I had a great time watching this series, great beginning for Marvel Spotlight.
The Choctaw representation was spectacular, and Alaqua Cox was fabulous.
kingpin not wanting to get hit with another therapy session and running was hilarious to me
Echo should return in Daredevil Born Again and at the finale the Defenders should reassemble!
I loved, loved, loved this series. I hope they make a season two and I cannot wait to see Echo and the rest of the cast again. Biscuits needs to be protected at all TIME!!😂😂😂
My favorite part of Echo was the diversity of ability amongst the characters in ASL that does with all of their backstory so well!
Maya and her mom are obviously fluent, her dad and grandma know a lot of sign from being married to/raising a Deaf person but are still mostly simcomming as they would’ve learned as adults, Becca being more smooth and comfortable with her signs since she learned as a child, Sully and Henry having good levels of sign being part of Maya’s family but not the closest but Henry being more comfortable expressing himself since he would have more recent practice, Biscuits having not as good sign since he wasn’t as close to Maya but using puns like “under-stood” because he’s adorable, and finally Fisk who never even bothered to learn more than a couple basic words despite claiming Maya is his family…
It’s all clearly carefully thought out and so realistic to life and the diversity among ASL users, and I just love it!
Ponki and Bonnie are part of the same lineage of ancestors which is why they also "powered up" when Maya drew upon the ancestors.
This series exceeded my expectations! It was so good!!-the ASL representation, the Choctaw representation, the amputee representation- it was all done so well. Not only was the action fun to watch, but the story was moving. That final fight scene when she stands up with her ancestors behind her literally gave me chills. ❤
After his mother died, Fisk was given a box of keepsakes that she had had in her possession. It contained typical little kid souvenirs from his childhood, along with the hammer he had used to kill his father. This was in the Netflix series. In the episode where he talks about getting the box, he speculates that his mother kept the hammer, instead of disposing of the evidence, because she was proud of what he had done.
Jess you are hands down my favorite host as New Rockstars. I love your passion for diversity.
First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSICA!! Ok. I binged the first 4 episodes and then I had to go to sleep watched the last episode today. Loved the show, loved the representation for the Choctaw people, history and culture. Loved the representation for the disabled community. I love that they took care to represent every one really well. I just wish the series was longer. GIVE ME MORE!!!
I loved Echo. It was beautiful!
Love Hector saying “thematically… THE-MA-TI-CA-LLY” 😂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSICA. I absolutely love the breakdowns. Keep up the good work guys👍👍
There is a really great opportunity in Born Again for Maya to show up or whenever they do cross paths again for them to discover each other like in a real way. They could be fighting and like really going rounds and Matt could say somethings that over time he realizes isn’t effecting her like it does other people her heart beat her smells everything could be off cause she’s not reacting to the vocals so then he knocks her into some pipes on a wall and just taps a quick Morse code message with his billy club on pipes on his end “are you deaf “ and echo has that look of realization taps back on the pipes “are you blind “ and then they go have coffee and write it all out and become bff that’s what I want.
It's odd how we can still love our abusers. Even after all the pain and torment they have caused us. Yet we still love them for the things they did for us. It's something we have to come to terms with and learn to live with. ❤
I’m a binge watcher and so I love that they dropped it all in one.
Power Broker would be a great source for Kingpin's new access
Or Dr. Dooms Latverian genius tech
Happy birthday Jessica-from a fellow Capricorn
I thought this show was fantastic. I was so teary when her heartbeat joined the drum beat, it was simply beautiful.
I don't know if that kind of technology (with the contact lens) is available in the real world, but that would be really cool for folks who can not use ASL due to hand/arm injuries and they want to communicate with loved ones.
People have worked out the timeline of the Netflix shows for a while now, and since they are now canon, we can confirm that the "Three Months Later" scene at the end of Punsiher S2 takes place during the Blip.
There's also that final scene of Iron Fist S2 that is set some months after the main show as well, so Danny, Colleen, and Ward might also still be alive during the Blip. I'd have to check where that scene lines up, though.
No
@@Numberidge To which part of my comment?
Was i the only one who thought Echo and her ancestors were about to jump King Pin😂
Great Series!!
Echo is so badass!!!
Your thoughts on Kingpin’s story inspired by Devil’s Reign Comic run. If so, what parts of the comics will be in the MCU, and what would be adapted.
I could listen to Hector talk Marvel all day. Cheers bro!
Cheers!
Just finished inside marvel 1-3 just in time for 4 & 5! Thanks guys!
