I was surprised you hot cut the hole instead of punching it, but then again we don't all have arms like you, John. 🤣 Thanks for participating! Congrats on the sponsorship, that's awesome!
Yeah I would have had to make a special slot punch for such a wide hole and I figured by the time I was done with that I could have just cut it haha. Thanks for including me man!
I really like that you talk about the mistakes you make. It makes for a more informative video that teaches what to avoid. The axe turned out real nice!
"I'm a millennial and my feelings are more important than reality" - that made me lol! This is the best chopper video I've seen thus far! I've got a couple more to watch but I love the axe and I think my vote goes your way John!
That drift you made is awesome and would be a great addition to your Etsy store, you can’t buy that kind of drift anywhere as Holland Anvil makes H13 Drifts for Single Bit Hatchets and Axes but not not Double Bit so I would think you could probably sell them
I just want to say one thing this man not only made an ax that any redneck worth his salt would want to have and our own but look at all that dwarvish bling he has on it not trying to talk straight out of the bowels of moria gimbli approved
I love the way you talk to yourself while forging. Please don't even try to stop. Be yourself and don't be self conscious about your process. Nothing but respect, love your videos!
Im glad to see i'm not the only person who does the poor mans anneal. Great video brother. For your 1st double bit axe, you did great. Also, yes, your feelings are more important than anything else. So let's hope the judges put that into consideration. Great work man.
Congrats on your Sponsor!!! Great looking axe and don’t worry about mumbling when you forge…we didn’t notice til you mentioned it 🤪 Good luck in the competition!!!
You got my vote, it’s actually a chopper and not a call of duty video game sword knife. Love the esthetic of a real world tool. Awesome work as always.
Great stuff, John. I could never tire of watching you at your craft, I feel like I'm right there at the shop sharing a cold one and learning all about smithing. Thank you for taking us along on this ride with you, it's truly fantastic stuff.
Just come across your video thought it was SO FUNNY WHEN YOU HAD THE AXE UNDER THE PRESS COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING AT THE FACES YOU WAS MAKING YOU LOOKED LIKE JUST CAME OUT OF A MENTAL INSTITUTION SO FUNNY. BUT YOU DID A VERY GOOD JOB ON THE AXE EVEN IF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH IT'S A BEAST 😮😊
That's awesome! Love that you used chainsaw chains for a wood chopping axe 😂 Thanks for showing all the things that didn't go according to plan, very helpful.
11:00 Thank you! I've only made a few axe heads and I didn't know why those Vs where happening. I feel like I gained a bit of understanding. Your axe turned out great and congrats on getting a new sponsor! Fun video.
I love your way of doing stuff, its like encouraging me to do stuff. Most of the time you are showing stuff and saying well make it and its not gonna be perfect but "im just a human", hella strong human :D
I have a huge coil spring out of a railroad engine suspension I would like to make hammers, axe's, tools, etc. out of. My biggest worry is the handle line up. Your's ended up spot on, very well done 👍❤️
You are amazing. Thank you for letting me watch you work. Some day I will try to make an ax from the wornout chains I saved from 30 years of heating with wood. 😊 The wornout bars should be good too.
Beautiful pattern. 3 things. Since you do not have a handle on the canister, why don't you do an end on end press during the initial welding heats to help solidify the ends? You should save the flawed pieces and start making wootz from them. This would make a beautiful Nessmuk style axe. Keep up the fantastic work.
Have you considered colabing with Lumber Capital Log Yard? The have lots of used metal belts and chains. Besides they cut their own hickory handle blanks.
Brother you cracked me up when you made fun about talking to yourself while forging. 😂😂😂
I was surprised you hot cut the hole instead of punching it, but then again we don't all have arms like you, John. 🤣 Thanks for participating! Congrats on the sponsorship, that's awesome!

I’d have been talking to myself too but I’d have been saying “don’t screw it up,don’t screw it up,don’t screw it up!” 😁
I’m glad that I’m not the only person who talks to myself when “in the zone”
That drift you made is awesome and would be a great addition to your Etsy store, you can’t buy that kind of drift anywhere as Holland Anvil makes H13 Drifts for Single Bit Hatchets and Axes but not not Double Bit so I would think you could probably sell them

"My feelings are more important than reality" 😂
It always cracks me up how modest you are about your work. You make awesome stuff dude.
Freakin sick bro. I love how you can just go out to a creek in the woods for your cutting tests.
The chainsaw canister damascus to make a axe head had me laughing. The irony 🤣
Definitely one fine axe! Always remember never use a chainsaw Forge the chain into an axe! Be a man!!!😂💪🏻
Now that's a tomahawk ^^ Finally somebody knows it :D
I love the way you talk to yourself while forging. Please don't even try to stop. Be yourself and don't be self conscious about your process. Nothing but respect, love your videos!
Dude that pattern is awesome! I need to make an axe one day. Cheers sir

