I have listened to 3 or 4 of your compositions, Lex and I must say you are a very talented composer. Your modulations are unique. I think that will be the first thing a listener will notice. Here and there I catch traces of Liadov one of my favorite Russian composers. Your orchestration is pretty solid, it may be time for you to try your hand at a full orchestral work. Is Alex Khomenko your real name? It might be a good idea to put your descriptions in both Russian and English so English-speaking audiences get familiar with your name and work. Well done! JJ
Thank you very much! I`m very happy that you like my music. Yes, Alexander Khomenko is my real name. Now I don’t write orchestral works because this kind of music is impossible for performing. Conductors even don't look in a score if a composition is not by Mozart, Tchaikovsky or another classical composer. In most of my compositions here I made descriptions in both Russian and English. However, this suite is a vocal composition. Unfortunately, my English is not good enough to translate correctly even titles of this thing. And especially I can’t translate lyrics. These poems by Vika Osadchenko are both beautiful and difficult. For example Google suggests to translate the word “неприкаянные” in the title as “restless”. But “неприкаянные” is not just restless. In Russian this word has a semantic shade like wandering, homeless, cursed. Like Flying Dutchman. The same the word “звездочёт”. It is not astrologer. This old even a bit outdated word is both astronomer, astrologer and wizard. Like Merlin =) I’m afraid English-speaker audiences will not be interested to read my long explanations in my terrible language.
@@lexshadow4118 I often use a translator to understand a foreign language, not sure if that would help. I understand about not writing for large orchestras. I wrote two piano concertos for large orchestra and the cheapest price I could get 10 years ago to perform was $250,000. It would probably be $500,000 today so I stopped writing music since I don't like to write for just piano. I must tell you that UA-cam rejected my video that you commented on as being too violent to advertise so I must sadly delete your nice comment. I will try to put on a more mild version. JJ
@@JJTownley_Classical-Composer It is interesting what violent is in your that video. Sometimes UA-cam’s policy is very strange. Yes, you are right it is fantastically expansive to perform a symphonic composition. Especially if we want to record it. As for me it is strange to do such performance without recording. You say that you don’t like to write for piano, but what about chamber genres? String quartet or piano trio are interesting enough. Also there are vocal music. Do you intend to write something chamber or vocal? I have listened your both piano concertos. They are very nice. If you stopped composition it will be very sad.
@@lexshadow4118 Honestly, Lex I don't think I have that much talent. My music lacks originality. Many professional musicians have told me it's too much like Rachmaninoff. So after the Ghostly Waltzes I just lost my desire to compose. But I think you're extremely talented and I think you will find your individual style in time. Classical music is a very hard business for composers to succeed but you might make it. You have to give yourself a chance.
@@JJTownley_Classical-Composer Originality is a not main part of composer’s style. Even Rachmaninoff often had been accused by critics for lack of originality. However he was one of the greatest composers of XX century. I think every author must look of a new sense in his creation. A new sense or a new point of view. Of course, if you don’t want to write music anymore it is your decision. But your concertos and your waltzes are very interesting and talented things. This music is wanted to be listened. And thank you for your appreciation of my works.
