorry for being a pain but every time I create a document it ends up in portrait. The page numbers appear but not in landscape mode so it appears as a long thin document rather than a wide document if that makes any sense.
Depends on the complexity of printer. If it has the ability to print double-sided, then you should be good, but if not, I recommend feeding single sheets at a time and flipping.
I appreciate this video but have a tiny issue as I have started using Publisher today with 1.8.5.3 and the print menu doesn't have a save to pdf option, any idea how I can do that with the current UI?
I don't know if you experienced this, but after following your steps, my pagination for an eight-page booklet was somehow [1/blank], [blank/2], [3/8], [7/4], [5/6] for a total of five images. It's not only wrong, but super frustrating and confusing.
Hmm, without seeing the file, it’s hard to dissect. You could email me a zipped version of the file and I can take a look. My email is my user name @gmail.com.
Holy Sh*t! Booklet was the answer I've been looking for! Thanks :)
Glad I could help!

Hi Dave awesome quick and easy tutorial. If you had a picture that went across the spread would this till work?
Terry Brisley technically it should, but I would do a test print first to make sure, and be flexible with slight shifting of the image, especially on the earlier or late pages in the publication.
Will Affinity Pub. support imposition for a mini book, that is, 4 pages per sheet of paper, instead of 2? Thank you!
late reply, but thanks for watching.

I think I could manage a video talking about that.
Just a heads up, Ian. I made a new video today answering your question.

But now i need a stapler 😂
happy to help.
Dave Do you need to turn the pile of pages over and print to get the pages on the back?

how do you get it to not print the back side upside down?
Without knowing your situation, I'm guessing it's how you're putting the paper in the tray on the 2nd pass.
I appreciate this video but have a tiny issue as I have started using Publisher today with 1.8.5.3 and the print menu doesn't have a save to pdf option, any idea how I can do that with the current UI?
That is unusual, because I have that in my options. You won’t find it in the “save as“ options. It’s only underneath the “export“ option.
Great. Thanks

how about ipad version of Affinity designer?
Honestly, I wouldn’t build a zine in Designer.
@@DaveConrey my bad, I thought Publisher, not Designer. Publisher just came out for an iPad.

glutton for punishment, I suppose.
