I'm a dev myself, and I've realized you don't have to care or even attempt to make something new. Just copy and paste someone else's idea + add like 15% of your own stuff in there and you can make billions. Sad, but true. 99% of consumers have zero brains.

I don't understand the avid defence this game gets, it's not that deep.
It has nothing to do with the quality of the game it has to do with spite of bad recent releases of Pokemon games while ignoring the accomplishments of the Pokémon main series beyond the switch.

I agree, I hope this game dies soon. My friends all got me hooked up on Zomboid, started a server. The minute Palworld got released, my friend closed down the server to open up a server on palworld. They all want me to play Palworld but it just doesn't look appealing and the videos I see, the game just doesn't appeal to me. Fucking BS.

@Zapmannn Played with 6 friends and on a public server, why would playing with more people make it more fun? All it did was make the game worse because everyone had to build a bunch of the same stuff because of the tutorial.
But you're wrong running around an empty world with cookie cutter dungeons with nothing to do with friends actually makes it even more pathetic since all we did was run around doing nothing basically playing it like a single player game who all shared bases since PvP or anything doesn't exist. I absolutely hate the art style. The environment does not match the characters and the survival aspects just feel added only because it is a trending genre. This would be considered a kickstarter scam a few years ago, but because the game industry is in such a drought and so many people are using weed, it seems good. Humanity is evolving backwards

Palworld came out of nowhere and I first saw it in online forums and meme sites. Then since a week it has been absolutely spammed everything online.
First I only saw some pictures and thought, yeah a pokemon ripoff with guns. It felt like most people obsessed over it because they were dissapointed about pokemons current state and palworld somehow was a fresh and modern take to it. Many liked the idea of the creators to just simply make a game that is fun to play first and everything else second.
And then I actually looked up the game and... oh boy
This was utterly infuriating. When I actually got behind the illustrations and cover art and actually saw the gameplay it was immediatly clear to me that this is not a great game.
It looked like any indie (survival) game that is quickly assembled by one guy and then hyped up for twitch streamers to have a good laugh with the community. The art doesnt match at all.
Its a realistic modern unreal engine world but with simple cartoon characters in it. The world is generic and without any detail. No thought, care or love was put into the visuals or the world building and it shows. And then the actual gameplay mechanics. I don't know how other people see that, but this game has little to do with "pokemon". Yeah I guess there are "cute animals" running around in the world that can fight with magical attacks but most of the time it is about survival tactics, building and crafting stuff, gathering ressources. This has nothing to do with pokemon. At that point "persona" is more of a pokemon game than palworld.
And every game mechanic was stolen and copied from existing games. It looks and feels like hundreds of other indie survival games.
The abbilities, mechanics and "lore" make no sense. Why do you use pals to fight if you can just take a gun?
So summarized it is a game with bad audio non matching visuals that are just plain and simple unreal engine graphics mixed with ripped of character models and designs and straight up copied game mechanics without any thought or deeper care for the world. And beyond that there is just lack of reason and a goal. There is no great story to experience, no skill to master.
Its just a numbers simulator where you are in an infinite spiral to level up shit just for the sake of leveling shit up.
All in all nothing for me but I would normally not have a problem with such a game especially if people jave fun with it. Heck people should play what they like.
But in this case its different because of the hype int generated. The critique scene in gaming has become really toxic. Online is a trend of either absolutely trashing or glorifying a game.
I've just gotten back to gaming recently and for the first time in many years I bought a load of new games.
One of those was Starfield. I really enjoyed it and while I saw some problems I was overall satisfied with the game especially since I always expected a "Bethesda" game.
Then the review bombing and online hate began. And after I played other "new" games like rdr2 or baldurs gate 3 I understood the dissapointment and I could see why people expected more and weren't pleased with how the game turned out. Then palworld hit and with that the hypocrisy. I especially saw many times how palworld was directly compared to starfield as a "positive" especially one post comparing the two projects budgets and making fun of starfield how palworld was able to do so much more so much better with less money.
That's the point were I was finally convinced that those people don't care about the games quality at all. Hate on Starfield all you want, you don't have to like it but you can obejtively tell were Starfield just completely outruns palworld (which it should given starfields budget and the point that palworld is just a bad game overall).
The amount of content in Starfield is huge. The lore and thought alone that had been put into the games world and history is insane.
The graphics are in line and match. Many interesting mechanics like the ship builder are integrated and there is the taypical never ending amount of side quests with many interesting quest lines and an extensive main campaign. Again people don't have to like starfield and it isn't a perfect game, it isn't even the best bethesda game but the inequality between fanatically hating on starfield and then loving and hyping up palworld is just ridiculous to me.
I still remember when people loved Baldurs Gate and how everybody said "Look! You just have to make an actual good game with care and love" and then going on to make palworld number one on steam is cheap. This is directly displaying the complete opposite. "Gamers are morrons, you can get away with doing even less if you just make it a meme and have some luck with timing and marketing". How is the "bullying" of starfield encouraging to the devs that wanted to make a good game? How are the sales of palworld an encouragement for companies to waste a ton of money and time to make another rdr2 or bg3?
Again I wouldn't care what you like to play but if you support trash like palworld don't act like a fine connoisseur of games.
Those people don't want to be pleased, they don't crave a good game they just love to hate.
This absolute hive mind online that jumps a target and everyone just goes with the flow.
Palworld is so popular because people want to hurt Nintendo, they like it that the devs are "honest" and are displeased with the current situation oblivious to the fact that they made it possible by preordering and caring less about the actual game and more about trailers and presentations.
Palworld looks like it belongs to the same tier as the gollum game and it hurts to see that this is what people choose to be the biggest hit to date on steam.

