    Great job,
    I find a simple nuance is using the knee and foot position. When the knee is ahead of the foot (ankle) the front has weight. When the foot is ahead of the knee, the weight is rearward.
    This is a simple immediate and easy to gauge method. In the chunk and jank, estimating where the hips are versus the rear axle is harder than awareness of the knee and foot.
    Also the feeling of driving the bike through the bottom bracket(feet) with light touch on the handlebars helps keep positioning good.

    love this so much. wheelies are cool, but this is something that is way more useful on day to day riding. this is such a good explanation of the nuance that you experience while riding but don't necessarily understand "why" things feel different. Very well done!

      @AprilRideMTB  4 роки тому +9

      Thanks! Yeah I really wanted to do this one and have it as a reference point before doing more advanced lessons. But without understanding that big foundation of riding position nothing else really makes as much sense :)

      Kyle Warner - Mtb yeah this is fundamental stuff. I keep hearing guys talk about breaking the connection between you and the bike. Basically trying not to be so stiff on the bike and let it flow under you. I this this vid was touching on that, but would love to see an in depth guide to it.

Using scales was genius and a very cool perspective. weight shifts are also so important for riding faster too which many other tutorials don't stress about.

      Hey Richard I got the haha. But honestly I think that everybody should have a good foundation on riding a bike off road with no suspension at all. Unfortunately it's not a thing and not everybody's going to enjoy a BMX in their youth but I can honestly say that I got an early start and the progression has been fabulous. The equipment nowadays is amazing.
      I grew up in lake Tahoe and I've ridden all the most famous trails there and had a hand in building most of them I've ridden squaw valley top to bottom all day long on bikes with no suspension. The experience of that leads me to ride differently the most I'm sure and when I finally do get to a full suspension bike I'm sure I'll really enjoy it....... One day I'll grow up,,😁
      Hey and to be clear I'm not dissing anybody I guess I'm just so technologically starved because it has been so long since I was in the sport that I'm pretty damn happy with a Schwinn Walmart bike with basic discs and a big box shock....lol
      And yes I'm going to upgrade my new Schwinn just for fun before I move on to a real bike.

    Watched this video and then went for a ride on my favorite trail - I can't believe the difference having this body position made! The feel of my hands "floating" really clicked for me and made a huge difference in my balance. Great video and thanks!

    I cannot thank you enough for this video! The notes on body and especially heel position made today's ride a night and day experience. I was honestly considering retirement as I couldn't figure out why I felt so uneasy on my bike. Like a bad craftsman, I was blaming my new bike rather than my old school riding techniques. Your video brought back the thrill and control I was desperately missing for the past few weeks. I sincerely thank you and April for bringing back the magic to my favorite pastime.

    Thank for making all these awesome videos. I don’t know how I came across your channel but I’m so glad I found it. It makes me understand how little things like shifting your body weight on the bike make such a huge difference and can improve your riding technique. Wow!!! The scale under the front tire blew me away with the amount of weight shifted with such small movement. I’m 6’ tall 210lbs I bet I’m shifting 30+ pounds when I move my feet. ! Such a small detail I never thought of! Little details set you and what your doing apart!!
    In Your video on wheeling you show how shifting your head a little forward pushes front down. I didn’t realize how big a deal that is until I saw this video.
    👍🤙✌️😎😁
    Keep it up.

But I have been riding for 32 years and each of these training videos has either taught me something new or made me think about what I am doing more. They get me stoked for my next ride. This is probably the best MTB fundamentals video that I have seen in years. Really like how you argument why certain things are bad instead of saying "don't do it" and "do this because it's the best way". If you're not already doing MTB coaching, I think you should.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah i really try hard not to say "dont do this because its bad" because there are so many body types and riding styles and i am just trying to help people learn the reasons behind the style of riding that i learned which helped me win 3 national titles and podium in over 30 races in a row. I am not saying i'm the best rider or coach but I can definitely help people learn how to be more confident and safer on the bike all while going faster and having more control. Thanks for the comment!

    • @tuomoturunen6245
      @tuomoturunen6245 4 роки тому

      @@AprilRideMTB same here except I'm far far away from the podium :). You're correct about the fact that this isn't an exact science and body portions and bike geometries make small yet significant differences. I think people should learn first the neutral position and then start to shift the balance between the front and backend.
