Thank you for this interview. In the 90’s I was in favor of Ukraine giving its nuclear weapons to Russia, to prevent nuclear proliferation. I think different now. NATO has shown to have been very responsible with these weapons of mass destruction. Not even once have they threatened using these weapons. Not Russia; several times they have threatened numerous democratic countries to use them. Although my basic standpoint of a peaceful world remains the same, I support Zelenskiy’s proposition to either become member of NATO, or to achieve or develop nuclear weapons. For Ukrainians, this is an existential fight. The west has shown to be undecided to guarantee Ukraine’s sovereign rights. Geopolitics and-economics are shooting ourselves in the foot now.

Question for fellow Australian Mick if he's reading the comments. With the US seemingly on a path to turning inwards, no matter the party in power, shouldn't Australia be thinking seriously about it's own nuclear weapons or at least positioning itself to be able to rapidly develop and field one in the future?

If we bordered on ruSSia, China, North Korea, alright, but we are lucky to have a defensive moat all around. But I agree we should become more self reliant as it is obvious nobody can rely on the Yanks.

A defensive 'moat' doesn't stop ICBM's or aircraft carriers. An AAAD strategy won't hold up for Australia in the long-run, as Mick just pointed out in the interview. An 'if you hit us we can also hit you' one is a better long-term plan. What about 50% of American's, and the political right there, have failed to think deeply about is if they become isolationist and their allies can no longer rely on them, currently happening before our eyes, nuclear proliferation is back on the table for us middle powers. Personally I don't want to rely on Trump, or others like him, for my security with an evermore aggressive China north of us. Food for thought for us as a nation.

    • @halporter9
      @halporter9 2 місяці тому

@@JS-ti8ny I will in a minute. So far I’ve only made several donations to Jake Broe’s 2 astonishing campaigns providing upgraded pickups/SUVs to Ukrainian field units. And 10-I5 donations to congressional candidates, mostly extremely close senatorial races-$30 x 2, early and late. I live on Social Security and a small pension.
But I had already decided, spurred on by Jonathan’s reminder, to make a $50 donation out of my limited savings for civilian support from the list. It’s not much but it’s what I have. I figure that these donations will be made up by the $350 combined that I will earn as a poll worker in New York City. 17-18 hour day plus previous training. But no danger and minimal harassment unlike one hears about elsewhere.
FYI: I voted early on Monday. I was surprised at the heavy turnout, and I’ve worked a number of elections. Voting was smooth, no significant lines. I was there for a while, had to update address and vote affidavit.
Odd story about my change of address, completed at the Board of Elections headquarters!, never being entered in the voter database. At the same time I, of course, had updated my poll worker credentials. That went through just fine! Only checked on the voting roll update a week ago and discovered the old address. I had only moved 4 blocks, same candidates, but different polling location. But if I had voted using the old address I would have technically been committing an easily identified felony! Oh how elections deniers would have loved this! What a mess.

A US bipartisan Congressional commission reported all the US military branches are unprepared for a long war with a near peer, ie China, and critical stocks of anti-missile missiles are critically low due to prolonged US Navy operations in the Red Sea against the Houthi attacks. US Navy senior leaders admit critical resources for the defense of Taiwan and American bases and ships are diverted to the wars in the middle east and Ukraine. Joe Biden's & Kamala Harris's incompetence unnecessarily prolonged this war in Ukraine and in Gaza by first denying critical aid to Ukraine only to trickle barely enough for Ukraine's survival and placing absurd restrictions on the use of American weapons.