Bro... A month from now you need to sit down in silence and play this video and rewatch it in its entirety. I hate pal world just as much as you do but the reasons I don't like it can be explained without attacking other people's sensibilities and gaming preferences. And besides this is closer to Ark with Pokemon than it is Pokemon with guns. My two big problems with the game is its art style, and how it is derivative of modern Pokemon which does nothing for me. The other is how the fans treat this like a fancy steak dinner when its just McDonalds.

I wanted to buy this game because of the 95~% positive steam. But I can’t escape the feeling this game looks like a soulless unpolished uninspired cookie cutter garbage. This looks like a phone game to play while I’m on the toilet ngl. I played craftopia. It’s one of the only games I’ve ever put down because I couldn’t bear it, soulless - underdeveloped and uninspired. Same dev. Makes sense.

I don’t like Nintendo, but i will not defend this game just for the sake of hating Nintendo.. People praise Palworld only because it’s a “disruptive game” coming from a small studio. But this same studio has another cash grab game in early access since 2020.
Combat is bland. Art direction is bland. Pal design is bland. Crafting is bland. Scenarios are bland. Everything is soulless. I think this game is going to age poorly in the next few months.

I can not for the life of me get my friends who play this game to tell me how it’s good, they just say I can’t have an opinion because I haven’t played the game but after not wasting my money and watching videos on it it literally looks like a Pokemon+Ark game with no content aside from catching and building.
really its not a waste of money if you refund it before the time limit runs over, id suggest giving it an honest try and then hate it, games are not just an a visual medium but interactive, so you dont get the experiance by just watching, your friends partialy right, sure you can have an opinnion on a game youv not played, but your opinnions less meaningful with no experiance of the thing your talking about.
I love how people absolutely meatride this game, yet they cant catch on that "Inspired by pokemon" Isn't really inspired, they sort of just recycled the idea into a more open-world, shitty game.

I got the game because I liked the idea of beating the shit out of Pokemon inspired characters. Fun for a few minutes and then I was just irritated with it. A really great game that many may not have even heard about is Void Stranger. It’s the best game I’ve played in a long time.

Lol I just pirated it to see if I'd buy it. When I realized I had to hold in 'F' to craft stuff I was on the bench. When I saw I have to go into the build screen every time after placing a platform, I uninstalled. The stamina system also makes zero sense in this game. All of this is deliberately done by devs so you spend more time playing their game. Maybe I missed something? IMO this game is overhyped trash and its fame is a classic example of herd mentality and mass psychosis. *Waiting for the braindead fanboys to rip me a new one. I solemnly long for some entertainment 🤣🤣*
That’s what the Pals are for, they help you craft stuff and do a bunch of other shit, like farming for you. I can understand if you don’t like it, but calling it overhyped trash is just a lie because it is a great game to most people who have played it (the reviews and numbers show that).

You keep making the mistake I do, you place the platform with left click, which places and takes you out of build mode. Mildly annoying, but if you actually read the on screen prompt, if you press right click, you can keep placing platforms, and press backspace to go back to the build menu to select something else.
Weird controls from what is usually expected, but at least you can keep placing without having to open the build screen every time.
As soon as i saw gameplay i was like oh cool, its pokemon legends Arceus with the added bonus of being able to punch pokemon 😂

Yeah I really like the game, too. I would change the battle system a bit more, maybe have a little more control of what your pal does. And I would like the world to be a little more stylized like how it is in the earlier trailers, although I guess people are saying that trailer looks bad? I guess my taste is just trash.
