- Bellingham urologist, Daniel Reznicek, describes how to remove your foley catheter at home.
Removing a catheter at home is easy.
Identify the balloon port seen in the video.
Simply cut just below the colored valve. Do not cut the part of the tube where it is only in one section.
After about 30 seconds the fluid will drain out and the catheter can be removed easily. - Наука та технологія
Thank you doctor! My dad's catheter was blocked by the dead tissues after prostate surgery. He was not able to pass urine and it was very painful to him. It happened in a midnight and I was clue less to do anything. Suddenly an idea came in my mind to check in youtube if there is any tutorial for removal of Foley catheter and I found your video at top. I immediately followed the procedure as described and it gave a great relief to my dad. Thanks a lot for posting this life saving video.🙏
Aj rat abhi ppa ko same ho rha he😭
Lucky Dad...thanks 2 u
My dad is the same and it breaks my heart it is in 6 months and it is infection after infection
Wow....Thank God for these UA-cam videos, and thank God you had the presence of mind (and resourcefulness) to even think to look for one!! I'm sure your dad was soooo grateful. Not being able to pass urine was - for me - perhaps the most painful experience of my life; mainly because of the amount of time it took for me to find relief. I'd just recently had the Rezum procedure and my prostate was swollen [from the procedure], when I took the catheter off I wasn't able to urinate for over 7hrs. The first three were extremely uncomfortable and worrisome, but the last 4hrs were truly harrowing. My wife drove me back to the urologist and they inserted another catheter and I was immediately relieved. Scary stuff. I had to have the 2nd catheter for six days - giving the prostate enough time for the inflammation to subside - and finally I was able to urinate on my own. The first 48hrs were difficult as I had to go almost every 30-40min, but things got better on the third day. Thank God I got past the challenges. I will surely never forget it.
super super ,very very excellent idea u r very greatest mind,
Thank you 🎉It saved me from driving across town to get it removed. Followed your instructions and it came out smooth.
Thank you
I just removed my bag Cathider myself.
All because of your video . Yhank you
Excellent. My catheter got clogged. Did not want to go to emergency room to have it removed and cant wait for my urologists' office to open. Was able to remove it simply after watching this video. Saved me some money. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you. My husband's foley was leaking and the hospital staff did not fix the issue. Your method worked like a charm.
Been inserting and removing Foley caths since 1969. Instructions by Dr. Raznicek made it look easy peasy! Blessings!
Thank you simple..you saved me money and a trip to the urologist..it was easier coming out than going in 😆
This was excellent information! My physician in the hospital does not remove catheters and neither does my primary care physician. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks for the video.Went to emergency where the catheter was put in. It stayed in until my appt with urologist 31 days later. Relieved when it came out!
I removed my urine bag today first i saw a video and they said removed water with syringe 💉 but I couldn’t get it then i was panicked and i pulled it and then I realised i have harmed myself and i was shouting in washroom then i search on UA-cam and found your video and you said 2 ways to take water out of tube “cut this small part” oh man
God send you as an angel for me
Bro, pulling of catheter does cause any harm to you? Please reply!
My MIL was released from hospital with a catheter. Today with only 2 hours notice we were told she would not be receiving visiting nursing services. Yes we can call an ambulance and have the hospital remove - however if I can save her the trauma of that in an emergency it is good to know it is that simple to remove. THANK YOU!
For folks who are visual learners, this is perfect!
Nice. I appreciate the video. My fiancee was about to make me take her to emergency. It's 11:12pm on Sunday night and im exhausted. She was overwhelmed with grief when she started to pull it out but it was hurting her and we didnt know why until we watched your video. Thank you! We used the back of syringe and pulled it out.
Thank you so much! I have been anxious about removing my husband's catheter. Very helpful!!
Thank you Doctor, I recently got the Rezum treatment formy prostate and I'm supposed to get the Foley out this Friday and I had no idea until now...thanks again!
Thank u so much. It's saved so much of discomfort and pain. Ur tutorial saved my day. Wish u abundant health and happiness in ur life.
Thank you for this. I may have to remove my catheter myself next week. I was looking for a little more clarity explaining the procedure. And this pretty much gave it to me.
Thx i removed it in secs , i feel like i m a doctor now 👍
Did it hurt
Thanks doc !!! was easy and very helpful.
Freedom day !! Thanks so much for the instructions. It saved me a trip to the doctor, and I was able to remove the foley easily and very fast.
Thank you so much. You saved me at least an extra day of irritation and discomfort. Peeing right as rain. So easy. I will have my GI look at it as he's my next appointment. But thank you again.
Can’t you at least try to be cooth enough to say”urinate?”🙄🙄🙄🙄
I am in the community too

May God richly blessed you all .. veteran
Thank You 🙏 for making something scary easy-peasy !!
Very helpful, thank you
Thank you doctor u save me from fear factor I thought I was going to be operated
Thanks I've used this information to remove my old man's catheter.❣
Thank you sir. This helped me tremendously. I had Rezum procedure 5 days ago and this video helped me in a good way. The catheter came right out.
