You could even have the grocery store do an 8 inch round and a 6 inch round and put a cake separator in between. Or get a wilton cake stand. The whole wedding cake and separator would be under $100.00. And then you could do cupcakes for $200.00.
It is simply unfathomable that they think people wouldn't be suspicious about a square piece of cake that was supposedly from a round one
Good for them! We had a free cake (my aunt bakes them out of her house), free dress (same aunt had a dress that was going to be a display when she was planning on opening a wedding cake store), free wedding venue (local park where I grew up), most of the decorations were free (leftovers from a cousins previous wedding). It can be done. Me and my husband spend about $2,500 and we will celebrate 13 years next may!
I’d be mad if I spent money to go to a wedding and they cheaped out on it. Especially if you’re flying in and getting hotel rooms and buying a new dress.
Wonder Wendy they save on the important things though... so it would bother you attend a wedding where the bride decided to go on a budget dress? that herflowers were hydrangeas instead of roses and that instead on spending 1.5 k on cake they spent 100$? they didn't mentioned that they ate hot dogs and that a friend was mc-ing and dj-ing the party...
You don't go to a wedding to be wined &dined at a fancy party, tho... it's not about YOU.. you go to witness/support/share in the love of your friend, or family member, get married - that's it. If you're going expecting/demanding more than that -it's better for all involved that u not go.
Now, if she demanded you wear a ridiculously expensive dress, &pay to get makeup &hair... or only registered at high-end places, etc... in a "rules for thee -not for me" situation -I get it.
They probably still had to pay a lot for the venue though. And your focus at a wedding should be getting to watch your loved ones marry the love of their life....

If money is the way you choose to measure love with, then I guess you'll never be happy with what you have and you'll always wish you had more. Congrats to them for choosing to measure love in moments and actual feelings towards each other and not what the next big gift or expensive thing is. Because marriage isnt just "One Big Day" and party. The party is easy and only a single day compared to the numerous amounts of days where you experience life with another being and experience every emotion. Its a lifetime of love. Not one day where you "have" to splurge on to be happy or memorable or even valid.
I agree with you 100% and yep there's no correlation between $$ spent on a wedding and the quality of that marriage (more money spent equals better, longer marriage). Not at all.

To this day, the most Beautiful wedding I've ever attended cost the bride and groom $1500 total. Had about 75 guests. Got married in their regular church, had the reception in the dining hall downstairs in the church
They did the sheet cake thing, asked several relatives to cook food in lieu of wedding gifts (food was delicious). Silk flowers, dresses were all very practical. Photographer was a family friend (pics were beautiful). Centerpieces and decorations were all done by the bride and a few of her friends. Her relative sang, dj was good and the pastor of the church married them. It can be done if you think a little out of the box and want to have a nice event/celebration without breaking the bank.

The benefit of Vegas is that they do every thing so you don't have to shop for a florist, minister, photographer, videographer or ceremony accessories. Plus some wedding packages include a 2-3 night stay.

We had a justice of the Peace, which just happened to be a good friend of the family. We had our wedding in the living room of our now house. Our cake was from Walmart, snacks too. My dress cost $75 at Savers. Fit perfectly. It was a beautiful wedding nonetheless. ❤❤🥂🙌 I'd do it all over again!
