Sick, Colin! Your guitar tone is so money too.
Thanks Barry!
When you say you are playing B phrygian over Em, you are just playing E aeolian. It's great to play around the neck, but changing a position on the neck doesn't change the fact that it's still E aeolian, right? Then you play in G major. G major or E aeolian don't have starting notes-they kind of extend in any direction.
Kind of, but in reality we are starting/thinking of the specific Phrygian guitar fretboard mode position/shape to break away from playing in the aeolian or Ionian mode shape. But yeah all modes are just a linear transformation/moving the wheel/robbing Peter to pay Paul/six to one half a dozen to another kind of phenomenon. Like you’re saying and I said in the video, the tonal center is e minor or g major. I specifically said b Phrygian is not the tonal center here.
They definitely extend in either direction. From my understanding the key is E minor - you can play anything over E minor. Much like when you go to the 5 chord, you play a mixolydian mode. Natural minor is just a mode of a major scale in the same context, and vice versa
@@SeanMcQuilter_Musicthe point of the lesson here is guitar specific position playing. Again, the tonal center is not B Phrygian.
