I don't know about the "solitary" part for porcupines. A channel on my public subscriptions list called unhinged menagerie (formerly called the porcupine whisperer) now has 8 adult porcupines that congregate on his property, and several insist on coming into his house. Aside from one lonely male named Chonkers (who is very unlucky with the ladies), they get along pretty well in a group setting.
