Van is quite simply one of the greatest artists to ever live. From a singing perspective I think the most amazing aspect about him is that he is "uncopyable" if that's even a word. No one would be able to perfectly duplicate a Van song the way he sings it. It just so so personal and unique - unreal. Oh, and he's also a genius :)
Agreed, Van's voice is so emotive and expressive; it is like another musical instrument and would be hard to duplicate all his intonations and vocal range.
Oh, yes!! I have every studio album except one and 10 compilation and live albums. There is no one in music that can compare to him... Ever. Pure Genius and he continues to astound. Check out the two books he has published of his lyrics (poetry). They're just the tip of the iceberg, but you'll never be the same!
To me, it's also an incredibly spiritual song...Van's voice can take me into so many places. Not wanting to be morbid, but this will be played someday at my memorial service! It's freeing...
As a vocalist, Van Morrison is at the other end of the spectrum as Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, and in almost every since: VM is soulful, deeply personal, vulnerable and alone; Garcia was observational, detached, bemused and always embedded with backup singers in harmony. Not much similar in their music either. That you would compare the two suggests to me you haven't listened to or appreciated much music.
I've listened to "Brown Eyed Girl" some thousands of times and it sounds just as good now as it did the first time. Not many songs can meet that standard. "Moondance" has to be in the top 100 of all time. Van is the MAN!!!!
Nice reaction, Dani! Van the Man has an incredibly deep catalog. The hits are great, of course, but my fave tracks are the ones where he just closes his eyes and goes into a trance like stste and does ad lib stream of consciousness lyrics in that great celtic syle of his... Listen to the Lion, Almost Independence Day, Vanlose Stairway, In the Garden... there are a lot of them and they are spellbinding and hypnotic. I also highly recommed Astral Weeks (the song and the album).
I am always enthralled...from Them to Where Have All The Rebels Gone. I agree with his trance like state where he becomes the music. They call it "yarragh" - a cry of the heart and soul. Even his performance of Caravan in The Last Waltz is yarragh. You hear it in with Van more than any other singer artist I have ever heard. He speaks to my very soul...
The elusive term you're looking for is Celtic Soul. That's Van the Man. Excellent song choice, btw, I was surprised you started with this great classic, most start with the obvious earlier AM radio hits 'Brown Eyed Girl', 'Domino' or 'Moondance' which is more soft jazz in sound. This is a very deep well, you could do a lot worse than starting with his "The Best of Van Morrison" album, you may know some of those songs. There are a couple of tunes from when he was in the group Them, including the garage band classic 'Gloria' which Patti Smith covered. He plays saxophone in addition to other instruments. He's released 42 solo albums in the past 54 years and shows no sign of slowing down. Critics have their favorites but mine is the 1986 "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher" which Sinead O'Connor recommend in "Rolling Stone" magazine. I listened to her and never looked back, not a bad song on it.
Van is amazingly talented and a personal favorite. I'll be truly upset the day he leaves this earth. Check out "cleaning windows", one of my favorite songs of his.
A beautiful spiritual song. Try listening to the entire album, Into the Music. A great album to get you hooked into Van the Man, who now has released 50 albums.
Keep diving. My wife and I danced to this on our 25th wedding anniversary. We've seen him in concdert at the Hollywood Bowl and at the Chicago Theatre. Hoping to see him in Ireland in 2023.
Excellent! But like all of you Gen-Y and Z "spectators", yer about 50-years too late. I'm 70 now, and I was listening to Van back when I was 14. So just give it up already, get on back to Brittany Spears and American Idol, and leave the past to us who know what real talent, real heart, and real "quality" is. Bye now!
"Into the Mystic" is on Van's "Moondance" (1970) album, the follow-up to his seminal "Astral Weeks" (1968). The final lyric of the song "too late to stop now" was used as the title of his 1974 double live album "It's Too Late to Stop Now" recorded over a series of shows in 1973 and featuring his eleven-piece Caledonia Soul Orchestra. In 2016 an "It's Too Late to Stop Now" box set was released that includes volumes II, III and IV of that tour along with a DVD.
Van's number of recordings is long with much brilliance. I won't pretend to have heard all of his albums, but I can't conceive of any that would top his second, Astral Weeks, and his third, Moondance, which includes Into the Mystic. I've talked to a number of Van Morrison fans who hadn't even heard of Into the Mystic, which is still my favourite. Check out both of them and you can't go wrong.
Van Morrison has an amazing amount of great music! Modern music really pales in comparison to the best of a golden age. From the Beatles in the early 60s to the late 70s was a drug fueled race to see who could come up with something very new. Young lady, you have an exploration that will take you years to complete. You look like you would enjoy Joni Mitchell. "Help Me" is in the all time 100 greatest songs. Check her out!!!
Great reaction to a great singer who I was listening to his greatest hits album just the other day. You should check out his version of Have I Told You Lately, that song just melts me. And of course Brown Eyed Girl as well!!! There's a reason he's called Van The Man!!!
Van has never had a job in his life other than singer/songwriter/musician. He has been doing this for a living since was 15. He can sing rock like it's jazz. If God has a wallet there's a picture of Van in it.
Dani, picture your last year of high school. You have just lost your virginity to the person you will marry. It's 1970, 1 year after Woodstock. You make love, high, and Into The Mystic is on your radio, along with Like A Rolling Stone, and Closer To Home. OMG, I'm crying....
Thanks for reacts to Van Morrison. Morrison voice was lite and rough at the same time. The back music was amazing and with him voice, its all came together.
Around 2:39 I could see he had touched you and there was a reaction in your face to the touching, as you went inside to that loving and needing part of all of us that longs for liberation. The look on your face made me cry, sent me to that place too - and I've heard this song maybe 500 times. Who knows? Through you I just heard it for the first time, and I'm moved by the experience.
I love this song so much and Van does a wonderful job singing it. Take a listen to Johnny Rivers' version of this. Although Van wrote it, I prefer Johnny's version but that could be because Johnny's was the first version I heard. In the end it gives me goose bumps every time I hear it, no matter who sings it!
I’m glad you dug it, next for you Tupelo honey! And then more up-paced ‘caravan!’ Preferably from the last waltz documentary ( ‘the band’s farewell concert!)

