    Don´t forget that at that time, people were doing videos while standing in front of a wall singing, just nothing and suddenly Mike comes with THIS. And also, there was no internet. You had to wait till they played it on tv. And kids were missing school to see the premiere of it on MTV. Even in the 90´s, when MJ released a video, it was on evening main news, like CNN, BBC news, not Entertainmen TV news. Back then there wasn´t this celebrity culture we have today, where you get regular "news" on celebrities.

      Jack Reacts yes! Michael's videos were an event- I remember rushing home to see the Bad video come on; Before Mtv, in the 1970s, music sales were in a slump then all of the sudden with music video record sales were exponentially higher . You should watch the making of thriller - its a 45 minute video you can watch on your own time ua-cam.com/video/rfsVWYzNE38/v-deo.html. and also watch CNN the 80s - the episode about Music but all the episodes are great

    fun facts: the guy at 5:55 sittin in front of michael to his left is Miko Brando. Marlon Brando's son and Michael Jackson's bodyguard. He also appears in Moonwalker when the little kids finish their BAD performance and Michael appears thru the smoke ... additionally, he also appears in the You Rock My World video. It's the guy speakin to the Boss in his office and noticing him about trouble downstairs ... that's acually fater and son playin right there, because the big guy is indeed Marlon Brando. Miko Brando is also the guy who jumped on Michael during his Pepsi accident and saved Michael. Another fun fact: The Rap in the end by Horror Film legend Vincent Price is considered one of the first raps ever recorded ...

    • @DCFCfanatic
      @DCFCfanatic 4 роки тому +2

      This is the video version. the original album version follows the same pattern as the radio edit. but obviously the radio edit is shorter in length. so it's lyrics, the chorus, lyrics again, then chorus, lyrics and then finally chorus again. Vincent Price's rap and laugh end it all the time. but in the video in order for the story to play out, they remixed it so the lyrics sections all play out back to back to back. then all the Vincent Price rap plays, followed by the chorus sections with the laughter at the very end. there was also another version that is very hard to find that features a longer intro with additional scary music and wolf howling. the music starts off slowly until the bass and drums kick in. the music sections between the lyrics and chorus are slightly longer. the woos and hoos that MJ sings are slightly different because they used different takes. The vincent Price rap features the middle section of lyrics that are not featured in the album, radio and video version. Vincent Price's laughter in the end is a different take. I have never found this version ever but they are available on one of the Special Editions of the Thriller album. There's also a mix on youtube that comes close to it as well.

Having a dad who was domineering with us large group of kids growing up in the rust belt. My dad's eyes were pale compared to his dark skin. Not as pale as Joe's. But when my dad became angry, his eyes flashed like the monster in the Thriller video. By the way, I grew up with four sisters. There was no escaping the Jackson Five in our household. I will ask one of my surviving sisters about this later.

    I was 16 yrs old (53 now) & can still remember the night of Dec. 2, 1983 when this video had its world premiere, almost 37 years ago now. I invited several friends over to my house for the big event. We were just hanging out & eagerly anticipating when MTV would air the video. There was so much hype generated prior to its release. We, as the rest of the world, were glued to the TV screen, feasting our eyes on this incredible 13 minute long production. It was more like a mini-movie, as music videos up to that point in MTV's early days, were usually less than 5 minutes long. A few years prior, John Landis had directed An American Werewolf in London, which Michael loved. So he asked John to collaborate & direct the music video for this song...
    Side note- One of those high school friends recently found me on Facebook & she told me that she still remembers that night as well, because she had to walk home (in the dark) after watching it. She was scared & hauled ass by RUNNING at top speed back to her house which was several blocks away from my place. MUAHAHAHA! Happy Halloween! :-D

    He loved the movie 'The American Werewolf', so he wanted to get the director. You should react to its behind the scenes as well. He was supposed to sing with the makeup on, but i do not remember properly, but they removed it because it was hard to move the mouth or so.

    I remember when this music video world premiered on MTV BET back in 1984 as a kid. The next day at school it was all everyone was talking about. We had never seen anything like it in music videos at that point. MTV was only 3 years old. This video upped the standard by which all others would be judged ever since. When Michael Jackson videos world premiered it was a worldwide event. Everyone stopped what they did to watch it be shown for the 1st time!! Michael & Prince are truly the G.O.A.T.'s!!!

    MJ always had high quality short films because he would have the top movie directors direct them plus he was a perfectionist. The make-up artist, Rick Baker, won an academy award for An American Werewolf in London. Random info- my sister used to work with Ola Ray’s Godmother and she gave me an autographed picture since I was such a huge MJ fan.

    I like that they delay the chorus as long as possible... it really helps to build up the tension - appropriate for a song called Thriller - before giving us the release that comes from the comfort of the chorus.

    Born in 70, so yeah 12 when Thriller came out, and in the winter of 82 i was mesmerized by the Thriller sleeve, i began replicating it for my school art competition. Over & over. I had the slidy slippers, could moonwalk beautifully in them, was practising his moves for years, but had to wait 4 years before Bad came out. Saw him live in 88 and 92 in concert in UK, he was the greatest entertainment act in the world, and i mean bigger than any actor (Sly, Arnie and Tom Cruise, yes 100 times bigger), to the extent that the world went hysterical. His manager died from stress due to the 88 tour. He was bigger then the Beatles were in 60s. My mom always said she got to see the 2 greatest acts live, Beatles and MJ and she has never wanted to see anyone that big since. I miss you MJ, you took the best of James Brown, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and even Shalamar, and gave us YOUR view of the world, and it was SO unique, so beautiful to watch.

    Firstly, I LOVED your facial expressions🤣🤣 Too hysterical. This video/movie is the BEST ever, and at that time, no one knew how to really capitalize on this new avenue. Michael showed them how it was done, and this has been the standard since! The making of Thriller is worth a watch. John Landis is a great director who did..."An American Werewolf in London" so he's familiar with the genre. I watched this back in the early days, so i enjoyed your reaction. Secondly, keep watching through the credits. The fun doesn't stop until it ends.

    The evil of the thriller!”
