Everyone was sleeping on my Cubbies this winter but when we got Swanson, Belli, and Mancini I knew we had a chance to turn heads. Hoerner is on fire, happ looks good, Wisdom is on another level, Gomes is even playing famn well. Lfg Cubbies!!!

I've been calling it early, Cubs pitching is gonna be sneaky good this season. 12-7 record after 2 series with the Dodgers, 1 series vs Milwaukee, 1 vs the Rangers & 1 with the Mariners. If they can take 2 out of 3 vs SD, man thats gonna be a great April.

As a dodgers fan, I knew we lost by inning number 5 so I felt even more awful for Smyly. I didn't want him to get a perfect game but I didn't want it to end like that. I felt so bad for him and his catcher

Muncy is a mediocre defensive 3rd baseman. The Dodgers have so many holes their batting order after the top 2, and are so weak defensively they might finish under .500. Given Roberts managing it's looking like a good bet they will. Not the same team without Turner, Turner, Bellinger, Lux and Smith either departed or injured.

Exciting brand of baseball by the Cubs. It’s great that neither the bats nor the pitchers are carrying the team; both are helping the other. Could’ve easily been 14-5 if not for Fulmer.
You're right. Fulmer has been the only real struggle so far for the Cubs.

You hear the word alot, but potential is the only way i can describe this year's cubs. If you took some of their player's best years and knew they would produce this year in the same way, then this team could be a surprise contender. The question is of course, will bellinger, hosmer, mancini, stroman, etc have a "return to form" type year or not. Like i said, ultimately it's potential. I guess we will see.
The way I see it so far, if you want my opinion on the players you've listed, I can say this (Im going player by player, so my opinion is long)...
Bellinger is still fielding great for us and has made an adjustment to his batting, allowing for a more straight cut through the ball. What I'm saying is that it's the reason he's been absolutely destroying the ball. I see no reason to worry about Cody.
Stroman has been pitching out of his mind so far this season. Until something occurs that would lead me to be worried, let the good times roll.
As for Mancini, I see him as a bigger question mark, early in the season. We were very high on him heading into the season, and he was crushing it, his most notable asset being his powerful bat that if it just touches a ball, can send it out of any stadium. However, while it hasn't hurt us yet, he seems greedy with base running. Also, just recently, he went on an 0 for 17 stretch of hitting. He's done well in 2 games in a row now, but I hope this doesn't become a trend.
Finally, Hosmer is consistent. He only has one homer, but he is a solid hitter, fielder, and overall, addition to the team, thus far.
@@jeremytittle1857 Actually Hosmer has been horrible except for his defense which has been passable. He could be DFA'ed if the Cubs keeps putting up wins and he's not adding to the offense, which is not much of a loss with Mancini/Wisdom/Mervis playing 1st/DH. Cubs has one of the worst DH & 1B production in the league. They are paying Hosmer league minimum so theres that. Mancini is in a 2 year contract so he gets alot longer leash, which looks like he's starting to warm up. Mervis needs to be called up because Cubs needs a left handed power hitter, which Rios is not providing - another DFA candidate. Cubs are deep, they have Mervis, Velasquez & Morel that are putting up crazy stats in Iowa, to a point where they really dont need ABs in AAA anymore and they need to give them major league at bats. I can see any combination of Hosmer, Mastrobouni, & Rios getting DFA'ed or traded sometime soon, maybe Torrens being a casualty because he's a 3rd catcher and they need to make room in the 40 man. Madrigal is playing his way into staying in the club, ok defense at 3rd, decent at 2nd & he's actually hitting and brings some speed of the bench. They can actually DFA (or trade) Fulmer and it might make them better - a decision might come once Hendricks is ready to go, Cubs has one of the deepest bullpen in the league. I can see them being a top 5 bullpen at the end of the season as long as they are not sellers at the deadline.
@Jeremy Tittle the adjustment you're talking about with belli, I respectfully disagree. His swing is identical, personally think it was Dave Robert's and his management. Belli was played all over and batted everywhere. It makes a complete difference if your team believes in you and your manager. He has the support and a hungry group of guys behind him. We got him on a prove it deal and hopefully he remembers this and comes back for 4-5 years 100 mil. I honestly can't remember the last time we have had an everyday starting CF besides Happ plugged in but he isn't 1 naturally. Juan Pierre? I've always loved belli and hope he stays here for the remainder of his career.
This was a great game for the Cubs today. Smyly had a real chance at a perfecto. I don't know if he would have thrown out that guy in the top of the 8th even if Gomes didn't collide with him, but unfortunately, that play will probably define the outing. However, the offense grabbed the bull by the horns and gave Smyly breathing room to work his knuckle curve to perfection.

Honestly I'm very suprised with where the cubs are. Was worried and didn't think much with the lack luster of signings. Maybe it's too early to say but I'm very impressed with how things are going and I'm happy to be proven wrong
Lackluster of signings they brought in a bunch of new hitters… quality ones in the form of Dansby, Bellinger and Mancini

I said it when I found out all their additions...I said they'd go 90-72 and make it as a wildcard..I mean just look at the arms...with the exception of just a few..it's all 95-97 mph..and that's decent fastball speed.... i had a good feeling about it...they just gotta keep playing hard!
