Good question! I realized afterwards that the video angle didn't really show what I was doing. But you are correct, I overlapped it a bit so that half of the tape covered the edge of the white board material, and half attached to the table edge. My table edges are curved so it seemed to be the best solution.
It’s held up great! It’s a high use area and the only wear is a bit of the electrical tape lifted, but it was any easy fix. I’m actually ordering more to cover more surfaces!

Now, instead of kids needing a whiteboard to bring to the table they can just bring themselves because the table IS the whiteboard.