Thank you for talking about ASL and Closed Captioning! As someone who uses both, I think they are majorly important!
Great episode, as usual.
Love the long rants on comic theory: Tech levels, Dads, Wilson Fisk Psychology (hammer choices and beyond), Effects of the Blip.
Worst Dad: Living Planet?
How about the first Marvel Romance: Love triangle between Maya, Murdock and Castle? The classic "which side of the moral compass" she chooses. I'm Team Punisher.
This show was way more than i expect... to push the violence throughout and end it with almost the opposite was so poetic. Might have tiggered some childhood events in my own life with an abusive step dad in my life.
As a South African, I've never thought we had a weird accent until I heard it😂
my greatest (and most devastating) hope for Daredevil Born Again is it opens back up with that last shot of Dardevil s3, with Matt, Foggy and Karen having drinks and planning for the future. They clink glasses, smiling and happy and hopeful, and then Karen and Foggy turn into dust. *cue opening credits*
i turned captions on in 2017 and i have never turned them off. if you come to my house and we are watching tv, they will be on.
THANKS for your hard work, everybody!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESSICA!!! LOVE your breakdowns and ENJOYED "ECHO!!!" And WOW, was Goldie Wilson a deep cut!!! LOL!!!
A lot of times, when I hear some one give thoughts on why things are done, and theyre not from the director it feels like a reach, but GD was Hector on point with the hammer rationale.
🤯
Watched first 3 episodes, the next day 2 episodes. GREAT!
I watched it all in one session, loved it. Another great exemple of how the MCU is constantly creating something new and different.
The conversation started at 20:00, nerd gasm. Thank you, Hector
What a Show!!!! I loved it
31:18 Now hold up. When she touched his chest I think she healed his heart. Then she touched his head and showed him his raw inner key ‘flaw’. She didn’t take a memory. She brought it back to the surface and he is going to be working through this trauma with his ‘cornered animal’ brutality
The bullet hit the side of the eye you can see it
I watched in two different segments. 1-3 and then 4&5 and with a show like this I’m that they dropped it all at once cause there wasn’t much to it. I think it’s great way to introduce characters. It’s alot cheaper so they can do a few a year but people need to realize they aren’t going to see every character that’s introduced in all the big movies. There are too many now to have everyone appear together. It’s going to have to be different universes that some of these characters live in.
Dude the closed captioning comment about it taking you out of the moment by not being collaborated with through the writer is crazy how true that is. It had to be said!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSICA!!! 💙💙💙
I thought I heard Fisk offer Maya "an empire", not his. For a second, I thought he might offer her Henry Lopez's place, let her take over the business there, in Tamaha.
P.S. I loved Hector's theory about the use of the different hammers.
I really liked it and I would love more spotlights like this one. It seems clear that the people working on this cared about it and it doesn't always feel that way every mcu project. Watched the episodes over two days and loved everything
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY JESSICA!!!!!! I watch every breakdown of yours, even when it's not your birthday month because you are awesome!!!
FYI as a South African, I can confirm that the Zane dude isn't doing a South African accent. Dunno what accent it is, but it ain't one of ours.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESS!!🎉
Mayor Kingpin to the New York Vigilantes: “You have failed this city!”
Fisk is not going to keep a murder weapon for sediment. He needed a hammer for a prop to use to temp her to complete her journey to the "dark side". He had one of his goons pick one up at a shop.
definitley the best Tv to come out of Disney+ marvel, only surpassed by andor
I cried LIKE A BABY during that last episode
Who needs Better Help when you have the BreakRoom 😻
1:07:25 I know Hector and i fist fist-pumping with tears when the Spaniards got it in What it is it
I thought the difference in the Hammers was to illustrate the fact that memories are subjective. He remembers as a kid using this hammer even though we saw in the flashback that he uses a different hammer.
I also thought it was a reference to our own memories being not as clear on the MCU. Not only has it been a while since we seen Fisk kill his father but also the Canon is changing slightly. The Netflix shows are Canon mostly but there are some minor changes. Like a minor change from framing hammer to a ball peen hammer
In Netflix Daredevil, after Fisk’s mother dies, he’s given a box of keepsakes she had, which included typical little kid stuff from his childhood, as well as the hammer he’d used to kill his father. He’d thought that she’d disposed of it, but she’d kept it because she was proud of what he’d done. So he had that hammer. But, I doubt he carried it around with him. Someone suggested he had a henchman pick one up somewhere, so he could use it as a prop in his manipulation of Maya. I think that seems likely, and they probably just grabbed the first hammer they found without caring what kind it was, since Maya wouldn’t have known it was different.
