    Stormin corbins cycling decks are so dope. Even if its combo centric the fact you're taking a lesser strength deck but making it fun and winnable is dope af.

    I agree with Corbin on the skill aspect of it, for example I think seeing storm decks go off is super sweet and watching the interactions between the cards are rad, but I myself wouldn’t try to build one anytime soon since I know that I’d probably take forever and barely accomplish anything in a ten minute turn

    Hella smooth first cast! Going to talk about these points with my 2 homies. We been playing in a pod of 3 since 2018 when we discovered EDH. We ended up so far at keeping our decks at a budget 250euros max, no instant win 2cards combos in order to reign in on power a bit.

    Just wanted to drop in, I usually comment every few episodes. Love this as a new series for the channel. Been cleaning the house and listening and it's a good time. You guys have a cool vibe. I generally run Optimally Themed decks. I find it the most fun because CEDH is just running these cards and you suck if you don’t. My two cents - Speed and Redundancy/Efficiency is usually what I say makes a deck the most powerful. Tutors and Fast Mana will make decks more consistent and thus more powerful. I want to counter a little bit of the discussion in power level in regards to "how good the commander helps determine the power level". Commanders that are essential for the deck to function are generally a detriment. Example would be something like Lara Croft, her first ability requires her to be out and attacking. If you build the deck around that mechanic - you will lose to removal. You just keep bouncing or destroying Lara, and that dude is chilling for the rest of the game. There are several commanders that can fit into this category. So I would add that when you want to do “the thing” make sure the commander helps but isn’t essential for the deck to win/function.

    Combo can feel bad to lose against because it just negates life. A lot of people learned magic where as when your life points hit 0 you lose the game and it is associated with combat damage a majority of the time. So when you hit zero via a burn spell or a combo/Win the game card it feels a little cheap. Combo also feels cheap because a lot of the time it comes out of nowhere. It isn't something you usually build to it is something you just find. Creatures you can see coming because they are on the board. I still like combo and a lot of my decks are durdle type decks with slow building combos, but a lot of people just get turned off by the game just suddenly being over.

    I see it like that: it's pretty hard to distinguish between levels, a power 7 and a 7,5 are very similar, there are no rules on how to classify the power level. I think if your intention is having fun with your playgroup, then adjusting your deck so your win ratio is 25% that will be fair to others in your playgroup plus if everyone in your group is doing the same thing you will hit the sweet spot where everyone is having fun. Correct me if I'm wrong 😊

    My pod just builds decks and plays. We use any card and playstyle that's legal cause no one is going to restrict each other on what they can or cannot play and it's great. I personally put restrictions on myself for building decks but that's it. Also my homie runs a Tom Saga deck and he uses Rule of Law and Rule of law type effects constantly since Tom builds up slowly. It's a pain but a great strategy ha

  • @NewSchoolPOKERstrat

    Easy answer; no holds barred/cedh at a $100 max budget.
    This is the way to play the game. No turn one wins, it’s hard to just jam 5 colors, synergy is king, most interesting deck building, and the games tend to last about 25-50 minutes.
    Super tuned proactive decks w commanders like Selvala or Kinnan can consistently threaten wins turn 4 occasionally you may see a lucky turn 3 but most games will last 5 to 7 action packed turns. Creature combat matters and decks like Winota or Yuriko can actually damage people to death but you can play a pirate tribal synergy driven layered combo deck like Malcolm Kediss if that’s your style (and it is mine)
    Best sub format imo, not close!

  • @NateFinch
    @NateFinch 4 місяці тому

    I like hearing about the deck building restrictions you have. I was excited to hear the only 3 cards $30-$100 rule, and then sad that it excludes fetches. I feel like "shocks and fetches" are a big deck quality gap between people that have a lot of money to spend on decks and those that don't. Most people I play with, even at my LGS don't have shocks and fetches. Or if they do, it's like one or two random ones. They're just so expensive to add on to a deck. They'd nearly double the cost of a lot of my decks (which tend to run around $120-170).

    I like the podcast. Got a little off track at times. I am not sure there was any conclusion on determining power level. Not everything can be a figment of our imagination. I agree that player skill is something that needs to be determined when figuring out an even pod.

    OG Dual lands don't win games. Consistent land drop and general ramping, along with card draw wins games. All assuming you have a built in wincon.

  • @nmglowden
    @nmglowden 4 місяці тому

    I think the largest reason why people don't like combo is because the only way to stop it is to run counters. Which means If you don't have blue or a few white cards you can't stop it. If you win with a finale of devastation, normally you had to build a board state which is a lot easier to combat then a two card combo.

    • @stormincorbyn
      @stormincorbyn 4 місяці тому +1

      Counters are not the only way to stop combos, but I see where you are coming from!

    • @nmglowden
      @nmglowden 4 місяці тому

      @@stormincorbyn of course not all combos but a lot of them. It severely limits you in how to interact with that type of deck if you are playing in a more casual way. For example, if I am playing in a pod and one is playing storm or combo then I have to kill them before they do that if I don't have a way to directly answer that combo which can lead to a feel bad because maybe they just durdled the whole time and I killed them but there isn't much other option for the group if they don't run those kinds of answers.
      CEDH bring it on all day every day. But I am probably biased as I have been playing for a while and just don't like playing blue. It's a feel bad for my play groups.
      Thank you for responding Corbyn