Thank you this helped mi to.
Hello Gary...I had Rezum done on Tuesday. As I lay here at 2:41am on the morning of Friday I'm supposed to remove my catheter in a little over 3hrs (6:00am). I am a bit worried and hope that the balloon deflates easily....I was not given a syringe, instead we were told to cut the catheter the way this Dr. showed on the video.
I'm also very curious as to how you are doing a year after your Rezum!! I hope it's been a blessing to you. Wishing you the best
@@FedericoGPena I cut that line with sissors and it was easy to remove. Once the ball is deflated it is easy to pull out. I found out after I had had the procedure that I was not a good candicate for Rezum. I had a lot of trouble after the procedure in fact it made me worst. My doctor told me that my prostate was too large and he took a chance trying to do the Rezum. I ended up having to have traditional surgery after Rezum and now I am great. Wish you well.
@@garyhenderson8174 Thanks for the response Gary!! So I'm assuming you ended up doing the TERP? I removed the catheter this morning at around 6:20am and when I urinated it was not a steady flow. I know I need to wait a bit longer....
@@FedericoGPena Yes I did have the Terp and now I can urinate like I am a teenager all over again. After the Rezum procedure I could not urinate on my own and ended up in the Emergency Room after about 2 or 3 days after that procedure. Over the next couple of months I was having to have another catheter placed weekly.
Probably the worst time in my life. I just couldn’t urinate on my own
My doctor told me that he had done that procedure numerous times and had had a 98 percent success rate. I guess I fell in the other percentage.
I hope and pray for it to be successful for you.
Thanks for a very useful video.
I just had my catheter removed today. I strongly recommend you have a professional do that for you. The longer the catheter was inside of you, the more painful its removal will be. Mine stayed for 6 days. The ureter had healed quite well and the removal did sting for 2 seconds. The first pee was not painful and it had some blood clots. No incontinence on my first day. It's been a week since a had my prostatectomy and recovery is going well.
Prostatectomy is a special case. Thanks for bringing that up. We have all of our prostatectomy patients see their physician for catheter removal. Almost all other catheters we have patients remove themselves.

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!
Thank you for your help 🙏
Thanks for the info
Thanks for this!
Thank you so much 💕
I was ran over by a vehicle a couple months ago which resulted in many broken bones and a ruptured bladder which I needed a catheter for. last night I was having excruciating pain and trouble urinating and almost went to the E.R but decided to check UA-cam out first and I cannot thank you enough Doctor!
Thank you so much!
I just want to say thank you 😊
Thanks homie, I was worried about the syringe part and was able to snip it instead
Excellent outstanding thank you doctor God bless
You are a lifesaver! 🙏🏻
Thank you!
Great job.
I have my cath change under general due to bad placement bit just had Hickman line that's worse
Thank you very much
Thank you 😊.
Oooh it’s that easy. thanks doc!

Thank u so much doctor...
That was very interesting. I would never have thought of just cutting the tube to let the water out....so it would be easy for a person themselves to do it. What about putting an indwelling IN? Is that easy to do at home on your own?
Big help!🤙
Thanks you doctor
Thanks you sir
Excellent 👌
Thank you!!!!
feb 20 2023
it occurred to me just today that there might be a u-tube vid' on
how to remove a catheter. as i expect to be wearing one for many
months to come i want to learn how to do both moves : in and out.
this is the first vid' viewed. and it was well done. with the
priceless piece of info how one can just cut off the external baloon tip
port and let it drain.
mine has been in place since jan 17 , 33 days ago. and the ER nurse said
they treat 30 days as the time to replace / remove one.
no urologist yet so just plan go back to the local ER.
what i dont know is if for my condition , BPH , and now , urinary retention ,
a new catheter goes back in right away. or instead do we give the urethra some
time to show us if it can now pass urine ?
over the past month i have gotten used to measuring the volume of pea when
the leg bag is drained. this happens 6 or more times a day.
the vol. is max in the morning on waking. some 12 to 20 oz.
one morning this week it was only 6 oz. and that had me rattled.
i then spent a half hour downing a 1/2 L. bottle of Aqua Fina.
and , to my relief 8oz of pea flowed out by an hour later,
and 2 hours after that came another 10 oz.
its evening now and for the whole day the total is in the usual 40 to 60 oz range.
also weigh myself after the morning pea. and use these pea #'s to set a range of
what to expect. so for a no catheter period of time exceeding a day a weight
# > than the usual 126.x to 128.x will suggest retention. i'm 5'8" w/ a B MI of 19.x
and the most obvious indicator of urethra blockage will be small
pea volumes. these have been so for over 20 years now. since having
this condition be called b.p.h. one benefit to wearing this leg bag is not
having to find a place to pea. useful in town or on the road
Thank you so much sir..
cut and peed it out smooth as butter. Thanks doc
The tube is do thick! I've had for five years suprapubic and I've a size 16
Thanks alot
how to make catheter change less painful especially taking it out?
