This man is out here doing the Lord’s work. 10 years later this information is still helping the public save a bunch of money and empowering us to DIY these minor issues. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!
This video and the comments saved me hundreds of $$$. I was about to give up and call for repair after the first two steps didn't work when I saw the 3rd suggestion about tightening the screws. They didn't even seem that loose but after tightening it started working again! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks so much for making this video Richard! Popping out the lid helped for a while, but months later I needed to use a *3rd suggestion* from Michael Hogue below. He found that tightening the 2 phillip's screws on the left side of lid near the hinge fixed the problem. So I tightened those 2 screws on the left side of my lid, and lid switch worked again! Back in business! Hooray!!!
Thank you so much! I fixed my mom's washer with a bang to the lid just like you demonstrated. So relieved it worked because the washer was already filled with laundry and water! I'm aware this is an old video, but just wanted you to know that it is still very relevant!
I can't believe, i watched the video and fixed my washer in less than 5 minutes! i also noticed the screws that hold the hinge arm to the door were loose. I've been slamming the door to get it to work for the longest time, until that stopped working. thanks for sharing the great advice!
Hi Richard ! Since you mentioned in your clip that you like hearing from people everywhere, well here's a friendly shout out to you from Gatineau Quebec, Canada !!! I can't thank you enough for making this video which clearly, has saved me a ton of money for a repair call. Your simple DYI switch fix worked exactly as you outlined in your video on my Kenmore 80 series. I worked the under pin gently and gradually a few times not to over bend it and when I closed the lid it on the third try, I started hearing the clicking sound. I then switched the selection controller to Spin and BINGO, the washing machine came alive again. So again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise, which after all these years later, is still having a positive and far reaching effect !! Many sincere thanks !! SRIII
This video saved my laundry! I have been pouring over UA-cam videos trying to learn how to replace a lid switch, only to find out I was looking at the wrong type of lid switch. This is my exact machine, and this fix was waaaaaaaay easier than any of the other rigamarole I saw. Thank you so much for making this video!!!!
Omg! thank u Richard I have the identical washer that stopped spinning yesterday and I checked UA-cam and found this video. I first prayed that this would work so I wouldn’t have to call a repairman, I got down to business this morning and low and behold I watched your video and fixed the problem washer is now draining and spinning whoohooo! Thank u RICHARD!🎉👍🏽🙂
Thank you for posting this video 7+ years ago! It just saved me from spending $500+ on a new washer! All I needed to do was tighten the two screws on the left side of the lid!
Thank you Michael. As you stated, I tightened the 2 phillips screws on the left side of the lid (near hinge), and the switch immediately worked and motor turned on. With my load of laundry now being washed, I'm a happy camper!
It worked!!! I've been dealing with the washer not starting after filling up for 2 months, refusing to buy another one! This video saved me a lot of money. It literally was fixed in 8 seconds!! Thanks
Well!... I must admit, this saved me time and money! I watched it, did as u said, and it didn’t work. I pushed the little lever back, but apparently not hard enough. So I spent the next hr watching video after video that were truly useless to my style of washer, and when I finally gave up hope and thought about taking it apart, I rewatched ur video and did as u said except w a stronger push this time on the lever under the door and sure enough, plugged it back in and BOOM!!! It started working! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!! U got my wife off my back and most importantly, we are leaving for vacation in the morning and all my kiddos were staying here at home w my mother inlaw, so that saves a HUGE headache!!!!!
Blessings to you. My washer stopped and I prayed for a cheap solution. Up popped your video. My machine was a different make and model, but because you had mentioned the lid switch, I found something that looked like that, jiggled it, and BOOM -- back to work. Thank you SO much!
This video was super helpful on letting me know I needed to fix my lid switch. Thank you again for answering my phone call all the way from South Carolina in knowing how to open the top part of my washer so my dad and I could fix my lid switch. My 16 year old washer is running like new now🎉. THANKS AGAIN ☺️
Thank you so much for the video. My lid switch has being weird for years - had to always push on the lid to get it working. Yesterday even pushing on the lid stopped working. I called around and was looking at hundreds of dollars to fix it. I used both suggestions in your video and now with just a little push on the lid it catches and works. I can't thank you enough! May God bless you and your family for taking care of people around you.