@@elizabethmorsund4512 yep I remember that his mother kept it.
I don't think kingpins would have had just some random goon get it for him. I think he's trying to keep whatever relationship he had with Maya intact.
To Kingpin this is the hammer that he used
What if the dusting allowed kingpin to just walk out of prison? He could’ve easily taken out/dealt with remaining guards and rebuilt during the blip.
id love to see maya involved with the midnight sons! shes already building a connection with the spiritual, in the comics theres a native american ghost rider, i see a bunch of potential there that someone smarter than me could piece together more coherently (: also would allow her to stay on the more violent side of the mcu without compromising her arc away from just murdering willynilly
Happy birthday Jessica!!
Happy Birthday, Jessica! 🤎
Cast-gasm!!! Happy Bday, Jesssickahhhh!
Loki (as a baby) wasn’t ‘stolen’ by Odin. The baby was a runt, and Laufi wouldn’t accept him. He was placed on a ceremonial alter to die. Odin took pity on the child, and raised him as his own.
Call the Doctor on the Road I broke my leg😂😂 love it
59:10 ✨ Jess, the full quote is "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Toxic family like to misuse it out of ignorance. It literally means the opposite. Found family loyalty > your genetics. ❤
I was a bit confused about the discrepancies between Fisks past in this and Daredevil, I get that it’s memory vs flashback but also I think it would have been such a small thing to make the details right. My immediate thought on watching was that this was confirmation it’s not canon. Then I saw the Defenders being added to the timeline so I’m just more confused than I was in the first place😅
We are still talking about two different departments of Marvel. I don't think Marvel Studios wants to be creatively limited by everything those series enstablished.
Not only did Odin steal baby Loki but the Asgardians used to feast on the children of their enemies in a time period that Thor remembers, so think about that.
Kingpin should be in Spiderman 4 . Make it a Daredevil Spiderman team up film. Introduce Miles at the end of the film
Jessica and Hector have my hearts lol
What about avengers tower?!? Who owns it?!? Brad Winderbaum said that it would be answered in the show but it wasn’t??? What do you think Even?
Fisk probably needed to get the ASL tech because he was running out of human translators.
Happy Birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSICA!
Okay, so I have a theory here... when young Maya hit that poor woodpecker with a rock from her slingshot and then tried to lie about it to her mother, the bird took notice, and once it was healed by Maya's mother it flew off to plot its revenge...my theory is, THAT VERY SAME WOODPECKER found out that it's pecking ability was strong enough to cut through the brake lines on the Lopez's family vehicle, hence why the bird made itself seen right as the grandparents were leaving the house because it wanted Chula to know what it had done....Thems the breaks/brakes!!! So next time you want to hurt an innocent living creature unprovoked and for no reason in a Bart Simpson-esque manner, just remember you might be setting off a series of events that could leave you legless and mom-less!!!!
Happy happy birthday Jessica!
Punisher and Werewolf by Night TV-MA shows would go hard!
Everybody's calling Bonnie & her cousins, she is her sister.
Binged half and half, great show.
Speaking about the engineers in the mcu I would love to see the return of A.I.M and Justin Hammer as the chairperson of A.I.M and having the Kingpin as one of it's investors. Which will explain the tech in the show.
I agree with Hector's theory about addressing the blip in Daredevil Born Again and to piggy back on that I think if Vanessa was dusted then they use that as an excuse for the recast.
Wilson Fisk is Keanu Reeves mimicking Starlord, mimicking Thor, in Avengers Infinity War.
29:10 nerdriot needs to make Biscuits-in-a-monster-truck merch!!!!
That finale was awwwwful 😂😂 omggg, and I felt so much was missing, episode 3 to 4 felt weird, overall some good scenes, DD cameo was okay, Biscuits was my guy but Henry is my dawg, the underrated MVP of this series! I just felt it needed more context or expo which is crazy to say these days, but it's what was needed
After seeing what happens to Fisk and his potential plans moving forward. Do you think that we will see Fisk come into the role of Mayor of NY in any of the movies( like cap 4 or thunderbolts) or are we just going to see him in Born Again. And if we don’t see him till Born Again, will Born Again be set under Mayor Fisk or is it gonna work up to it.
