  • Replacing a V belt on a 1973 Chevy C20. This method can be used for most classic and/or older model vehicles. The belt only costs $12 and should only take about 5 minutes to install.

Thanks for upload. Got myself a project like yours. First time turning a wrench is going to be tomorrow. Changing alternator and replacing belts. I feel I can do this now after watching this. Upload more videos of your work on it

That's awesome! Nothing like putting some sweat equity into a vehicle that you love.

I have a 78 Chevy Cheyenne that died the other night. Figured it ran out of gas because these old gauges aren't very accurate. After I put gas, I started it (which took some time) and now the engine revs as if I'm pushing the gas pedal to the floor. I checked the pedal and it seems fine... turned it off. Waited, and it did it again. Anyone have any idea whats going on with it?

Is it safe to run the car with that belt broken off? Mines broke off and stayed running.

It'll keep running, but your alternator will not be engaged so your battery will eventually loose power.

@MyClassicChevy oh ok because I see that it is connected to the fan infront of the water pump so I was afraid it will cause the car to overheat because I figured the water pump was not spinning since the belt broke off. So running it like that will not harm the motor?

@@fallenone6 It will cause it to overheat as well. That's why mine started smoking.

@MyClassicChevy I was afraid that would happen so I shut it off as soon as I could. Did you have any engine/ head gasket damage since yours started smoking?

@@fallenone6 I didn't have any issues after replacing the belt.