So if I hear the click but it’s really quiet then it should still be good? Can you push too far back on that hinge? Is it possible that you have to pull it back forward? And where can you find the other link to show how to replace the lid switch under the top part of the washer?
Wow. It was the lid. I have this same model and have been concerned with it just randomly stopping! Hahahaha. I noticed my lid was bent in, I popped it out, started working again immediately. Wow. Saved me money and time. Thank you!
Thank you so much. Was worried I would have to tear my Kenmore washing machine apart to find a hidden fuse (just like I did for the dryer last year). Saved me hours of headache, and the cost of a repair man. Thanks Buddy!!!! Brad
YOU are AWESOME!!!! I watched about every video about washers that do not drain to troubleshoot my machine. Then I realized, my washer does not have a hole to test lid switch. Your video popped out, and now, having not used any tool, it is fixed! I cannot thank you enough!
What did you do to make it work? This is pretty old, but I'm finding that the lid switch makes a noise if I press on it manually, but it won't click when I put the lid down
Seriously....I am trying to figure out why our washer will not spin, but I came across this video and the first minute fixed my problem of the switch not engaging. I just popped our lid out...I can't believe how easy that was. THANK YOU!!
Thanks man . I,ve watched to many videos on switches & your the only one i found yet who told me about that type of switch & thats the way mine is . Thanks i might end up calling you too lol .
YOU ARE THE MANNNN!!! its thanksgiving. My clothes are hanging out in a full tub of water and i have to finish laundry before family shows up. Fixed my problem!!! Thanks!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! After spending the last hour watching videos telling me to take apart my washing machine -- I watched your video, popped the lid, and IT WORKS! Thank you!
Did you have a problem about it clicking? I'm still having trouble with my problem. It seems like the lid switch clicks if I click it manually, but not when I put the lid down. Any advice?
Fantastic! I was set to call the repairman. My washer and dryer had been in storage for a while and something heavy had been stacked on the washer, and the lid was pushed in. Thank you....thank you!
Thank you so much for your help. I did all that you asked and it didn't help. But then I slammed the washer door in anger because I was so frustrated, and whattya know....It started working. I really appreciate your channel and free advice.
Thank you! I have a similar model that doesn't have the lid switch on the side or front. NO OTHER UA-cam VIDEOS SHOWED THIS TYPE. All I had to do was pop the lid, so easy! Thank you. It was just moved yesterday and probably got bent during it.
Thank you Sir! Alot of videos about the same issue are bypassing the sensor or completely changing it. I think they are also having the same issue, I didn't;t notice that my washer was pushed in as well. Glad I came along to see your video. I was about to take it apart to replace the sensor too, like the other videos showed. Thanks again!
Amazing - all it took was a good fist to the lid and now it works fine. In a million years I would have not thought that something so simple would fix it - thanks so much for saving me a lot of time and $$$
Thank you very much for this video, problem fixed and washer working in less than 5 minutes after watching this video. You saved me a $200 service call!
Richard, I have a kenmore 300 machine. I have seen many agitator repair videos where the machine is working while the lid is up. How do you get the machine to run while the lid is up for observational purposes?
You just saved me! I watched several other videos that didn't help and then came across yours. Thank you so much!! I am close to you so I'll be saving your info!!
Thanks for posting this! After I saw this I checked the switch and it was missing a screw so was loose and also had a popped in lid. Made my day when I heard it click again.
1 year later same thing happened. Came back to this video and his tip worked. Love this guy!!!! I lived in the d.c. area, wish I had an appliance guy out here that would give me free advice 😂😂😂😀😀😀
Awesome video! My washer is working again. Thanks for showing where the inside switch is. I was able to reach under the lid and click the hinge. We’ve been slamming the lid the past few months to get it to turn on, and today that wasn’t working. Saw your video and figured out the problem! Thank you!
Thanks Richard, my washer just stopped on me and was not spining nor agitating nor putting out the water. I did exactly what you said and its working fine again. thanks you so much.
