    I've had the 055 and 190, it's baby brother, for about 2 years and I love them both. I use a mobility scooter (buggy), and although I have a lot of upper body pain the weight isn't an issue, just the opposite. When you have difficulties you often become more clumsy, for want of a better way of putting it, so aluminium is the best way forward. I have a Benro gimbal head on my 055 and an older version of the ball on my 190. I would never hesitate to recommend Manfrotto for quality and value for money. I keep an old one in my wife's boot to use with the camera and scope I also keep in her boot and it must be 20 years old and the only thing wrong with it is the cast iron around one of the leg adjusters has snapped through me getting clumsy over tightening it. Good video and subscribed.

      I have sure enjoyed using this tripod! Typically I film 3 to 4 videos a week and having such a robust tripod makes all the difference. Its nice to hear that you have enjoyed Manfrotto as well. I think that I will buy a head with one hand adjustment someday though because I am always having to set building materials down to adjust the angle.

    I purchased the XPRO Ball head and found it's so smooth to use, yet it's nice and firm when even lightly locked.... Obviously more lock is required with a longer lens, whatever, it's very firmly held... I prefer the plate lock on the LH side as the plate is longer that way and supports the camera better than having it at the rear... My preference... Nice vid, nice unit.... Money well spent...

    Many Thanks for the comprehenssive review and clear description, please advise if this tripod can handle both Still and Video Photography. Besides, also confirm that the 055 XPRO 3 Way ball head could be used safely with it to handle DSLR or MFT Camera Bodies with 300 mm Telephoto fixed lens.

    To shoot low to the ground facing forward, you'll need the 90 degree adapter ($100). If you use the tripod's anti-rotation adapter, it will get in the way if you try to rotate the 90 degree post position. No matter since it only really secures the 90 degree center post fully when lined up in its zero position (notch lined-up).

    This is exactly what I was looking for the past couple of weeks to understand the height, centre column tight because those are the two things I am a bit concerned about whether it will be sturdier or so. Since this is an unboxing video, could you share your experience till now and any other suggestions or second thoughts? Thanks, Shashi

    Very good video demonstration Many thanks for posting. - I have just bought this combination from Calumet Photographic Manchester UK for £253 ( 315 USD ) with free next day delivery. Perfect for Macro work. It's a little heavy but this alluminium version is a lot cheaper than the carbon fibre version - I don't intent carrying it very far anyway.

    Will you recommend a ball head for my tripod (velbon videomate II). To shoot posed images of one to several contestants indoors. My main concern is moving from Portrait to Landscape quickly, keeping cam level. All other options are relatively unimportant. The ball head will remain on this tripod specifically for this use. I use a d7200 with 24-70mm lens so total weight about 4 lbs. Thank you.

  • @CelticOdyssey

    Hi, excellent review, but have one question. Is the ball head the XPRO Magnesium Ball Head with Top Lock, or is it the XPRO Ball Head in magnesium with 200PL plate. Huge difference in price. Thanks!

  • @nagol5178
    @nagol5178 8 років тому

    When you lock it in, is there an additional lock? Say if you wanted to carry the tripod on your shoulders with the camera where you can't unclip it? I have this head BTW, I do see two different types of screws under it. One of them looks like a strange type of allen key as none of mine fit it, but I don't know what it does.

    • @FleecefoxStudio
      @FleecefoxStudio  8 років тому +1

      That small screw with the allan key is to lock the ball head in place on the tripod so it wont come unscrewed. The other is the one that fits the tripod main thread. I installed the ball head on the tripod and I dont move it off because this is the only head I have for the tripod.

    • @nagol5178
      @nagol5178 8 років тому

      The one under the lever, under where you put the plate. Will that lock the lever where it can't be undone? I walk with the camera on the Tripod in some situations. Right now I've come up with a safety system from a strap. However, it'd be nice to lock it where the camera can't come off without loosing it.

    • @FleecefoxStudio
      @FleecefoxStudio  8 років тому

      When everything is attached properly it would be difficult to lose the camera while walking. The only way it would come off is if the plate release was pulled. But it is rather sturdy. If you're going to be walking in a lot of brush I would detach the camera.

    • @nagol5178
      @nagol5178 8 років тому

      Well, to report back, I was testing my safety strap to see what would happen if it did come off, upon testing it, I actually really did make a mistake and it really did come off and it wasn't a test... lol So, the test got done in a more real way than I would have done it. It worked perfectly. All I did was attach the safety strap on my camera that goes to my black rapid strap to a D ring that's clipped on the tripod. The camera fell and held on the strap. It did knock the lens cap off as it hit one of the legs. It wasn't a real rough one so nothing got scratched or hurt. Kinda glad it happened because I have confidence in my system now. I wouldn't carry it long distances. I just know on certain Landscapes I go to do, I want to walk 50-100 yards to another angle and I like to keep it on there.

    • @FleecefoxStudio
      @FleecefoxStudio  8 років тому

      A test like that would have been bad out in the field without that safety! Well I am happy to know that you got the answers you were looking for without any issues. Most of the time I dont take my camera on the tripod more than 100 to 200 feet.

      you can with adapter and all... but its kinda useless, all you'll be able is shoot straight, the ball head actually help you level the camera, rotate pitch and roll to the desired position, but yes to answer your question everything is always possible with a little bit of imagination and gears
