@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews I found this today. It has a great argument for the Byzantine Text. byzantinetext.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/editions-rp-11-appendix.pdf
Hi and God's blessings to your ministry! You may know that it has been shown by earlier well known scholars that the older the manuscript, the more corrupt it was found, because the copiers only used those agreeing with the majority of extant copies. These few Alexandrian copies did not undergo the reading and copying activities that the majority encountered and therefore did not ware out like the majority. Before approaching illegibility, the copiers would destroy their exemplars after copying for the last time, which answers to the reason for the vast latter copies.
Interesting Textus Receptus fails the Rev 22:19 test (says Book of life rather than tree of life) But my copy of Byzantine (Robinson/Pearpot) 2005 passes test - Tree of life. Hum interesting, I thought incorrectly they were the same or similar. I will have to watch the rest of your UA-cam videos on this. Thanks
They are very similar, but as you noted there are some differences. Most of the variation actually appears in the book of Revelation due to its complex transmission history.
I have not. The two I have are the 2005. I thought the apparatus was same the except for the updates to from the NA27 to the NA28. Are there any other updates?
@@FernandoSerna1654, I personally read primarily from the KJV. Although the NKJV is pretty good. If the Alexandrian text-type is preferred, the NASB is also good.
Thankyou for that clear explanation. If it was just the Byzantine and the Alexandrian text types it would be easy to understand. I start getting more confused when it then starts classifying Textus Receptus, majority text and critical text. Also is it true that when Erasmus put together the Textus Receptus he only used 6 manuscripts from the Byzantine texts?
Yes approximately that many. However, because of the uniformity of Byzantine manuscripts, the six that he had made a fairly good representation of the broader Byzantine tradition. There are about 1800 differences between the Textus Receptus and the Majority text. Mostly tiny differences. Half dozen or so are significant.
@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews Im getting better understanding thankyou. Lol, sorry for not getting it completely but can you answer one more question. I understand that critical text is what modern scholars go by but does that mean critical text only uses the Alexandrian or do they also use the Byzantine? I appreciate you taking your time with answering my messages
I think that more Christians should be aware of the Byzantine text type and the major change in the English Bible that has happened in the past 120 years or so. Christians are not told to sit back and believe everything that they are told. Regardless of what ye think about the various sources of text, ignorance shouldn't be the norm and thy research shouldn't be superficial. 1 Thessalonians 5,21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Acts 17,11 "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." 2 Timothy 4,3-4 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
I totally agree! In my estimation, this is a complicated issue and shouldn’t just brushed aside as a non-issue. It impacts thousands of scriptures in small ways, and a few in some big ways.
