    God bless that Northen sense of humour Keith, never a limp moment, this must be the quickest build of a Stuart model in history and well worth it, also like Cathys comment below, will definitely remember that one, certainly an entertaining channel.

    I was going to ask you how you got the material around the slot the same width. It is a perfect doughnut. Then I remembered; he has been doing this for 40 years! Beautiful job.

    Another great video Mr Appleton! Had to chuckle at the reference to the tattoo! 😂😂. I'm waiting for someone to ask if it was painful! Comment from the tattoo artist "Don't worry it's just a little prick". "Charming!" says the recipient! 😉

    Never a dull moment in Appleton's Engineering and Fitting for Apprentices. I just about blew water out my nose. Maybe a Beverage Alert score is mandated by Health and Safety. Heheheh....

    Hey Keith,
    Greetings from a flooding Houston, Texas. There are a large number of accolades I could give, but just wanted to say Thank You for your efforts. Just want to let you know your videos are well appreciated.

    Steam engineers are not made they are born. The more i watch, the clearer that is.

    You probably could've made a more precise die block with the rotary table, but making a fixture for it might've taken up lots of time, and it seems that your belt sander method worked well enough. Keep up the good work, and I'm eager to see it run too!
    I wonder, have you ever looked into making a more high-tech steam engine with piston valves, double expansion, variable cutoff, etc? Maybe something like a Doble car engine or a 20th-century locomotive? I've been thinking of making something like that for years, but you're the one actually cutting metal rather than just dreaming!

      I could have done it a thousand ways. This Die block that In made for the video is the one that I am going to use to set up the Reversing gear. Hence the quick job on the belt sander. Once I see where the Die block sits in the slot of the Expansion link, then I will make the proper one which will probably be longer that the one on the drawing - in order to maximise the surface area and prevent premature wear of the Expansion Link slot. I have no interest in "High Tech" Steam engines really. They are a thing of the past and I like them just the way they were :-))))

    Tattoo's: I always thought a smart one would be on the bottom of my foot that says: "For proper operation, this side should face down". No, I haven't done it (yet!).

    I love those tiny oilers. Where ever did you get them?

    • @keithappleton
      @keithappleton  7 років тому

      They are from a company called "21st Century Steam" he sells on the UK Ebay from time to time.

    That.....was.....FUNNY! Don't have any tattoos but if I were to get one as a youngster, I probably would have done something like that.
    Now that I'm older, I thank God I didn't.

    It occured to me whioe watching this episode that making the die block might have been easier by using a similar type of fixture like the one you made for the last piece. Is there a particular reason you didn't do it this way? Or is it more work than what is required to make an acceptable bie block?

    • @keithappleton

      simple ---- Speed ............. I don't do machining for machining's sake.

    • @jacobchicks3523
      @jacobchicks3523 7 років тому

      I see. I suppose it really wouldn't make sense to go through the trouble of making a custom fixture that probably won't be used often

    any reason not to make a round "roller" rather than the squarish die block ?

    • @keithappleton
      @keithappleton  7 років тому +1

      Surface area in contact with the slot . . . a round one would just wear a round depression in the expansion link slot after a while ....
