The comedic timing of people on the other side screaming like "HELP ME PLEEEASSSEEEE" and then a very casual "please hold" with Christmas music in the background
That dude in the avalanche screaming for help and Gabs just putting him on hold and being like, "so as I was saying, I'm part of this book club...". That really got me xD
@@Chameleon_Cat Honestly, I kinda feel like that's beating a dead horse at this point. We get it, the animation doesn't hold up to today's standards. 44:45 I just like the image of this scene in my head: Gab's chatting to people about a horror book club she signed up for, as she answers the phone, then stops to listen to this guy apparently just get buried under snow, ice, dirt, and rock. After hearing that, Gab just puts him on hold and immediately continues on with her story about the book club. Then, after finishing her story and looking through her catalogue of SCP-like phenomenon, she brings the guy off of hold just to say "Alright, sir, it appears what you have is an avalanche and NOT a mountain warlock. Mystery solved. Have a lovely day!"
I'll bet the Mouse King is the dude from the main game that was turned into a mouse. He's trying to form a militia to get back at the company, and they want him dead because he knows too much
I dunno, I think it's more just a reference to The Nutcracker, but if it is another smart mouse situation, I don't think it's that particular one, cause they talk about it like it's an ongoing problem each Christmastime.
@@ElFreakinCidAs with all other story and folktale references in the game, it won't be just a Nutcracker reference, but adapted to the world. That would mean making the Mouse King a smart mouse.
I was so thrown in a spectacular way by all the things in this. Santa and Krampus being portrayed as equally dangerous counterpart demons while something else entirely comes down the chimney and leaves its own handmade approximation of toys, elves as well-meaning intruders whose uncanny biology causes illness, dwarves BEING the rocks we usually see them picking away at, the concept of "visions of sugarplums" being the side effect of a spirit that causes deadly sugar dependency, Sweden's ill-fated annual Yule Goat being a paranoia-inducing Grilled Cheesus-esque apparition, the Polar Express as a child-eating monster, Dickens' Christmas ghosts all being one entity, the use of every obscure scary Christmas character Sam O'Nella taught us about (Mari Lwyd, Gryla, the Yule Lads, the Yule Cat and Perchta), Trevor Henderson crow monsters disguising themselves as carolers and their bird sounds being mistaken for off-key singing, the Nutcracker's nemesis as a recurring Christmastime threat (at least according to the infamously mouse-hating HSH), a storm of eldritch spores being what turns people into wendigos, Rudolph's nose being a weird fungal growth... Hell, I could even almost swear the Mountain Warlock might be a twisted take on the Grinch, someone should analyze that singing and see if there's a bit of You're a Mean One in there. And on top of all this, they got the very man who inspired the original game's prank caller to voice Hudson in this. The HSH devs never fail to amaze.
Others have already pointed out some references, but I spotted two more: The sugar wisps, with their plum-scent and dream inducement, is a nod to "'Twas the Night Before Christmas". The time wisps stay for a single night, displacing a person in time, and the person is left with a new outlook on life and a desire to change... or anxiety about what's to come. I believe this is a reference to the ghosts from _A Christmas Carol_ And that's what happened to that one guy who knew he was gonna die.
It was especially obvious in his wrong answer call, when he starts screaming "I'll change, I swear, I'll change!" Scrooge, after all, ultimately declared the same thing after he was shown visions of his lonely death and everyone happy he was gone.

The Mare seems to be based on the Welsh tradition of the Mari Lwyd. As Gab was reading the description I was like “wait a sec, that sounds familiar…” Mari Lwyd is a horse skull stuck on top of a wooden pole and then draped in fabric to hide the person carrying the pole.
