Do bits even matter? Even back then, the need to jump to 64 bits wasn’t necessary since memory across all systems prior to the Eighth generation had memory pools that weighed less than 4GB. And the need to jump further won’t happen since 64 bits alone could already handle massive amounts of info stored in memory.
Both consoles are great in their own way, with each having their own respective libraries to choose from. It’s a shame the Dreamcast never lived beyond 2001, as it had the shortest lifespan of any sixth generation system released in the west (1999-2001) compared to the GameCube’s average 5 year lifespan (2001-2007). Me personally, I grew up with the purple little box when I was very young in the late 2000s, so I’ll always prefer the GameCube, but I can’t help but feel more fascinated about the history and the legacy behind the Sega Dreamcast, since it was the only sixth generation system to have failed commercially (And I was never even alive at the time when Dreamcast support was axed in early 2001). And yet, I still think the Dreamcast was misunderstood by many gamers back then, considering it’s great line up of games available, and how innovative it was for it’s time. It was Sega’s greatest machine they’ve produced and while it’s sad to see it go so soon, it definitively succeeded in creating a long lasting legacy that can be felt today.