When Maya didn't get on the plane I thought that pilot was DONE FOR 😂
Remember Kingpin has access to tech in Spiderman the animated series so this is definitely believable that he has some connections to someone
Happy Birthday Jess!
Happy Birthday Jessica🎂
9:32 Kingpin definitely was a customer of Adrian Toomes and probably hired/recruited Phineas to make weapons for him after Toomes goes to prison.
Kingpin has recruited Alistair Smythe to build him tech!
Wilson Fisk’s mom is a victim. She should have called the mob on Bill Fisk. Fisk was alone when he was listening to the violence but Maya had loving parents. I don’t think the writers were saying that Fisk was always evil because a part of him is that there is a reason he is messed up in the head.
55:56 that being the writers, whenever the story requires these weird undefined powers she will have them
I BINGED ECHO GREAT SERIES ....JESSICA HAPPY BDAY YOURE A GODDESS!!!
7:53 Medical tech is definitely more advanced in the MCU - look at Avengers: Age of Ultron and the tech used to heal Hawkeye and create Vision. That was in 2015 and in the ten years that has passed in the MCU (Echo takes place in Spring/Summer of 2025) some semblance of that healing tech could have made it to the general public and definitely Kingpin.
I love her abilities, it’s still basically the same as in the comics she just takes on the skills of her ancestors. Its so poetic.
Does anybody also notice the izuku midoriya reference when it came to the abilities? Lol
I thought i was the only one that got slight "one for all" vibes from her powers
What the honest heck are you talking about? This is nothing like OFA at all. This is closer to Spider powers from the comics, or Eagle Vision from Assassin’s Creed, or Kryptonian powers, things that are biologically passed down from parent to child rather than a master to apprentice. If you want an origin story similar to OFA in Marvel, watch Iron Fist.
Basically the same? More like nothing similar at all, when did she EVERRR echo someones' moves? Not onceee
@@J.O.R.D you clearly weren’t watching the same show as everyone else lol
@@ZedXD3tell me? When did somebody do a move and she did the same move?I can't remember that being highlighted
i think i needed one more episode to really convince me of her powers. i thought episode 4 was fantastic, especially that moment where her grandma is telling her about her ancestors are coming to her in times of need and she basically says, 'fuck that, i didn't need my ancestors when you ostracized me from my family, i needed YOU. but you chose yourself.' i guess the turning point in her mindset is that encounter with her mother where she tells her to let go of her anger, but i still wasn't quite convinced that that one event was enough to change her mind.
also, i'm just not 100% how literal 'your powers come from your ancestors echoing through you' needed to be represented. i think it would've been more than enough for the ferocity, cunning, and other abilities from her ancestors to be reflected in her personality and fighting abilities, not necessarily with more nebulous hands powers. that being said, i thought the show overall was pretty decent and i was really happy with the way it was respectful to both the deaf community and native culture. SO glad there wasn't a massacre at the powwow - we don't need any more depictions of white men destroying native populations lmao
I so loved Echo! Personally it is right under WandaVision and Loki. As a Trans person, if we can get a strong queer/ trans character where we lean into that. so far we have had hints but that's about it. And Happy Birthday Jessica!!!
So well double birthday 🥳 I'm still watching whole thing
Jessica is truly my favorite!
Certain RPG have timers so they can go through walls and explode at a certain point
Speedrun winning a Super Bowl with 5 teams in franchise
Maybe the powers are to make Echo usefull and relevant in a Blade/Moonknight/Dark Knight/Agatha(?) crossover event like some light magic is the clasic counter to vampires, demons and other hard to kill monsters.... what if she heals werewolf?
After all we could argue that her powers are mistical in nature and i dont know if the inicial being before the clay cames out is a god or something but if it is or at least is imbued with godly energy then Maya could be like an Avatar? after all it would make sense that a more "organiced" religion like from Egypt would have more strict rules and pacts and stuff meanwhile an oral tradition based on ancesters would have a diferent process and a more ramified and diverse tradition of selfdiscovery like Asian spirituality would bring an open anyone can train it kind of magic like in kamar-taj...
I’m sorry but how did the panel not immediately say that Ego is the worst father?!?!? He literally kills planets that his kids are born in and planted a tumor in Peter’s mom’s head. He’s the worst by far
13:30 what if some kid nobody knows who they are because of a Dr Strange spell made the contacts because they’re just trying to make ends meet. (but how would Peter Parker not know about Fisk at this point?)
Echo was the villain of the show and it was never addressed
SO GOOD!!
