I am teaching a class this coming fall and this has literally been so helpful and informative! Thank you for this and all the other videos you've done on Moodle--would be completely lost without them!!
Great video! Thank you! Question: I have been using Moodle with in person tutoring on a course I have just finished developing. I have now weighted the grades - but it does not seem to affect the already graded students. Is there a way to change the weighting for the in process students??
Great question. It should happen automatically when the CRON runs in the background. This can take some time depending on the server and when the task is set to run. It will not appear straight away though. Has it updated the weighting since you made the changes?
How would you deal with a learner in the gradebook who was absent and the grade doesn't count and the weighting must be recalculated per learner, not as a whole group.
Really good question. Currently, Moodle does not have the capacity to do this. I think most people setup a spreadsheet on the side to manage this type of scenario, then use grade override per student to show the actual final grades for students back in Moodle. Probably not the answer you needed but I don;t know of any other clever solution at this stage.
Hi I just subscribed. I have a question. Can I edit the Header I want to change the Word "Home" to "All Exams" in the header Bcs i only dedicated my moodle for Exam
Yes, you can. This is in the language file section. You will need to search for 'Home' in the language file. Then replace it with "All Exams" ua-cam.com/video/oOv_-6IpdZs/v-deo.html
It is a crazy world we live in…. And you are right, it does take a ridiculous amount of time to prepare and deliver when using any of the online platforms. What subjects do you teach? Is there any part of the online education world that makes you think - that is really cool and useful?
@@Ricoshae I've taught English and Creative Writing for 15 years at the undergrad level all over North America. I’ve found some basic online tools occasionally useful - mostly grade book stuff, which is still overly complicated, and online submissions can be handy. But still, give me a hard copy any day. Also, Blackboard and Moodle are always getting undated, like everything else: MS Word iPhones, etc. I hate the fact that every year I have to re-learn everything. These updates are there not to make the product better, but to make more money for the companies. It's called planned obsolescence. It’s the same with textbooks: every year there’s an updated version that makes last year’s version obsolete. Teaching should be simple. But it’s become a capitalist racket, and universities are now themselves, corporations. I'm moving to the woods.
@@ChurlsBeardSmug Very true. I am still amazed that with all the technology we have there are simple things that are missing from the online platforms. The driver for education online is definitely more focussed on where the money is than where the real needs are which is very sad. Too often I see great teachers forced to engage with tech instead of spending the time engaging with their the students. I would hope there is a balance in there somewhere...... Moving to the woods sounds like a great idea.

No problem at all. I am so pleased this was useful for you. Thank you.

@@Ricoshae Thanks for the reply Rocoshae! No. The weighting is still the same. 😕

Is there a way to add automatic zeros to assignments without doing an override?
Sorry. Not that I know of.

I hate Blackboard. I hate Moodle. It wastes more time than it saves. Makes me want to quit teaching.
