TBH its nice not having upgraded hardware revealed every year. Gives us a chance to really enjoy what we have. Also gives the company a chance to have an even better device, something that'll pop out a little more.
I don't think it would be the worst thing in the world if every phone/laptop manufacturer loved to a new device release every 2-3 years. This idea that we need new devices with tiny, incremental changes every twelve months is crazy and wasteful.
As the Fold6 seems to still be a remote control, I'm putting my hope on the Pixel Fold 2. But if that doesn't look good, I'll be quite happy sticking with the Open until the Open 2 releases. It's a great phone.
That got us in the first half not gonna lie 😅 Imagine if Oneplus comes out of nowhere with one banger of a phone and then just dips after seeing that it's a more niche market.
Part of me really wants to get a OnePlus Open but I feel like it really needs a competitor to DEX in order to truly compete with Samsung.
Android has its own desktop mode but it needs to be activated in developer options. I tried it once but needed extra apps to use like a track pad app.
Samsung's AI features, both now and in the future, are also something to think about.
@@armandogonzalez0814But there is confirmation already that a lot of AI functionality is coming this year - mostly through deep integration with Google stuff but some developed in house by Oppo etc.
Fully agree, I use Dex almost daily so it's a crucial feature for me. Without a true fully fleshed-out alternative I can't get anything else.
Personally I love my oneplus open. Its pretty feature complete. Honestly outside of wireless charging making the phone / camera bump thinner and a newer processor I don't really know what more they could do. Not having to worry about upgrading for one year is nice. It also allows me to really see the durability of these phones.
I'd say they need to improve the buttons. They're higher than most phones and the finger print scanner is flat and small. I prefer the Samsung power button because it's recessed and larger.
@@rushfortacos That's fair I have big hands so I never really had an issue with them but I totally get where your coming from. Recessing the power button would be great. Honestly if these are the biggest problems we have with them I'd still say this is a great phone.
All phones should wait 2 years for release now there to good and what more can they do.
If they can sort out their reliability issues
Android 15 betas are out now for the open!!
I guess ive been waiting for a next gen open for nothing.
I use the oppo find n3, just a different OS but same phone as the one plus. Bought it a week ago. Changed from my 14 pro max. Incredible phone. The battery life isnt the best though. Can't understand why they're withdrawing. Its such a great device. Cant find a strong case though.
The battery life on my Open is phenomenal, though, I came from the piddly battery of the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Yeah, had a feeling cause the OnePlus Pad and Pad Go haven't had any follow-ups either. Still pretty niche in their categories while there also being other options available already. Just hope it's not a one and done.
I think this could be good news for Google if they get their act together with the pixel fold 2.
Or 9 Pro Fold, but when the leaks are right it gonna be nice.
I have just spent a lot of money on OnePlus Open and I hope it will last me for quite some time. So I don't mind that it doesn't release this year and I'm not getting a new one next year either. It's supposed to be getting updates for 4 years.
Love my open, no complaints at all. Switched from the fold 4 and couldnt be happier. Just the crease is a worth able upgrade 😂 bigger battery, way better cameras, love the inner screen border because after a month of use the fold 4s black plastic had hideous scratches. Even the screen protector is way more durable as the samsungs scratched from just swiping with your finger. Sammy has to step up their game.
What about Samsung DEX? Did you ever use it?
@@kingzach74 that's one thing I never used as I have a laptop, it is a cool feature though and it's great that they have that option to turn it into almost a computer .
Did the pen for the one plus get to the states yet?
Not that I've seen
i heard that there has been battery power consumption challenges with vivo x fold 3 pro.(excellent fold phones btw) running Snapdragon 8 gen 3. maybe that's why they're skipping a year.. to the 8 gen 4?? food for though.
Can you make a video of the Android 15 beta update?
Wow so what should I do I just ordered the one plus open it will be here Thursday est USA I was hoping to trade that up for the one plus 2 so what should be best just hold on to the one plus open until next yr then see what the one plus 2 will do ..bc I don't wanna switch off back to Samsung for the z fold 6
Your phone hasn't even arrived and you're concerned about upgrading?
@@HavenJaede ok it's not about concerned and I'm ok listen to the statement every yr they drop a new phone so I'm being sarcastic by saying come Oct of ,2024 if I wanted to trade it up for the one plus 2 I can't that all dear... Either way I'm fine
@@MarcOdom-dc5gk okay 😊
@@HavenJaede I'm not gonna trade it up but I'm an advocate when it comes to phones lol.... I'm like huh cancel wth LoL they coming in 2025 I'm sure it's bc the Galaxy z fold 6 is coming besides I think Samsung makes the screens for OnePlus etc... They probably sat and had a business deal so Samsung can try to sell they phone bc they know one plus is a flag ship killah
I hope this doesn't end up being true. Grabbed the Open Plus Open a month or so ago and am really loving it.
And you're already ready to buy another one? 😂
I think he thought you meant they disconnect bringing new one plus, ditch it like Microsoft did to the duos@@scaryifliteral
@@scaryifliteral I was more hoping that we would see yearly improvement and iterations that would keep propelling the folding phone market in the right direction. OnePlus got so much right with the Open, would really love there to be an Open 3 when I'm looking to upgrade.
tbh thats the smart move
Just got a android 15 beta update as I installed the Android 14 India update
When i first heard the news/rumor, i was actually happy that they werent throwing out another phone just for the sake of it. Give them more time to really improve upon this amazing device.
I am curious though, would it still be possible for OnePlus to release this year, even though Oppo is reportedly holding off? They are different markets, so id be curious to hear how theyre doing in NA.
I got a update on the One Plus Open by surprise, no warning other that what I learn from your prior videos . a lot of AI stuff, took me a bit to get the phone back to where I like it, that is where I know where everything is at and my desktop back to the way I set it up . the only APP i had issues with was Simple Note that I shared with those in the house hold mainly for the grocery list and other shopping needs, I dumped it and downloaded a new app that's able to do the same thing. I don't pictorially care for AI T begin with, but I'm afraid I'll have to change I suppose.
Out of Milk is a good alternative for grocery lists. It can be shared and edited by multiple household members at the same time.
@@kingzach74 This app is available only on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. I don't do apple any more, Open source is the way to go
@@kingzach74 yes, thank you, but the "Out of milk" APP is only for I-pad and I-phones, I have a one Plus Open
You can now try android 15(beta) on your oneplus open, cheers
Vivo just released the Fold 3 and Fold 3 pro... So they did not leave the market
The only downside for me is that the OnePlus Open doesn't have auto data switching. I wanted that on the Open 2.
What is auto data switching?
I hope not, OnePlus Fold was a good device, although im a Pixel 8 Pro user, it was by far the best foldable imo.
A curious question: Are there people over eighty years of age who are very elderly people who own modern smart phones???
Why I stick to Samsung there consistent
Consistent like iPhone 😂 minor upgrades per year
Consistently useless 😢
@stankozniewski9385 same thing with cars every year no one seems to be complaining about them 🤷
Folding phones cost too much to not have the best cameras a company can put in them
I'd rather just purchase two entry level flagships
To be fair, Open is the closest to flagship camera hardware.
Open has the best Cameras
In MKBHD's blind camera test, OnePlus Open placed just behind the pixels, before every Samsung and iPhone... it has such a good camera
I agree the open does take the best folding phone pics, but the day a folding phone has hands down the best pics and video available on Android the price will never be justified to me
