    If the world is catching up, or quite literally caught up as we saw when Serbia had our backs against the wall and before these olympics, several people called this version of USA as the best US olympic team in history, at least on paper, we are barely keeping top dog status. Durant specifically said, But Next Olympics, Curry and Durant might still be there, but uhhh not sure,
    LeBron might be retired…**look he should be I don’t know,** man’s the best player on the the team right now. And that’s amazing, but also a problem.
    Several players agreed to play this Olympics heavily off of the fact that other higher profile players were playing. LeBron was recruiting a year ago, LeGM and Noah Lyles.
    And we fell in this cycle before. In 1988, we got a bronze medal in basketball, the lowest finish in our history, and then we said nahhh we ain’t going out like this and sent NBA players, the dream team. But then we got complacent. After a 6th place medal in 2002, in 2003 they won the America cup but in 2004, only 3 athletes returned and as a result, we saw LeBron, Wade, Melo all get called up when they were not ready.
    But perhaps more importantly than that, Team USA needs to take the world seriously. *Basketball isn’t just America’s sport anymore and we should treat it as such, just as we tried to this year. But there’s a better way of going about it.* The best players in the NBA under 30 are international players. Now you have players like Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Booker, and Bam that still can be in their prime in time for next Olympics. We need to play together in FIBA, introduce glue pieces, hone in chemistry. Instead of antagonizing Tatum, we’re going to need him. We need to motivate them to continue, otherwise we’re getting recked.
    But I’m excited to see where the world will be in 4 years.

      Why would we want to watch them play together? Lebron diminishes everyone around him by being bagless and unable to play within a system; Curry was relegated to a role player at first and only got the chance to show what he's capable of in the last two games, when the going got tough and the fake ones shrunk.

    • @JacobMiller-ke6yf
      @JacobMiller-ke6yf Місяць тому +6

      @sakdavid I thought they played great together. Lebron averaged 8.5 assists over the Olympics. When you have 5 of the greatest players in the leauge on the floor at all times, not everyone can have 20 points everygame. But I feel like most everyone had big moments and played key rules. Just curious, Who would you say shrunk in the big moments?

      Sorry to say this but none of these guys have all time great potential, which is the kind of talent you need to win the Olympics. International players would be dominating the NBA from this point forward because the world focuses on teaching young prospects fundamentals and team play, while young Americans are concerned about looking good on highlight reels.
      Steph, Bron, and KD would be the last American all time greats you will see in a long while. Unless Cooper Flagg pans out.

    Idk where they go, the fact that LeBron did indeed have to do a lot of heavy lifting for someone his age means that the other players just aren’t there.
    Yes most of team USA did well, but they looked towards the vets really to do most of the heavy lifting, curry, KD and LeBron. It doesn’t seem like anyone American can have that type of role yet. There’s many talented players, but if you think that they should now think that Ja, Zion and some other players will be able to perform like that is crazy. There’s levels to the game, there’s barely any comparable players to LeBron, curry and KD, even in 4 years. I don’t see Tatum being able to do what LeBron is doing, I don’t see ant actually doing much even though physically it seems like he’s doing really well.

    Gold is 100% deserved. But let's also not forget geography was also a big factor and favorable to the US. If the situation was reversed, it would be the equivalent of EU or entire Europe going against the best players of multiple individual US states. Does not apply to Canada and Australia though. Not taking away anything from US, but this argument makes sense if you think about it.

      @@kitothekito915exactly. I was only speculating when I argued for the avengers team. But after watching their games (despite some players struggling every game) I can totally confirm that this is the most talented team after comparing it to the 1992 dream team. Just look at the shots the international opponents were making. Like, I kid you not. With the amount of talent from beyond the perimeter and near unstoppable people under the hoop like LeBron, the defense is bound to be stretched thin. Defense don’t suck today - it’s the offense that’s gotten so good that it’s impossible to defend. With Steph curry, the whole playing field ranges from way beyond the arc, deeep deep threes. You can even see in these Olympics how deep the threes were that were made from curry’s shots. If they guard too closely to the shooting guards, the person either drives past them with their athleticism or the ball slips past the defender from a quick pass with way less defense on the inside. If they guard the inside like the old days of the Dream team, they get strong inner defense, but they’re 100% unable to stop curry’s 3s. Shaq can’t defend these threes with his athleticism and can’t shoot free throws for his life when fouled. This is simply the strongest team ever assembled man. If we’re talking whether at their prime, it’s a different story, but keep in mind this team isn’t at their prime as well.

    • @JonSmith-hk1bq
      @JonSmith-hk1bq 29 днів тому +2

      Name me the team that the 92 squad faced that were dropping shots like Seribia was those first three quarters.
      Many international teams are capable of an upset if they get hot enough. If they play their defense, move the ball around, and drill their shots, then all it takes is a mediocre shooting night on the part of Team USA to keep the other team in the game. It doesn't even have to be a poor shooting night.

    It’s because we pick the wrong players. People don’t understand we choose the best players but not necessarily the best team. NBA rules are different and favor offense. FIBA is more defensive so you need a lot more role players. We have too many offensive stars but not that many role players. These other teams have guys who don’t care to take that role. Like you have to have guys who fight for rebounds or a defensive player who puts all his energy on defense to lock down the best player, or a dude unselfish and sets a ton of screens and fights for loose balls. Yes you need offensive players but it does us no good putting in like 4 offensive stars and having 1 role player like holiday in. If we actually built the best team we get college basketball coaches because they are better at coaching team basketball because college basketball resembles FIBA rules the best so they actually have to run plays and not rely on iso ball all the time like in the nba where it favors offense. If we were smart we take more role players or stars willing to take a role so we just don’t have a bunch of offensive talent and rely on that to carry us because the world is catching up

    Gotta give it to KD. Despite all the injuries and the criticisms he had, he never backed out of playing for the country.
    McCollum is funny about the reason he withdrew. Maybe he considered himself a weak player. This is the reason why he never won anything or be at least an all-star in his professional career and now, he is just a role player. He never took the next step.
    No one in current young generation of American players have taken the torch from LeBron, Steph, or KD. Maybe Ant-Man have potential, but he needs to win something to be considered. No one else have the command and leadership that LeBron resonates. So if they send their team in 2028, who will be the guy who will lead them? We will see in the next 3 years who will rise up after the 3 OGs retire.
    As of now, it's Jokic who's the best out there and have been giving them problems. Giannis, his Greek team is not really that great. Luka, well his Slovenian team also is not that great. But he might win in the NBA someday. Wemby is on his way and will only improve going forward barring ang injuries. Damn, the most recognizable upcoming stars are non-American.
    Kyrie, Dame, AD are of the same age as Curry or older by 2028. The American roster is really under-sized. The top American centers now are Embiid, Bam, Turner, Claxton, Allen, Holmgren. Embiid is questionable in 2028. So that leaves the other 5, but between them only Bam and Jarett Allen were the only all-stars. AD thinks he might come back again, but that depends on his legs and health by that time.
    At the PF, there's Banchero, Zion, Aaron Gordon, JJJ, Keegan Murray.
    At the SF, Tatum is nice, but he's not in the same stratosphere as the 3 OGs. He's on his way though. He just needs to be more assertive and impose his will. Scottie Barnes and...oh, most wing players are already too old or retired by that time. lol KD still considers coming back and he'll be 39 by that time.
    At the SG, Ant-Man, DBook, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell
    At the PG, Brunson, Fox, Maxey, Tyrese, Morant, Dejounte, Trae, Cade