I simply don’t get it. I don’t get why everyone love Van Morrison or thinks he’s an amazing singer. As a songwriter, that’s a different story, but I think his singing has always been pretty bad. I think you have a much better singing voice than he does!
Into the mystic simply beautiful, I am a blues rock man but I always loved Van Morrison. This song seems to me truly mystical an approach to a deep longing that transfers the mundane in a voyage beyond the cycle of days to a destination that promises rest and unification of two souls.
Great song for your first time but girl, Van the Man is a Royal Feast and you really need to dive in. Throw all caution to the wind. Start with Them..his band from the early 60's and just feast on the amazing lyrics, music and a voice that "rocks your gypsy soul'" with every, single song through over 50 years. If you are into passionate love songs, listen to "I'll be your lover, too" from His Band and The Street Choir. Dani, feel the Yarragh!
We aren't meant to read lyrics while listening, especially not the first time, especially not when the lyrics are filled with homophones and misspellings.
As soon as you pause you ruin the mood! You don't listen to music and stop it every two minutes to think about it, so don't do it when you're reacting! Bummer!
Besides Sir Van the Man being one of the greatest musicians and performers, he has an unbelievable repertoire. And after many hundreds of hours of listening to the hundreds of songs he’s written, I can say there isn’t a bad one I don’t like. And there are so many diamonds in the rough if you ever take a deep dive into his life’s work.
Van is quite simply one of the greatest artists to ever live. From a singing perspective I think the most amazing aspect about him is that he is "uncopyable" if that's even a word. You don't see a lot of people attempt "Tupelo Honey" at Karaoke.
Hey, didn't Bruce Springsteen try to copy him ? Lol
To me, it's also an incredibly spiritual song...Van's voice can take me into so many places. Not wanting to be morbid, but this will be played someday at my memorial service! It's freeing...
This song is perfect
Love that you were moved by certain lines

