  • This is a bow hunt on opening weekend where mid-morning scouting led to a hot oak flat on top of a small ridge. I was using my Acadian Woods longbow which I have another video from earlier in the summer about.

    Shot placement couldn't have been better. Good job. There's a lot of time, money, effort, and thinking leading to that arrow, and you executed when your moment came. Great work.

    Perfect shot man. I love when compound guys shy away from the shoulder and a slow trad bow slices right through it. Heavier arrow and sharp heads make a difference.

    That was exciting, close-up & personal. I was wondering how many Sam seen that afternoon? That looked alot like my short Jag 210. My new 400 spine Blackeagle X-Impact's have the Centerpin steel 58 grain sleeves on them. It's like no friction with the Jag Wax & the balance of that arrow is ridiculous. Thanks & Congrats & can't wait for the next.

      Sam ended up seeing 3 but they weren't close enough. I think she ended up having an opportunity at a button buck but chose not to shoot. I was using the 200gr normal jag here. They are some nice heads.

    Question - the device that you rest your hand on, looks like it's at the apex of your bridge? WIth a black lever? That's not a Ropeman, right? What is that?
    Beautiful video--and thanks for posting a doe kill. It's not ALL about them horns.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  9 місяців тому +1

      It's called a Madrock Safeguard. It's a device that'll hold your position like a ropeman, but also allows you to rapel, using that lever as a speed brake of sorts. On my single stick climbing video I show its use in more detail

    • @stongnyid
      @stongnyid 9 місяців тому

      Thanks boss. And kids? This is why Garrett’s the best. This is the third or fourth question I’ve asked him, outta nowhere, and he always answers immediately, accurately, and with zero condescension.

      @DIYSportsman  9 місяців тому

      Thank you.

  • @youtoober87
    @youtoober87 9 місяців тому

    Great shot. Looks like you are using 8mm with a madrock and the line is taught back over the top to your left. I can't tell if it is backed up or just taught from going into your pouch. Can you comment on that? I've never seen anyone put it back overtop the madrock like that. Thanks.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, the rope is taught just from it going back into the pouch on my left side. I don't like ropes on my strong side where they could get in the way. The way I have it going over the top and kept tight makes it extremely unlikely the rope could get underneath that lever. I know some guys who will start like that and basically tie a little knot around the device. I wouldn't recommend anyone use with a rope diameter smaller than spec'd. I did a lot of testing with the combo trying to force it to slip and couldn't get it to, but that's a personal decision.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I'm using a yost predator tab with an extra layer of leather in the middle. I'm wearing an older cabelas merino quarter zip that I think was made by icebreaker. And then a first lite merino balaclava.

    I've learned a lot from your channel over the years. Nice traditional harvest there!
    Just one question, did you use a DSLR/ mirrorless or camcorder to film the deer when it came in for the shot?

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  8 місяців тому

      I used a mirrorless camera, Sony A7siii with tamron 28-200 lens, though I've recently switched to a ZV-E1 with 18-105 power Zoom

    • @PennsylvaniaSasquatch
      @PennsylvaniaSasquatch 8 місяців тому

      Great. thanks, that helps. I just picked up a DSLR Canon for better low light filming. The footage quality in your video is of good quality. You can tell the difference between a run of the mill camcorder and a DSLR or Mirrorless camera based on the quality of the final product. 📸
