Since I can't afford to do the 2k version of this list I've written a 1k version just wanted your thoughts, here is the 1k list Battalion HQ(229pts) HQ1- Fire Blade - Pulse Rifle , marker light, pulse bombs-42pts HQ2-Etheral-honour blade-45 pts HQ3- Commander XV85 Enforcer Battle Suit 3x CIB, ATS-142pts -warlord Troops-(420pts) Breacher Team 9x Fire Warriors 9xPhoton Grenades, 9x Pulse Blasters ,shasui-70ptsx2 Strike Team- 9x Fire Warriors 9x Photon Grenades,9x Pulse Rifles, shasui-70pts x4 Elites- 1x Firesight Marksman, Marker light-24pts Fast Attack- 1x10 PathFinders, Marker lights, pulse accelerator drone 88pts 1x8 mv4 Shield Drones-80Pts Heavy Support(140pts) 1x XV88 Broadside,2x High Yeild missile pods, 2x Smart Missile Systems- 140 Pts Tau sept Pure Tide engram Nuerochip
So if you give the commander 3 CIBs and an ATS the damage output is way higher than the fusion blasters. With 1 markerlight you can overcharge and then go to town. Wounding marines on 2s, and forcing them to take 5 ups, they’re almost guaranteed to die. Plus being D3 damage they’re perfect for killing termies and primaris. Then finally against larger targets the total potential damage output is 27 as opposed to the fusion blasters 18.
the problem isnt that they arent better. the CIB are byfar the best option for commanders. the problem is you cant put them on coldstar commanders which is where alot of your mobile firepower comes from, you can advance and light up almsot any target and get wounding on best of 2 dice, ignoring most armour. i find running melee relics or the viorla flamer (since the new FAQ vectored maneuvering thrusters arent as good) allows you to charge in and tie down there shooty units with your commanders and generally survive (t5 3+ save) possibly even killing a few (onager gauntlet is great for smushin tanks AND hq's) and stopping alot of shooting (commanders are gunna get shot off the table t1 anyways if possible, charging in reduces that or removes it if yuour cahrge is good)
Commander Stormstrike. Commander Surestrike. Commander Staticstrike. Commander Swiftstrike I'm thinking if he's with your back line creating a "Storm" of firepower Generating "Sure" shots when his units and himself are "Static" Giving a "Swift" end to his enemies.
Done. Also in comments section here! Corrected the T'au Commander...he does not have enough slots to take the Velocity Tracker...so I have 3 spare points:)
Your fireblade reasoning is wrong. The description of Volley Fire is "Models in UNITS within 6 inches" not "Models within 6 inches" so all of the models in the unit if the unit touches that buff bubble get the extra shot. Not just the models in the bubble.
I'm starting a Tau army and I'm new to the game and need some help with making my army. I'd gotten this battleforce box (T’au Empire - Starpulse Cadre , 2020) to help as to start and plan to get the start collection box soon. I'm using battle scribe as a baseline to help with points and want id would like to use but with everything going on at the moment can't really ask people for help other than online but a new person in the game would help more talking in person.
Thanks for going over your new list, there some nice ideas in there, and I think the list will do very well outside of completely optimised lists which you don't tend to have on your channel. I also appreciate you are limited, like all of us, by the models you have available. I'm interested to see how the breachers on foot do. I don't think they will do that well, and you would have been better with another 20 strike team members. Although I agree that kroot die very quickly I use 2 units of 10 kroot and a unit of 10 kroot hounds (same cost for my 30 models as your 20 breacher models). I like the pregame 7" move on the kroot, plus the speed of the kroot hounds. Sometimes you need a good screen and kroot give you the numbers, even if they die quick. With such an infantry horde I'd consider Darkstrider for another 2+ to hit markerlight and he allows those breachers and fire warriors to fall back out of combat and still shoot. Odd that you took the Riptide out, what for you meant that he didn't perform well enough to make the list ? I'm actually reconsidering Ghotkeels, but I think he would still perform as well in the harassing role if you swapped the 2 fusion guns for the much much cheaper burst cannons, a easy 26 points saved. Apart from the model, why not use a coldstar commander, 14 points for the extra movement can be extremely useful later in the game. You don't have to fly him off to his death early. My coldstar performs a similar job as your commander turn 1, however I sometimes use mont'ka to get my base up the field asap (fire warriors at 18", with the pulse accelerator drone, is nasty), plus c&c node on my full unit of missilesides helps them deal with heavier armour. Have you considered making another turret for the skyray and using as another hammerhead. Longstrike is ok with the railgun as he gets +1 to wound (monsters/vehicles), but I think the basic hammerheads should definitely have ion cannons. I would change the broadsides into 1 unit of 3 (they make better use of the command and control node stratagem, and then make a few tweaks (see the ghostkeel change above for starters) to change the 4th broadside into a 2nd hammerhead. Longstrike and 2 Ion Cannon Hammerheads will be a nice accurate firepower base sitting at 60" range. One you start using multiple ion cannon hammerheads, to offset when one gets a bad roll on the D6 shots I promise you you will not look back. You'll be making better use of Longstrike's buff and he can keep the iconic Railgun. Looking forward to seeing your new list in some battle reports. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I have high hopes for this list and look forward to taking on the IG and Ultras!:) Yeah Breachers on foot not ideal but come in handy at times as a counter unit. Yes riptide in its current loadout has had very little impact to dropped him and took the missile broadsides!:)
Good to see the Tau making a comeback. A rather interesting list, but I feel it fits with the Tau and might be what they need to win. As for my idea for a Commander: Meet Shas'O T'au Sio'ra or Commander Fortitude. Forge from the home world within the Tau Empire. Commander Fortitude has gain reputation for dealing with impossible odds while standing side by side with his brothers and sisters. Commander Fortitude does not hide at the back or waits for the perfect moment to strike from above. He bolsters those who follow his command and leads them to victory from the frontline.