ELO - "Poor Boy (The Greenwood)" Live Remastered - Electric Light Orchestra redwood tree Van Morrison
This style just never appealed to me. Kind of reminds me The Grateful Dead, who I despise.
Gypsy Queen is a great Van song.
I will check it out!
It's reassuring to see young people appreciating someone We older people see as a musical treasure. Thanks Dani 😊
You need to check out Van's "Tupelo Honey." How a voice becomes an instrument. Gorgeous music and lyrics.
+1 on that
I've listened to "Brown Eyed Girl" some thousands of times and it sounds just as good now as it did the first time. Not many songs can meet that standard. "Moondance" has to be in the top 100 of all time. Van is the MAN!!!!
good shout. His performance with the Band and Caravan is Van at his best
I've been on a 25 year deep dive into Van's music...and he still blows me away. 😉
Hear ya, loud & clear. It's been 50+ years for me.
This is easily in my top 10 all time favorite songs. It’s a very big first dance song at weddings.
Anything Van does is worth listening to, especially Into The Mystic. It is so spiritual at its base, so uplifting, so...so...damn...great song!!
Nice reaction, Dani! Van the Man has an incredibly deep catalog. The hits are great, of course, but my fave tracks are the ones where he just closes his eyes and goes into a trance like stste and does ad lib stream of consciousness lyrics in that great celtic syle of his... If this song doesn't get you in the feels, then you're dead inside.
It doesn’t, because I don’t think Van Morrison is a very good singer.
Sheeeet. Van Morrison is, quite simply, the best singer songster!!!
"Van the Man"! Oh so many hits! Musical Legend!
This song speaks to the soul
That line about "your gyspy soul" stood out to me also. Great reaction!

There is nobody like Van Morrison. Nobody.
I love talented unique artists
Van is amazingly talented and a personal favorite. I'll be truly upset the day he leaves this earth. Check out "cleaning windows", one of my favorite songs of his.
👍 yup
Ancient Highway" w/Lyrics by Van Morrison a vocal tour de force
@OnceTheyNamedMeiWasnt Love Ancient Highway, but I missed Fear and Loathing - I'll go listen.
A beautiful spiritual song. Try listening to the entire album, Into the Music. A great album to get you hooked into Van the Man, who now has released 50 albums.
To my mind, "In the Garden" is his masterpiece. But this is a real contender. So beautiful!
Yes...agree !!!!!
@@bluevireo425 Absolutely, also love the live version!
Tupelo Honey, both in studoi and live are a must. Tupelo Honey live with Pee Wee Wilson is a great example of Van's style, which is quite unique.
Oh! Tupelo - where Elvis was from! I'll check them out! Thank you!
This song has been on my playlist since playlists were made by stacking LP's on turntables. First-generation high-fidelity!
Van Morrison is a legend great tracks are many examples “Tupelo honey” “caravan” “moondance” “someone like you” “have I told you lately” enjoy!
Master at work! Haters back up. Cant touch this

I love this song as well. What a great anniversary dance!! I have tickets to see him in Vegas in February!!
I cried hearing this ,then my spirit started writing and amazing ❤️❤️
That bass line is sick
Van the man is one of my top 3 male vocalists!

No fancy auto tune gadgets or studio tricks, nothing but good old fashion talent! 2 Thumbs up reaction!
Dani . I wish I was you and could hear Van for the first time all over again.
For me, this song is about going on the final journey with courage and dignity.
when my wife passed this song took on a whole new meaning and I felt like I'd heard it again for the first time.
The complexity of the instrumentation is so delightful.
Can the man has had dozens of great tunes like Tupelo Honey, Moondance, which is one of his best, Bright side of the Road!
Well you started out with one of his best songs. So many more to choose from. Keep it going
Van has music in his blood, in his bones, probably in his fingernails. That is earthy quality is what we called souls in the days before autotune :)
Oh he’s looking good beautiful and you pick the perfect songs much love

I love Van Morrison. ♥ This song kinda reminds me of "Dreams" by the Allman Brothers. They both sort of lull you into a tranquil state of mind.
Van is definitely the man!
Try Jackie Wilson Said , if you need a boost .
I love this song….
Back in the day baby when I wanted to get romantic with my girl Van was the man. Keep going! He's awesome.

Van has never had a job in his life other than singer/songwriter/musician. He has been doing this for a living since was 15. He can sing rock like it's jazz. If God has a wallet there's a picture of Van in it.
He was a window cleaner, hence the song 'Cleaning Windows'.

You are one rare bird, preferring Johnny Rivers over Van Morrison! Music is judged by your ears, and everybody's ears are unique!
Colin James did a nice rendition a few years ago - did it justice.
The Counting Crows get the closest to ever sounding like Van the man.. love them both ✌️🤗
I’m glad you dug it, next for you Tupelo honey! And then more up-paced ‘caravan!’ Preferably from the last waltz documentary ( ‘the band’s farewell concert!)
There are sp many Van songs that totally kill it with lyrics and music. It would be a long dive. Enjoy.

Those final lyrics should be "too early to stop now", as in it is criminally too early to stop such a beautiful song so soon.
It’s descriptive music, not unlike Ravel’s “Bolero”. If you know, you know
