Hi Mel. I love Hamburger Pie!!!! Sorry I have been MIA. Long story short. I finally found out why I couldn't walk. Was rushed to Tampa General Hospital for emergency spine surgery. I am now walking without the pain I was in before. I should be back on my feet before long. I love these recipes. Quick and easy.
I know I say this all the time but I look forward to Sunday nights before I go to bed so I can enjoy your videos. They are always one of my favorites. I'm not sure I mentioned on your last one but when I hear those dinner prayers, ohhh they melt my heart and remind me of the days when I had my Daddy and grandpa to pray. Touches my heart. I can't wait to try some of these recipes. I used to make a recipe with hamburger and onion cooked on the bottom layer, cream corn and cheese layered on the next one and then topped with jiffy. It was always so good. Thank you for the inspiration sweet friend!
My best kept secret for having green Bell pepper, and all the other colors, is to dice up the peppers and put them in zip lock bags. Toss the diced pepper into your freezer and always have that wonderful ingredient available on short notice. I do this with onions too. The really nice surprise is that the frozen vegetables are never crunchy in your recipe. If crunchy is what you want , use only fresh.
I love when the grocery store has these peppers on sale. I always stick up and freeze them. Cut for stuffed peppers, diced, or sliced. No matter how I'm going to use them I always have several bags in my freezer if fresh peppers, onions, tomatoes. Etc ..... ❤️🌹❤️
Grew up with Jiffy cake mixes back to the 70s. When parents were out for the weekend night at friends for cards or church event, and there weren't other snacks left, I would make a chocolate cake from a single Jiffy box in a single round cake pan. Eat it warm, no frosting out of the oven. 😊😊
Thanks for sharing that sweet memory. Back in the 70s, I discovered Jiffy Mix as a college student, hundreds of miles from home. Those little cake mixes were perfect for baking up in the dorm kitchen, and sharing with roomie, and maybe a friend or two. Happy times.
@@childofgod3675 Eventually I couldn't find the jiffy mix pizza dough, nor the Ragu brand. I ended up learning to make my own pizza dough. A friend suggested using the Joy of Cooking pizza dough recipe. After I moved from Texas to Michigan, I had to use a styrofoam box, warmed up with corn or rice bags, to raise the dough. Picnic cooler works, too. In Texas, for most of the year, I could put the dough in the garage, on top of the washer or dryer, to rise. The sun did the rest.
@@childofgod3675 The great thing about making pizza is that it's essentially a flatbread, and you don't have to worry if it puffs up enough. So it's much easier than a loaf of bread to make.
I remember, when I worked at AC Nielsen in chicago, back in 1953, shopping at Krogers and buying JIFFY. it cost 10 cents for a box then. Odd the things a person finds themselves reflecting on. Your video is real timely for me. I've been hankering some Johnny cake. My family used to stew raisins and serve the hot raisin sauce over the Johnny cake. Greetings from upstate New York .
I’ve been stocked up w about a dozen boxes of Jiffy mix in my pantry. So now I’m set to make each one of your recipes here. They all look so good! I especially like how you show what else you serve the dish with to make a complete meal. I just wish there was a “Mel” @ my house to do the cooking for me!😊
The hamburger pie reminds me of the tamale pie that was so popular back in the 1950s. I think it was on the back of the yellow corn meal box. My mom always made it and added a drained can of whole kernel corn and sliced black olives. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it... and I am now 72!!!!
My mom made that too! With the olives and corn too! She passed away 7 years ago and I haven’t thought about that recipe since I was in my 20’s. (I just turned 50, whoop whoop!) Thank you for the sweet and yummy memories, I’m going to add the ingredients to my next shopping list. God bless you all. My heart is full tonight….💜🙏🏼💕
I love that story about your first grade teacher and that you love the recipe because it came from her that's very sweet. I'm gonna give this one a try this week thank you.
Just found your channel. I keep Jiffy for food storage, but I have to dip into it sometimes because I get a Jiffy craving! When I was a poor grad student with a toddler, we'd have Jiffy with honey and butter on top as a cheap dessert. To make chili stretch, I'd put it over cornbread. It must have been okay, the 'toddler' is a dad with his own toddler now. New sub.
Mel, I'm not a very good cook but I love to make casserole dishes for supper. I started watching your videos a couple of months ago and just love everything I watch you fix. So far I've made one of your pasta bake dishes and really enjoyed it and from this video I made the chicken and cornbread casserole and my husband and I both liked it. The next thing I'm going to try is the sloppy joe cornbread bake and after that probably one of your chicken dishes. I retired about 2 1/2 years ago and before that my husband did most of the cooking during the week because he would get home 2 hours before me and start making something. I loved it because he would cook and I would clean up - - pretty good system. However, after I retired it became my job to cook full time, because he's still working, so I started cooking but as you know I quickly went through my normal recipes and was getting tired of repeating the same meals. I started turning to You Tube looking for new things to fix and low and behold I came upon your videos. What a game changer because you are constantly coming up with new ideas and not only that but I really enjoy watching you cook for your family and seeing y'all go on vacation and the adventures that your family has. Yum!! All look so good! You should try some cauliflower cornbread! Beware though, it’s super rich and not for those looking to lose weight 😂 just cook up 4 boxes of jiffy like normal, when it’s done, you break it all up in the pan with a fork. Add 1-2 sticks of butter (yup, here’s the richness lol) and mix up. Add steamed cauliflower, s&p and mix up again. Top with mozzarella cheese and bake until melted. It’s soooo good and creamy! Watch out, it’s addicting lol
You make me drool with those Hush Puppies we would go to Cherokee for R&R the guys (Army days) would fish for trout and the Hush Puppies were cooked in the same oil. They were so good this brought back a very wonderful memory.
YUM TO ALL OF EM! Thank u once again Mel for sharing simple, inexpensive, yummy recipes. I can't decide which I'll try first but they all are money savers & that's just an awesome plus! The hush puppies are made similar to Matzo Balls - u get a thicker dough when u let them rest and the eggs work thru the dough. Thank u again for these wonderful staple dinners! Sending u love from snowy Michigan! 🙋♀️✋💝🍽🍲
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel They are delish! Here's the simple recipe: 2 Tbsp Olive Oil or Chicken Schmaltz, 2 eggs, 5oz Cracker meal or Matzo (I want to try crushing other yummy crackers) Seasoning & LET REST IN FRIG for 20 mins-1 hour then form balls & drop into hot broth. My brother is orthodox but I believe the whole book of Galatians talks about NOT combining orthodoxy & grace VERY CLEARLY. I love freedom & grace in the Spirit, & wouldn't dare think of improving to or adding to salvation by simple faith. Hope u love the recipe - u see, it's very similar to ur hushpuppies! 🙋♀️💞