Thank you! My problem wasn’t the lid popping or hinge bending but the hinge being loose due to a lost fastener. Your video showed me enough to get the washer going again. Now I just have to find a way to fasten the hinge better. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just bought a kenmore 500 series used - and it was randomingly working. Once it started agitating after filling - if I lifted the lid - and put it down again - it would not start agitating again. Real pain. Then after resetting the cycle like 5 times -it started. Sure enough, someone had sat on it - lid was pushed down - I popped out the lid - bingo! it started working every time after opening and closing the lid. Thanks for sharing this tip.
Had to reply.. been messing with this washer forever and now I know where the hinge is and it just needed a little bending like you said. Thank you thank you👍
Excellent video, thank you. I had the same symptoms, which at first I didn't realize was the lid switch. Once I figured out it was related to this, I found I could jiggle the lid sometimes and it would work. But today, I noticed that the screws on the left side of the hinge, attaching it to the lid were quite loose. I tightened them, and the problem seems to be fixed! Just thought I'd add this to the list of things to look for.
HEY, Richard! Thanks so much for your help! You saved me time and money! My daughter is so happy to have clean underwear again, the wife thinks I'm a God, and my sons will finally start doing chores again (gotta build that character--these ones came out of the oven a little raw). Appreciate your channel, stay golden! GO COWBOYS!
Thank you So very much! You ROCK! Saved me money and the total aggravation of figuring out what to do next. You were very informative and appreciate your "know how"! Wonderful tips. I recommend this channel. Did I say thank you? THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you sooooo much! I was getting so frustrated with my machine. I opened the lid, popped it back out like you showed on the video and bam! it worked.
This is the video that worked for me. Yes, I sat on the lid and caved it in. Now after maybe 10 years, it will not stay popped out. The second I stop pushing out, it pops back into the caved in position. So I put my thumb on that metal piece and pushed back. Didn't think I was getting anywhere, but sure enough when I shut the lid, I heard the click for the first time in decades. Too bad I didn't see this video a decade ago. What I've been doing is putting the lid down and then pounding the lid in that rear-left corner to get the machine to agitate.
Great video. Had the same problem. Was going to replace the switch but after watching your video I bent the lever and the switch started to work. Thank you so much.
My problem was similar to Mike Molloy's, but one of the screws was broken and half of it was stuck in the hinge piece. I ended up having to drill out the stuck half and used one size larger of a screw to replace it (#8 vs #6 I believe). The switch now activates (clicks) just as the lid is going fully closed, without having to hit the lid to activate the switch. Checking the hinge screws is a very good idea.
Hi. Do you have a video showing how you remove that top control panel ? I removed 2 screws on back n tried to pop the control panel sides but it wont pop off. My machine looks just like that one. Thx
Thx richard it worked. popped the lid and pushed the switch forward and it worked off and on. One thing people might check are the two screws in the lid that hold the hinge. mine were loose, pushed it back a little and tightened and bam! fixed. thx bro (greg from san bernardino)!!!
I just tried it having nothing to lose and I guess I was trying to push the wrong thing as it didnt move at all but then felt around and voila found something that did work! Thanks.
Can you please let me know what you did in details, I'm having much much trouble with mine. I know it's the lid switch bc everything else works fine, except the clicking noise. It makes a clicking noise if I do it by hand though. Thanks
Cinema I took a grilling spatula (long and thin) and slid it under the left side of the top portion with the controls. If that doesn’t work, try letting the top slam after it fills. That’s what I do now; works every time. I hope that helps!
This man is out here doing the Lord’s work. 10 years later this information is still helping the public save a bunch of money and empowering us to DIY these minor issues. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!
I need the second part of this video lol Your the only person I've found showing me this kind of lid switch and I'm having issues with one myself.
7 years after posting this video, you still helping people!! Thank You.

Do u have a video of how to remove the front panel ? Thanks for this great post
Your the man! Was about to buy a new washer until I came across this video. Worked like a charm! I appreciate you making this video.
100% whacking the lid worked! Best 3:50 I've spent on youtube!!
So if I hear the click but it’s really quiet then it should still be good? Can you push too far back on that hinge? Is it possible that you have to pull it back forward? And where can you find the other link to show how to replace the lid switch under the top part of the washer?
