Can someone explain me why this extremely talented woman with a huge voice did not get the recognition she deserved?
Sadly, Sam (Brown) had vocal chard problems... see Wikipedia - a real loss to everybody....

She was very well known to the industry. Had a very busy career, as many do not having to sell your soul. She worked with lots of people including Jools, Pink Floyd and many more. I saw her play at a local music club, it was a excellent night and mind-blowing vocals.
I like her version of Horse to the water even more than George’s original

I remember Sam as a backing singer on the Pulse tour with "Floyd" at Earls Court in '94 where I met her briefly in the interval, wow what a singer and what a lady!!

Excuse me for a moment while I try to shake off temporarily blacking out and I go get my high blood pressure pills... I was blown away by her first sinmgle - Stop! - got the album, and discovered all the songs are just as good. I have every one of her albums. Each one is unique in it's own way, but the quality remains consistent. IMHO she left all the other female artists of that time (Sarah McLaughlin, etc...) in her dust. Loved seeing her on the tour she did with Pink Floyd (even though I was at the other end of the stadium). Literally lost her singing voice for no reason any doctor could find. It's come back a bit with huge help from instruments/gear like vocoders. A true shame.

This is around the time she was having trouble with the voice I think she said in an interview. She is fantastic but must be tough competing with that big band volume. Being from the states, I only discovered her a few years back unfortunately but sure glad I did.

Sadly, due to a failed medical procedure to remove nodes from her vocal cords, Ms Brown lost her singing voice - at least the one heard here - some years ago. In recent times she has focused on the ukulele and her ukulele orchestra.
Yes, since 2007 she lost her voice, sadly. It's such a tragedy that it happens to so many singers later in life.

She is an amazing talent! However,I would agree that she attacked that note from underneath and came up to reach it. I can’t decide on whether towards the end she was pitchy or just unorthodox with her note selection. Still love everything about this rendition!
