Why would Alcaraz be sad, he won a silver medal at age 21 in impressive 6-7, 6-7 scores. Compared with Qinwen Zheng won women's singles with a gold medal with a fantastic score 6-2, 6-3...I find that Djokovic didn't play his best, just average and so late at age 37. Why didn't he win when he was 21?

Being a Carlos fan I selfishly wanted him to win the gold in straight, easy sets but after the loss I thought of the heartache that Nole has had to endure throughout the years striving for the gold. The heartbreaking losses and defeats at the Olympics over the years and knowing that this was more than likely his final chance to secure the gold it only seemed right that he got it in a competitive way. There are still a lot of records for him to chase. As you said Jimmy connors record for most titles (109) , most GS titles ( 25 ), Federer's most Wimbledon titles ( 8 ) / most US Open Titles ( 5 ), quadruple career grand slam next year at RG, Triple career masters if he can win Monte Carlo one more time, Maybe even extend his record for weeks at #1 although that's gonna be hard since he would need to win a lot of tournaments consistently. He might even be interested in winning the Davis cup for Serbia one more time. Him and the entire Serbian team were disappointed last year after the loss to Italy.

Just listened to Carlos’s interview on Eurosport. He thought he was great in the difficult parts but Novak was better in the tiebreaks.
I think Novak played an incredible match, at a very high level throughout and never seemed to dip in concentration.

As you said Jimmy connors record for most titles (109) , most GS titles ( 25 ), Federer's most Wimbledon titles ( 8 ) / most US Open Titles ( 5 ), quadruple career grand slam next year at RG, Triple career masters if he can win Monte Carlo one more time, Maybe even extend his record for weeks at #1 although that's gonna be hard since he would need to win a lot of tournaments consistently. He might even be interested in winning the Davis cup for Serbia one more time. Him and the entire Serbian team were disappointed last year after the loss to Italy.

Novak is truly the best player and earned the GOAT doubtlessly. Never write him off as he found the formula to outbeat Carlos after the devastating loss at Wimbledon. The US Open may be another thriller in the making...Both players are really playing at their best level and congratulations to them for a superb match...it was a very memorable event and opportunity to watch this match
IMO this is the greatest title of Novak's entire career taking into account the quality of his opponent Alcaraz, the age differnce between the two (his peers Rafa & Murray are nearly retiring at his age)