Hi there, just wanted to say, I love your accent, and if Ree Drummond, can have her own cooking show, so can you. Sending you much love.
Wow! They all look soo good and easy!!! Thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you for these great recipes. I love that you use simple, everyday ingredients.
That Hamburger Pie looks delicious, thank you for sharing. And by the way, I love your attitude, you are so sweet & friendly, & humble too. I love all your recipes.
They were so good this brought back a very wonderful memory.
i loved them all, the first one and the broccoli cornbread sounded yummy.
I’m a huge Jiffy fan to. I cannot wait to try these.
Wow! Thanks for the tip on doing a screen shot on recipe! I did that immediately! 😊
🙋♀️✋💝🍽🍲
Awh, thanks so much for your sweet words of encouragement Sandy, I appreciate you! Hope you love these all and I need to try the Matzo Balls!
Been watching your videos - love 'em. You have a natural talent and come across so sincere and sweet! And a great accent !

Me too! They are really close to home made pintos LOL Sometimes I will just heat them and add some water and they really taste like the real deal.
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel oh yes 🤗 so so good!!
I am really excited that I found your channel. Love me some jiffy cornbread. Can't wait to try the hushpuppy recipe.
I make a Mexican corn bread using jiffy mix. Make cornbread like directions, add 1 can whole kernel corn (drained), 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese and 1 tablespoon diced jalapeno. It is so good. I let it cool before I cut it.
That sounds delicious! Thanks so much for watching
I have that same recipe. It always disappears when I serve it.
I add 2 eggs instead of one. I like the difference that it makes.
Yes, in recent years the mix seems to be drier, so it does need the extra egg!
I love church cookbooks!
Ih what wonderful recipes, Mel! Great ideas, and great teaching to us! You make cooking sound relaxing, rather than the frantic panic I sometimes take to the kitchen. I especially can't wait to try the broccoli cornbread❣️
Well, how sweet 😊 Thank you so much for watching

I buy the BIG box of Jiffy mix! As I'm watching you do these recipes, I thought how good my spicy chili would taste over that cornbread as a variation on the sloppy Joe mix. All of these recipes are enticing and I want to try them....and I bet that broccoli cornbread side would be really good with some leftover rotisserie chicken mixed in.. I'm subscribing so I can easily find you again!

I had to laugh when you talked about mixing in the large measuring cup and how you would have done it in a pretty bowl normally for camera. I mix in my large measuring cup all the time and didn’t even notice till you pointed it out! I love how you always keep it real. And love your recipes!
