Went out with the dog. The river is very low. Sand bars are all over the place. That is why the canoe is the better choice . At the end of the video, I hit a log under water.
I actually SAW the spot before you hit it! This is why I spent a year installing a jetski motor in my flat modV. Where im from, our rivers are so fast and steap that you either need a jet or you can only float them. Learning to read the water is the key, even with jets you still have to see what to avoid, cool video!
@YFAwithTodd thanks. The canoe is unbreakable. But it will flip. If I wouldn't have been looking in the camera, I would have seen it. If you watch the video, you will see the "V" in the water.
@@chuckjones2368 Oh yes I know. Before I take the big boat out. I take the canoe out to find where the channel has moved to. The sand always finds a new route every year. In the summer, our river channel is only about 3 feet deep. And about 10 foot wide. So you have to know the river.
I guess you didn't notice the current seam caused by the obstruction.. lesson learned. As you get used to rivers that is a tell tale sign.. very similar to a wingdamn
I was looking at the camera at the time. I do know the signs of obstructions under the water. Our river is mostly 4 to 6 foot deep. You learn how to read a river very fast around here. But when I looked at the video. I saw the "V" of the water current around the log.
I never had any damage. I was only going about 8MPH. That is why I like the canoe. Never hurt the motor or anything before. The big boat, going 40MPH does cause damage.
@@Ralphcanoeingadventures man I have a canoe with a 2 hp evinrude from the 70s on the back and that thing will idle along at like 300 rpm (just checked with a metronome lol) and because of my use in creeks, it’s awesome to be able to just have a little bit of thrust but so slow you could hit bottom and you’d barely notice
@@andys4971 I know. I love just going slow and looking at things. You feel you are closer to nature in a canoe. I can idle along at about 2MPH. And the motor is so quiet. I love the 4 stroke on the canoe. You sould like you like to canoe like I do. Exploring the back waters and creeks. Trouble is. Around here, I have seen everything! I had a 2HP Johnson from 1977. I exchannged it for a 5HP Merc. A couple years ago. Nice to have the power. But can still travel around slowly. I can idle it around all day without loading up. Good improvement.
@joricopittman1279 I was in the channel. If I would have been more out in the middle. I would have been on a large sand bar. In about 6 inches of water. I know this river and where the sand bars are. But logs move all the time.

I would have seen it also. But I was looking at the camera at the time. I did see the "V" in the water, when I looked at the video at home.
Just have to be safe out there on the water, never know what's partially submerged. Glad you posted this as a reminder.

Technically, you hit a log that was under water. You were not under water.
That's a good one 👍. I stand corrected.🙂
Water dog for ballast!
I was with dad the time he did that , only thing missing was the words dad said... lol ,, the sons of a stump ... lol .. great video ..
It happens! The good thing about the canoe. You aren't going fast enough to hurt anything.
be safe especially river fishing every thing changes year to year,

Good video! I've subscribed to your channel
Thank you. I just put things on here to help people deciding on canoes and motors. I just like to get out on the water. Stay safe out there.

I have been running rivers for over 55 years. I know what logs, rocks, wing dams look like.
Been there done that.. clean the propeller and drive om

It was a log. Didn't have to clean anything. Maybe my shorts. ;-)

Maybe if you don't ride more out in the middle u wouldn't have hit it