I'm getting into 40k. How do you get the infantry in the same pose and weapons? Is there a way to order them in uniform pose/equipment? If so I haven't found it yet... Amazing build and paint job!
I really like your list , I just had one question is the commander allowed to take a signature system after he has taken 4 fusion blasters? I also modified your list a bit with taking only 3 fusion on the commander and going with a shield also I gave a shield to the ghostkeel for added protection . Then I had enough points left to take a guardian drone and one more shield drone on one of the strike teams for added protection. Oh and one more question who do you choose as the warlord and what warlord trait did you choose ?
Yes noticed that...I dropped the velocity tracker from the commander to make him legal. I take the commander as the warlord and use a mixture of traits. Recently been using 'a ghost who walks amoung us':)
I like your gun line a lot but think there are a few tweaks that would make it better First have you considered going double battalion rather than brigade And spliting septs move the tau for one nd either sacea or borkan for the other I personally run pure borkan for the range bonus as it allows you greater board control. However that's a personal choice with a big guys list. First 13 pts spare buy the ghostkeel a shield for 8pts and get a 4++ might last a bit longer I would reduce the size of your breachers teams to 5man and slip marker lights on shas'ui on fire warriors. Even snipers will not erode the marker light potential and give you the potential to have 2 units lit up (follow the next paragraph) 1 5 man unit if marker lights with pulse accelerator and grav inhibitor is 56 points that can both boost marker lights and range of your gunline 3 shot rapid at 18 not 15 and protect you from charges as the opponent has to close even closer I've littlerally caused 4inch charge to fail. This is really useful to you as you bunch up. On top of this you can make one of your drone units 6-8 allowing and the other 4-6 and give up fewer kill points (love the drone reserve drop by the way) Lastly I know every other comment says this but if you want to go tau Sept then please go shadow sun for double kanyon it's so worth while particularly when replacing a standard commander not a cold star Side comment the big guys are also pretty good I love the 280 heavyburst ats tl riptide with sms and the stormsurge is a total beast if built right and used right
@@StrikingScorpion82 Thanks - will definitely help. I bought the codex which is great but I've never actually played before. Can you recommend any good T'au painting guides as I sort of feel like I'm making it up as a I go along...!
Ok well best advice if you have not played is find someone that does play and get straight into a small simple game...easiest and quickest way to learn. Yes...Full Tau painting tutorial on the channel...and an In Depth Painting tutorial on the PLUS Channel:)
Me sad. Drone Harbringer is a PC only unit. 2 Drone Harbringers + 2 Hammerheads and Drones + Fire warriors, Pathfinder Team and Crisis Suits. Everyone ate dirt when they came at it. Now I cant replicate on table top.
Correct me if I am wrong but longstrike BS is 2+ (+1) because of the hammerhead keyword thing? so even if someone had a unit that was -1 to hit he will still hit on a 2.
Want to be "That guy?" Take Longstrike and 3 Hammerheads all with Ion in one corner and 2 Riptides with Heavy burst cannons, SMS, ATS and velocity trackers in the other. Shadowsun for double Kauyon and Command and control node. Also if you take a Sacea Outrider with the Cadre Fireblade and 3 Firesight Marksmen you get an extra command point and all your markerlights reroll to hit.
i have a question for anyone here, i recently picked up tau. in the accompanying drones rule it says " drones are treated of having the battlefield roll of the unit they accompany" does that mean for the sake of command points, supporting drones take up a slot? i can have 2 units of 5 breachers, 1 with a tactical drone, making that 3 troops? if so what does that mean for crisis battlesuits? each suit can take 2 drones. so for 3 suits with 2 drones each (6 drones), is that 2 squads or 4? (as in are the drones 1 supporting unit or 3 drone squads of 2)
thanks for the reply. one additional question, whats the point of the rule making them the same battlefield roll once they're on the table? whats the difference if theyre heavy / troop/ elite etc?
The point of the rule is because some objectives state “destroy (x role unit)” so if you bring a squad of drones with a troop choice, the drones are a troop choice so if your opponent has an objective that says “destroy 3 troops” then they can destroy those drones and it’ll count
thanks Steven Ayers and Jesse Madison im clearer on how tau works and what to look out for. also i love the warhammer community. it seems most people have the attitude of, a new player or a returning player is always a good thing.
