    I know you have a very small channel right now...but hear me out, your videos are going to start to blow up. Keep up the great work and focus on the quality content and you’ll get there eventually. I really love the dedication to the goths, they are unsung heroes of Europe!

      Thank you kindly brother! It is of course nice to be appreciated. Yes Goths and Gothic language of course have a special place in our group; there will be more videos about Goths in the future. We try to be as factual as we can; however sometimes, especially when we talk of the old religion we need to combine our own experiences with facts, for one simple reason - so little is known about Gothic prechristian religion.
      If you (or anyone else) have a suggestion how to improve ourselves or what kind of video to do - please let us know. Also we refuse to have patreons, or make money, we do all this in honour of the old Gods, our ancestors, and our beloved mother Europe. Hails!

    I really enjoyed the video! As a speaker of English, Danish and German it's fascinating to see the similarities and the differences between Gothic and the modern West Germanic languages (English and German). Also if you wrote the prayers they were very beautiful.

      Well, these are kind words indeed 👍. Yes Gothic as an east Germanic languages is a distant relative to modern Germanic languages. It was greatly influenced by old Saxon language. @@cattubuttas4749 Well, after leaving Scandinavian peninsula (in their legends Scandza), Goths have landed in what is today Northern Poland and remained there for quite some time... their neighbours were the old Saxons. Thus, Gothic language was influenced by the old Saxon (and perhaps vice versa). Later Goths moved to the shores of the Black Sea (modern day Ukraine) and Saxons, with Angles, and Jutes, and some other minor Germanic tribes moved to and conquered modern day England.

      @@Wulthus What makes me really smile is that me (and all of my ancestors) live on a river estuary in Essex where the Vikings once sailed. I can only imagine the fear and terror they must have felt as they watched the long ships approach the shore from the North Sea. I was brought up in the High Church of England (with its own dubious, often cruel, and definitely dictatorial history) BUT, I have always felt more of an affinity to Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany (as though that's where I really from) so Thor, Odin and the Norse Gods and the prayers, myths and legends of the North make much more sense to me than my own 'teachings' (and I am not young now). So, I enjoy everything about Norse history and your voice, saying the prayer in the old language was truly beautiful. 😘

As for the Gothic language, it is, as you probably know, the oldest attested Germanic language, and was largely responsable for reconstructing the Proto-Germanic language. @@Wulthus And thank yóu! I remember the Codex Argentis and the language of the fourth century blew my mind as a youngster. My Frisian great-grandfather called his 'heit' (father) still 'Oate'. Still very close to Gothic 'At(t)a' after almost 17 centuries. Though Frisian is a Westgermanic language and closest cousin to English, a lot of archaic words still survive ('fûgel', 'hynst' e.g.) Hearing Gothic is reconnecting with them for me and remembering where we came from. Also, gods like Tiw(a)z, Weada(n), Thunaer and Fria were strong here as archeology, runic inscriptions and the days of the week clearly show (Tiisdei, Woansdei, Ton(g)ersdei, Freed). I will certainly check out your other prayers. Ik winskje dy lok, seine en sûnens ta!

However, if you are seeing gods through the prism of such an extreme selfishness "I need (gods to do this and that) ...", and if that something you need is so prosaic as magical sorcery (lightning bolt hitting steel) then you are much better just watching Marvel blockbusters... and leaving the Germanic gods altogether. I am affraid that prayers you can find here, in this channel, go for something else. We like to believe, and it is our goal and hope, they reach deeper into the essence of both gods and humans, also both on a physical and metaphysical level. Mechanically reciting prayers or reciting them for the most basic needs is like talking under water. To properly say a prayer, so that the entities we refer to as gods hear them, and listen to them... even the shortest prayers, which are often the most powerful, requires mental (and physical) strength, healthy fear and true respect of the gods. If you want "magical sorcery" then you better find something else. How you came up with "magical sorcery" is beyond me🤔.

    when you consider that the Goths converted to Christianity VERY early on, that means prayers like these would have been made a LOOOONG time ago (like 3rd century and earlier) idk why I find that interesting, as if it being a much earlier time also adds a sense of mysticism to it? like this was before the Hunnic invasions pushed the Goths out into Rome, when they were living (sorta) peacefully in the Carpathians and the steppes, the history of their culture and lifestyles lost to time, yet knowing they were culturally related to the later Germanic invaders like the Saxons and Norse... it just makes it feel, magical? lol

    • @Wulthus
      @Wulthus  Рік тому +1

      Well, thank you for an interesting comment!
      However, we chose Gothic because we a) live in countries once inhabited by the Goths b) we consider ourselves to be (distant) relatives of the Old Goths and c) Gothic is the oldest attested Germanic language that can be almost fully reconstructed despite the fact that it hasn't been actively spoken since the fall of Ostrogothic kingdom and since Visigoths decided to abandon their language.
      Thus we speak to the Old gods in Gothic because we feel closer to the gods and to the Old times...

      Hi. This word is not a proto-Germanic but proto-Norse. Proto-Germanic version would be Wolthuthewaz. The meaning is "servant of Ullr", Ullr being one of the Aesir asociated with archery and skiing. Cheers!

    Dont blame me on, but that existed and known eastern Germanic language sounds more like Eald Ænglisc than any northern or western Germanic languages. May it be just voice actors are English speaking person who just roleplay as storyteller just it is extinct language?

    • @Wulthus
      @Wulthus  2 роки тому +2

      Well, to be honest we are talking about a language that's been "dead" for almost 1500 years. There aren't any clues as to how exactly Gothic sounded (of course). In any case all the Germanic languages were similar regarding the pronunciation (the way they sounded) at the times Gothic was still spoken (not to mention the protoGermanic times, when this distinction was almost non existant). Thus, all of us who are trying to "use" Gothic today have our own ways of sounding. You may compare it to Latin. There is classical pronunciation and ecclesiastical with all it's sub variants (italianized, anglicized etc). Since Goths had so many different non Germanic allies (Slavs and non Slavs) it is only logical that they used Gothic with their own accent... Hope this helps :).

    • @blacksea-caspiansea9504
      @blacksea-caspiansea9504 2 роки тому

      @@Wulthus Thank you so much for explanation, so the real pronunciation is not known neither for Ænglisc nor for Guthiska Razda.

    • @Wulthus
      @Wulthus  2 роки тому +2

      @@blacksea-caspiansea9504 Well, since AEnglisc was spoken until 12th century it is perhaps easier to guess what it sounded like, it is easier to reconstruct the pronunciation, but to know for sure, 100% is a bit of a gamble in my humble oppinion. But AEnglisc or the language of the old Anglo Saxons influenced and was influenced by Gothic language before the Saxons invaded Britain. It was then that Saxons and Goths lived as neighbours, then Goths moved to the area around the Black Sea (in Ukraine where today is war between Russia and Ukraine). Besides, as I said both are germanic languages. The same thing goes for different Slavic languages as well... However, I personally see all these old languages as a window into the past. One step closer to the old gods and the most distant ancestors that gave us this language, our blood and who we really are.

      Interesting. Goths were Slavs before Slavs even formed, they spoke Germanic language, instead of Slavic, had Germanic names instead of Slavic, had Germanic myths and customs etc ... amazing insight! Congratulations!
      Besides Sabazios (not Sabazias) was sky father/horseman of the Phrygians and Thracians, who were neither Slavs nor Goths.