Two catheter changes in the same day
After a month of placement, my catheter became clogged. At midnight I had severe cramps and an attempt to unblock it with a larger syringe full of distilled water for flushing failed.
So I emptied the balloon with an empty smaller syringe and expected the catheter to come out by itself. But it didn't come out even when I pulled it. I pulled harder and the catheter stretched like a rubber band. Once before I already had an independent forced withdrawal of the catheter, with pain and bleeding of the prostate, but then there was no such elastic resistance of the catheter.
What to do?
I am 74 years old and have been wearing a catheter for 7 years and maintain and change it myself.
I knew the problem was mechanical - one half of the inside of the catheter was calcified with sand and the outside of the balloon had sand deposited so although deflated, the balloon would not penetrate the bladder sphincter.
So I took a piece of soft wire and. I pulled into the catheter tube and gradually turned it left and right. When I managed to get her two-thirds of the way up the catheter, I squeezed her firmly over the catheter tube and, regardless of the pain, pulled her out with the catheter. The balloon and the drainage holes were lined with sand.
I waited a few hours for the blood to drain from the penis and then inserted a new catheter.
I didn't fall asleep until around 8am and slept until 1pm
Then I went out on the footpath. to hit my 5km for the day.
And when I was about 2 kilometers in, I felt the balloon on the catheter burst, even though it was only filled with 10 milliliters of the recommended 30.
I turned back and walking home I could feel the edges of the protruding ruptured balloon cutting my prostate and urethra. In doing so, I peed in panties.
At home, the catheter had already come out by itself and there was new bleeding.
Then I put a new catheter and now I am calm.
Thanks! Could not remember instructions after surgery.
A patient is having partial dementia and due to hip surgery is now having attached to catheter. So now he keeps pulling it out every now and then. Is it possible that he may easily remove the catheter by pulling hard?
Please reply as it is getting very hard for us to keep a watch on him.. he just keeps pulling it out as he doesn't remember he went through a surgery
Thanq u soooo much nice vidio
Thank you so very much. I now know for certain that I went to the wrong urologist.

I feel so much pressure and pain with my catheter. I got one today after a quick prostate surgery. I begged to have it removed but the Dr. said no. Is the pain and discomfort normal? It's been 11 hours on an eternity.
Thank u so much.
I could remove Foley catheter of my bedridden father in law
I want to cut it help me
My friend woke up in hospital and pulled his out, balloon and all...🤣☠️
.
At least he should be able to pee great. 😂😂😂
Ended up doing this right now, thanks for your help! I came home from the ER shortly ago & kept having the urge to urinate and the pee was NOT going down the tube past the release valve & was blocked at the catheter right at the tip of my penis.
The entire reason I got a catheter in the 1st place (and ER visit) was due to an intrathecal morphine injection I got in my spinal root canal earlier in the day that was causing me to not urinate (I’m only assuming). I’m scheduled to see a urologist in the morning, but this catheter issue couldn’t wait til then & I didn’t want to go back to ER again. I’m hoping my urinating issue goes away & was just a reaction to the intrathecal morphine injection? I’ll update & edit my comment after I see the urologist in about 5 - 6 hours.
It’s a shame because I have degenerative disc disease & have had multiple spinal surgeries in the past that hasn’t helped. But as soon as I got this intrathecal morphine injection in my spinal canal, it’s the 1st time I’ve been PAIN FREE in years! But unfortunately I’m having some kind of reaction… Good luck everyone & best of health! Again will update later on with more news, but wanted to personally thank this video author showing us how to do this!! Life saver!! I know he isn’t giving out medical advice & would prefer professional medical help in everyone’s case; but I just couldn’t wait to take this thing out!
Pulls out easily??? like how... slowly?
I had to go to the clinic...I was crying it was so painful.
Now why would you do that without showing close-ups
is the removal of catheter is as much painful as it was during its insertion?
I have a suprapubic catheter and it hurts to put in and take out
I didn't feel anything when they removed mine
4 times. No pain during catheter removal.
I was having some question know I will see I Fear alot
It is not at all painful during removal.
The dr is cute :)
The nurse just pulled it out as fast as possible and it was excruciatingly painful and it stung very badly afterwards. Is this normal?
Revenge of the feminists?
See yt video on catheter sizes. 14 is smallest for men. The larger 16&18 are more uncomfortable in daily use. They are color coded.
Nurses don't have the time or patience to slowly and gently remove your catheter.@@robinpclarke That's why you do it yourself. These aren't the sweet and nice, fake TV nurses . I had a liberal , man hating, San Francisco nurse one time . Wait until you have one of those assigned to you. Then you will know the meaning of pain.
Thank you so much for your response, What is the legend for color code for the size?
Taking my dog to the ranch
Is it painful?
Yes little bit
"Pulls out easily" 😅😂
Is that how big the actual catheter is?😮😬
You look like indian actor munna tripathi
I did it this morning myself. Nothing to it.
solulions to leaked catheter at tha back connected to kidney
Sometimes this doesn’t work!