MrDuckAlmighty just like every other group there’s people that don’t care to have new players, however I’m always down for new players and to see more Tau players especially, also if you need more help there are Facebook pages for Tau players where we throw ideas around and ask questions a lot, I do a lot of batrep summaries of my games at my local shop and stuff as well
aye. its rare at least where im with to find people into warhammer. we form groups but drama always kills it off.its a delicate thing. and being a returning player from 4th and 5th ed, ive never been more excited about warhammer. people at my club agree that its the time you return to warhammer is when youre most hooked.
@@StrikingScorpion82 the thing is I started to build my army according of video composition because it title was 8th edition and now you sayin it was 7th. Do you think that it might work in 8th as well tho?
@@StrikingScorpion82 So based on that video i decided to bouild army so do you honestly think that it might be good even now cos recently they released chapter approved when some of tau stuff went lower on points ??
@@StrikingScorpion82 And about chapter approved changes I can it change it quite a lot so maybe they will be room for some additional upgrades? What do you think.
lol one of the old lead ones...…… my space marine dreadnought is the old lead dreadnought I have to warn people against touching it for to long and when the poor brother was destroyed in hand to hand with a plastic model terminator my opponent jumped up laughing as he had finally destroyed it in combat as it had been his bain all game knocked the table and it fell over onto his model breaking the arms off
It reads "When a unit with this tenent uses their "For the greater good" ability, or when they fire Overwatch whist they are within 6 of a friendly sept unit"
Personally i think the Ghostkeel should take fusion collider, 2x fusion blaster, shield gen and target lock. A minus 2 to hit outside 6" with a 4+ invuln and a potential of 5 fusion shots is pretty scary for a lot of armies to face. You can even run 2 of them and keep them close to allow the 5+ overwatch except that does get expensive at 398pts for a pair.

Bor'kan sept plus a pulse accelerator drone in range pushes the range of a pulse rifle out to 42", then the volley fire ability triggers at 21"

I'm thinking if he's with your back line creating a "Storm" of firepower

i have a question for anyone here, i recently picked up tau. in the accompanying drones rule it says " drones are treated of having the battlefield roll of the unit they accompany" does that mean for the sake of command points, supporting drones take up a slot? i can have 2 units of 5 breachers, 1 with a tactical drone, making that 3 troops? if so what does that mean for crisis battlesuits? each suit can take 2 drones. so for 3 suits with 2 drones each (6 drones), is that 2 squads or 4?
MrDuckAlmighty just like every other group there’s people that don’t care to have new players, however I’m always down for new players and to see more Tau players especially, also if you need more help there are Facebook pages for Tau players where we throw ideas around and ask questions a lot, I do a lot of batrep summaries of my games at my local shop and stuff as well
aye. its rare at least where im with to find people into warhammer. we form groups but drama always kills it off.its a delicate thing. and being a returning player from 4th and 5th ed, ive never been more excited about warhammer. people at my club agree that its the time you return to warhammer is when youre most hooked.

what happened to your last 2k point army roaster with Stormsugre included does it still work as well in 8th. edition ?
Yes that was 7th edtion. The Stormsurge is ok...just wanted to try out other units. Bit of a fire magent though!:)
Yes should work well....give it a try. The list should still be strong:) @@michalbarciak4504
@@StrikingScorpion82 And about chapter approved changes I can it change it quite a lot so maybe they will be room for some additional upgrades? What do you think.
you can't have 4 guns and a support system on a commander - you get 4 hardpoints to split up between both weapons and support systems
I prefer 3 cyclic ions and ATS for 9 shots
lol one of the old lead ones...…… my space marine dreadnought is the old lead dreadnought I have to warn people against touching it for to long and when the poor brother was destroyed in hand to hand with a plastic model terminator my opponent jumped up laughing as he had finally destroyed it in combat as it had been his bain all game knocked the table and it fell over onto his model breaking the arms off
lol:)
Commander Blasto! :D
Commander red typhoon, commander great tsunami
You OVerwatch on 5+, if the assaulting unit is within 6
It reads "When a unit with this tenent uses their "For the greater good" ability, or when they fire Overwatch whist they are within 6 of a friendly sept unit"
commander shadowstrike? commander Darktide?
Bone from T.T has the Shadowstrike Enclave. So that one is kinda out great minds tho and all that
!
Finally
Personally i think the Ghostkeel should take fusion collider, 2x fusion blaster, shield gen and target lock.
A minus 2 to hit outside 6" with a 4+ invuln and a potential of 5 fusion shots is pretty scary for a lot of armies to face.
You can even run 2 of them and keep them close to allow the 5+ overwatch except that does get expensive at 398pts for a pair.
Yeah that sounds a great way to use them:)
Commander Ralph
Commander allsight
Commander Ko tanku. It means 'anti tank' in Japanese
Charlie Campbell the Japanese for anti tank is taisensha, 対戦車. Means opposing war car (tank). Commander Tai'sensha works too.
Shas'O Naruto
I hate how things point value does not include stuff it has to take...its pointless.
