  • At Hackster, we know that learning new technologies and tools for use in the classroom can be time consuming and daunting for many teachers. To help with this, we have partnered with BBC micro:bit to create three short, informative video lessons that will give you the confidence to use the micro:bit in your classroom, without wasting time with extraneous details.

A very useful utube. Does anybody know the uptake of these devices in schools? I used BBC model Bs over 35 years ago to interface to sensors and electric motors and such as they were very easy to work with in such situations in school. Excellent educational thinking on the part of the original Acorn designers. IBM's were much more difficult to interface to and program with out extra software, hardware and literature, though I did manage it to some extent. Sadly when national curriculum came with, as it was then, all the students having to sit all the sciences perforce, I had to be timetabled back full time into my science teaching and all my hard work setting up my computer interfacing and programming courses went to waste.
Both students and I had a whale of a time, and I know some of them ended up in ITC jobs earning several times my salary with a fraction of my stress -- but I don't begrudge that!
Glad to see that we are making attempts to get such computing devices back into schools. I hope appropriate time in the curriculum is given to them.