6:55🤣 😂 I talk to myself all the time too, but it's bad when you are arguing and losing
You made a tree feller out of part of a tree feller, but if you had used motorcycle chain it would have been a chopper from part of a chopper.
I love you channel man. One of the first channels I started watching when delving into smithing! and still one of my favorites
Congratulations on your first sponsor. You deserve it for all your hard work.
Congrats on your Sponsor!!! Great looking axe and don’t worry about mumbling when you forge…we didn’t notice til you mentioned it 🤪 Good luck in the competition!!!
Love the axe also like that your straight forward when you forge and speak your mind.
You got my vote, it’s actually a chopper and not a call of duty video game sword knife. Love the esthetic of a real world tool. Awesome work as always.
I love you talk to yourself while forging ;)

Contracts on your first sponsor, cool and usable axe too. Good work.,👍👍
Nice axe, wish I had my 3D glasses while watching the test chopping!
I love this axe. Especially since I run a sawmill and chainsaw every day. I've only forged a hammer but someday I'd love to forge a double bit axe.
6:54 absolutely the face of a mad genius
I love it. even with the spider web looking cracks i think it gave it more charctor
What a great looking axe! I really like how you break everything down. Thanks again John!
That's awesome! Love that you used chainsaw chains for a wood chopping axe 😂 Thanks for showing all the things that didn't go according to plan, very helpful.
Nice. I think Lincoln would approve!
11:00 Thank you! I've only made a few axe heads and I didn't know why those Vs where happening. I feel like I gained a bit of understanding. Your axe turned out great and congrats on getting a new sponsor! Fun video.
Sweet! Nice deep cuts on that tree.
Beautiful.
John that is a great job!!! I also love how modest you are.
I love your way of doing stuff, its like encouraging me to do stuff. Most of the time you are showing stuff and saying well make it and its not gonna be perfect but "im just a human", hella strong human :D
Congratulations on your first sponsor!
Flaws and all that turned out amazing.
Great to see a double headed axe as there are not sold anymore 😢 great work 😊👍
Another great blacksmithing John on UA-cam. Subscribed!
Very cool build! Especially with you being so close to The Cradle of Forestry! Beautiful ax!
you should make and sell axes.
Looks like a Batman symbol.
I have a huge coil spring out of a railroad engine suspension I would like to make hammers, axe's, tools, etc. out of. My biggest worry is the handle line up. Your's ended up spot on, very well done 👍❤️
I was wondering what is a purpose of double axe- it's cool you explained it:). This pattern and overall style is great! Great job John!
Thats a beautiful axe. I should have gotten a drift for mine but i wasnt sure what i was doing so injust winged it
Cool power hammer design.
Another reason for a double bit axe is sharpening, the blade dulls with use.Two blades means more work before you need to sharpen.
Great Job, nice and clean!
Excellent axe! A light axe with good geometry can do some serious work. And congrats on your relevant and down to earth sponsor!
This is absolutely beautiful. Love this build! 😍
It looks super and well built.
Congratulations on your work.
Greetings!
The ax is a beast like you, great job
Great project, mean swing.
Congratulations Bruce 👍
I think it came out really cool.
You are amazing. Thank you for letting me watch you work. Some day I will try to make an ax from the wornout chains I saved from 30 years of heating with wood. 😊
The wornout bars should be good too.
Forge On. God Bless.
Cool challenge nice job and congrats on the sponsor
Nice need a tool, make a tool vid along with the forge an axe vid. Good looking axe. Nice job.
Cool axe my guy, ive actually seen that redwood video before, the old history is neato.
Really nice. It'll cut a coming and a going!
It came out very nice I enjoy your videos, keep plugging.
With how easily it bit into that tree, I thought you'd end up taking it down before the video was over.
Nice balance bro
Hope ya win, as I have an ole double I use to but her white tails with
Great job! Hopefully I can win one of these one day!
Very nicely done, good sir.!.!.!
That is a dang cool axe!
That’s awesome !!! Excellent job !!!
It’s not a sacrificial edge. One is done at angles for felling and one is sharpened in the angles of chopping
that’s a beautiful axe
You are EPIC. Just found your channel. I would love to learn how to forge.
Great job John!!!
Very impressive. Eye like it.
Awesome pattern!
You're a great teacher! Very enjoyable.
Good job John! Awesome video!
Awesome build and it looks sturdy. Would love to try a build like this in the future.
Beautiful pattern.
3 things.

Way to step outside the box John outstanding video love the idea of the axe as your entry 👊👏✌️
Have you considered colabing with Lumber Capital Log Yard? The have lots of used metal belts and chains. Besides they cut their own hickory handle blanks.
Great work John! Been watching your channel for some time now. That is one damn fine looking axe!
Beautiful axe! Really enjoy your channel!
That double bit turned out very sweet! Loved the video! Subscribed
Very nice work sir!
Nothin to it really….just a giant brute of a man beating a hole through solid metal 🤣
You got my vote.😁
Very cool project.
I like this, good work!
Im off to forge my own axe head tomorrow .
Awesome axe! Well done, especially for your first double head axe.