WOW!!! Best Do it yourself video. Just hit the lid and the switch came back on ..
THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU!!!
Richard, thank you! I was about to disassemble my washer to replace the lid switch, but first tried you trick. Viola! You save me time and money.

Thank you for this helpful video! I was so frustrated trying to diagnose my washer issue, but your guide was spot on.
You just saved me $89 by watching this video, thank you sooo much

Thanks Richard nice to see someone willing to give quality advice.
OMG!!! You are a lifesaver. I just fixed my washer because of hitting the lid. You're the greatest.
Do you have that other video on how to remove the top to replace the lid switch?
you are a god send! tried your simple technique of popping the lid switch back a bit and my washer started working. thank you so much!
You just saved me so much time and effort! Amazing
I thought I was going to have to buy a new washing machine but your lid switch video worked like magic. Thank you very much.
Thanks so much. Really. No one else talks about hinge switches. I was mystified. Thanks again.
Did you have a problem about it clicking? I'm still having trouble with my problem. It seems like the lid switch clicks if I click it manually, but not when I put the lid down. Any advice?

Awesome video! My washer is working again. Thanks for showing where the inside switch is. I was able to reach under the lid and click the hinge. We’ve been slamming the lid the past few months to get it to turn on, and today that wasn’t working. Saw your video and figured out the problem! Thank you!
What exactly does "clicking the hinge" mean? I'm having trouble and can't seem to find my simple problem.
Greetings do you have to remove any back panel screws before lifting lid???
Thanks Richard, my washer just stopped on me and was not spining nor agitating nor putting out the water. I did exactly what you said and its working fine again. thanks you so much.

GO COWBOYS!
This was great advice. It was point on for my sister's washing machine problem. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for posting this video. With your help my washing machine is now working again ❤️
Thank you Richard, had trouble finding the right washer machine. Gonna give it a go!
Good Day Richard, Have you uploaded the video to remove the front panel?
Thank you So very much! You ROCK! Saved me money and the total aggravation of figuring out what to do next. You were very informative and appreciate your "know how"! Wonderful tips. I recommend this channel. Did I say thank you? THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you sooooo much! I was getting so frustrated with my machine. I opened the lid, popped it back out like you showed on the video and bam! it worked.
You just fixed my machine by me hitting the inside of the lid! Your awesome!
Bending the metal rod worked like a charm, THANKS!!!
Wow! I just fixed my Kenmore washer in three seconds for free! You rock.
Please let me know what you did, thank you
This is the video that worked for me.
This worked. Saved me time and money. Thank you!
Great advice for an easy fix. Save me a ton of money, wife ready to get a new washer. Thanks
Where’s the 2nd video?
Thank you, Greg!!! Your suggestion --- tightening the 2 screws on the hinge --- worked!
Your welcome Margaret. Our machine is still going strong.
I just tried it having nothing to lose and I guess I was trying to push the wrong thing as it didnt move at all but then felt around and voila found something that did work! Thanks.
Battling my washer for a few weeks. Excellent fix! Thanks.
Richard your a beast!! This mom's back in business! thank You Sir you saved me $50 and a headache.
Can you send the model #.l bought mine used from side of the road appliance store not knowing it hade no model #.Thanks
10 year old video ftw!!
Man you rock I did just like you said pop up the lid then gave the hinge a lil push a my washer came back to life and saved day
can I reach in there and try these with it still full of water?
lid switch does clic but no draining etc...could it still be the lid switch? I did all the video said to. thanks!
God bless you ! I was ready to tear it down and change the switch. My wife thanks you, my kids thank you !
Do you still do home repairs? You fixed my late moms washer.
My husband was going to call the appliance repairman, I watched your video and fixed my machine without one single tool. THANK YOU!💐
Can you please let me know what you did in details, I'm having much much trouble with mine.
My old Whirlpool is back in business! Thank you so much! I watched some other You tubes but I didn't want to get into the control panel.
Hey Richard ..mines keep cutting.off and on by itself ..or trying to run even if i didn't pull the start knob
Are you still in hemet ?