All it takes is NATO having a in stages, in not very far apart dates, with mimimised eligibility critera in each stage, entry into NATO. Not their current peace time eligibility, Ukraine was invaded. Thus as Putin could be attacking others soon in desperation.
This concept, is meant to be designed for Ukraine, however it should apply to smaller counties, they all know who they are, as in having a small defence, military capability in navy, airforce and armies.
A specific even temporary plan, for entrance of invaded countries.
You can not just sit there and say, smaller country, ro bad, you tried fighting as we tied one hand behind Zelenskyis back, stiff cheddar, tou are on your own because politicans are to lazy to get their thinking hats on.
Temporary safety as a temporary NATO associated country lets say, gives NATO the right to do , whatever the list is un Ykraine, needed ro stop Putins aggression this time, BUT make the plan dit what if it is Russia/ China atracking, ine supporting the other regines as you are having the opportunity to study , use right bow in the middle east.
Instead of trying to get a oeace that will never hold in the middle east , the wirld needs to manage that area.
Meaning whatever those countries are selling tou between countries if needed, get from else where or better get right off needing oil and gas.
The world needs the temperature decreasing, not increasing, afain , the two issues together, crisis levels, need fixing permanently, thus smaller economies need assistance ro fo green and clean ir nuclear powered in between, as a back up, if needed.
What everyone is disteacted by, is when the hearing up stops, we pkinge head in into an deep, devastating ice age, whwew few gunans survuve without heatng.
So kike it or not, tour ookiticans can bot just forget about Ujraine, Ukraine MUST win.
Get it moving towards reaolution, tell Putin euther he withdraws drin Ukraine after the snow melt in soring , ir you as a united wirkd are going into Ukraine, and then backing Yjraine to go in and end him and his Krenlin in two bvwey karge exolosions, city sized explosions.
He will shriek, I will nuje him, out on every channel ans advent calender , count down to a feas Putin advent calender.
Why ? Here are the choices, yiu all fail Ukraine, Putin narches in, uses Ykrainians against the Pokish, ebding them means they iwn all the EU viuntries it qill be a vlood bath like medievil tines, exactly what morons like Steve Bannon, the Federal supreme court, koo koo for coco pops wanted. Nedievil regimes, faje kings, to cover up new regimes forming as you see right now in america. Look on Slivania dlags behind Rico, then go kook at the coat of arms of Von Thurn un Taxis, a Scheonburg upsurper.
The y are vonjers, buts, iff their hrads, driubken with the control, power , the enslavement even House Speaker James Michral Johnson swwps out if every creepy, insudious pore, they start by taking all Anericans frmales votes away after changing superpresedent birth laws taking demakes onky use to being cleaners, cooks for husbands and breeding cows.
Women as the chinese know, hold up half the sky. If femakes, thrur iffsoring, xhildren if voting agr and good, decent men fail to get rid of Trump, it isnot the start of WW 111, that has already shifted into beconing so.
Not voting Trump in stops this, if NATO makes a temporary elegiblity available that kije China gives at minimim , limitless backing to Ukraine and any smaller econonoes that are threatened even with in vasiin by the russian Mad as a fruitcake, Putin.
Environmentally hr adds ro thr carbon emission and we have no time left, tou think D- Day, the temperature freezing all our food sources a novable date ?
Ice age neans frozen cattle, frozen grains, frozen budding fruit crops, world wide nass starvation, cannabalism to survuve , hopelessly unkess we are fully prepared
Atop effing around and get the jobs done and Xhuna, tou will have billiona by then screaming fir foid, di you have the resources to save your people even ?
Thus dates can be malleable, critera can be changed ro suit the circumstances of each country, but the triggering of using a shortened entrance, delaying un needed mikitary issue they can not dix thrmselves because they are ro small cointrues need a creative accounting schedule. A get stuff now, pay later scheme or a ket EU countries loan you all the psychical things until that snall country can get what they need ro furfil NATOs requirements.
What the issue is : us that ehen military make plans, they look at the xurrent situation and plan ahead in case if this or that lose occurring and how to win from a losing situation usually. America plans, in well, we waited until the last second of workd catstrophy, do as we say or we will buke you and they mean it. Because they are a large oopulation, big money, they can ypscale in a few years to full war readiness which I assume they are doing right now.
Military olans ince set are like a brick wall, with nostly males in dominance node making all the decisions to stay the strongest throughout. America is the safest place psyhically on the planet at the moment.
What femakes di, and is a great talent men require not ti kill everything un sight, is flexible, adaptable, ( fast speed), multipointed future thinking.
Because we gave xhikdren where it is our job to get them to , alive, unharmed.
What needs to happen, is a new NATO plan of admission to threatened amaller xountries and on top, most important, the ascension of countries like Ukraine who have outstanding effoet done to meet what they can, and tgen NATO, has this great opportunity, to nake what is missing real.
NATO is big enough , tough enough, combined armed enough, to carry Ukraine, over the line, into safety. All smaller econonies need this option.
The world as anyone with a brain understands, is at war already, it is a regime driven, tinder box, thet are gloating that a few infkexible minds aid them to win by merely waiting and throwing their allie countries males as cannon fodder, thus weakening those countries as well, to the meat grinders.
Even if Teump won, says Aukraine is Putins, guess who us going to be resisting. They have be nice, states gumans, because they were supported to keep the world and themselves free. As a reward, Trumo intends to be the barstard he is. Says one thing , does the opoosite.
Putin dies bit understand, Ukrainians couid turb really nasty, and U do hope they have rhis planbed already, but if not, what wasdone before can be done again after mopping up the North Koreans.

The real problem is can the United State depend on any of her allies to pull their fair share! For 75 years, every American president criticized Europe for failing to adequately fund their own defense while significantly cutting their defense budgets, forces and manufacturing for over 30 years. Worse, President Trump, a strong leader with moral courage, wisely called on America's allies to pay their fair share for their defense commitments and stop sending billions of euros to Russia for cheap Russian LNG/ oil. He was roundly mocked by many European politicians, cultural elites and many Silicon Curtain guests as a fool, narcissist, isolaltionist and fear monger.

@@mautrindade oh, I agree that European nations should step up - the state of many of their armies is horrendous. Only the way Trump tried to stimulate that, as a bully, that's ugly. In fact I bet Trump would rather cut on the US defense budget.

America weaponised the dollar and you western people said nothing. Here in Vietnam if you mr mick remember Vietnam santion were placed on our contry from 1975-94 nineteen yrs where we starved. We ate everything dogs cats rats everything, we took aid from Nth Korea. We still suffer the effects of this starvation even today.
Just one example of your policies and the world has had enough. How many countries live under ypur sanctions ? 50 or 60 sanctions is just a word to you people who have never gone hungry even one single day

That’s very sad. But I see Vietnam is improving now. It has joined the civilised world community. The Vietnamese people are very good. My favourite immigrants to Australia. I even thought about having a Vietnamese wife and living in Vietnam. Because I feel good energy from Vietnamese people . Maybe it’s the Buddhist philosophy

    RESPECT,
IS THE CURRENT WESTERN ATTITUDE AN ACADEMIC FAILURE IN FACTUAL HISTORY?
THE TWO NATIONS THE WEST HELPED IN A MAJOR MANNER IN WWII CHINA & RUSSIA NOW BITING THE HAND THAT
WERE MOST RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTANCE WHEN THEY WERE IN DESPERATE NEED.
ARE WE NOW PAYING FOR OUR POLITICAL CORRECTNESS REVOLUTION OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS.?
