Illumination theory - Dream theater drum cover

- This cover’s purpose was two-fold:
1. To have fun while atempting to avoid error in a long single take record - so obviously, mistakes where made and recorded for self-improvement!
2. Practice those double strokes rolls and odd time transitions on a mirror image kit configuration - ie. frequently requiring to choke the left hihat with the right foot, and switching the lead bass drum foot to the left.
Sound isn’t great due to mixing over the original track (with drums).
Played from the album Dream theater [2013].
11:00 -11:43 the most epic moment, it feels like everything going to resolve, just around the corner. Very long fill and resembles every hardwork from the beginning of the song you put into gonna paid off. Good job, uncle. Salute and HUGE respect to your drumming.

Dream Theater é minha banda favorita principalmente pelo nível técnico dos músicos. Muita gente critica o Mike Mangini comparando-o com o Mike Portnoy (ambos estão entre os melhores do mundo, na minha opinião).

In the intro rhythm you need to have an open hi-hat and close it in between the crash and hi-hat hits. It’ll create a 16th note pattern, the crash being the 1, 2, 3’s, and 4’s. The hi-hat hits being all the “ands” (&), and the closing hi-hat being the e’s and a’s. Listen to the intro closely you’ll hear the 1 e & a 16th note pattern. I have to give you mad props because your cover has been the closest one to get that into right!

Love your drumming setup too. Initially I thought you were going for a similar setup as mangini, with identical toms on either side of the snare to do fills without crossing your arms, but then I just realized your toms are straight up out of order, forcing you to go back and forth to do your fills. I'm curious how you came up with that? Must be challenging!
Thanks! Toms here are very similar to Mangini’s typical set up (from center to each side, alternatively). The big difference lies in both rocket toms, having one in each side of the center tom tom. Came up with it due to lack of hardware (by then) to put them in a higher position. Thanks for pointing this out! Well spotted! 😊👍🏼 cheers.

Ouvir a música muitas vezes! ver a performance do baterista também ajuda (a aprendizagem por meio visual facilita o processo de decorar, muito mais do que apenas ouvir a música)
@@plsantana86 Eu faço isso, mas toco coisas mais simples como, por exemplo, Stones, Creedence, um pouco de Blues. Acho incrível ver bateristas como você que tocam musicas muito mais complexas e que têm um grande repertório de músicas "memorizadas". Um abraço!
