At 66 yrs of age I am so overwhelmed with all the great music out there that I've never heard. Thank you Misha for giving us access, especially with our beloved Jascha at the helm!
This is LIVE? For 1972 its well miked!
Concert performance, not staged.
@@mishoren13 months before the Maestro's death he really still was expanding his repertoire and exhibiting powerful interpretation.
@@maestroclassico5801 Yes, one of the most notable aspects of his career was Horenstein's inclusion of new (for him) music into his programs, right up to the end of his life. Just to take some of the items he conducted for the first time from 1970 on:- these included S&D above, Prokofiev Sym. 6; Nielsen nos 3 & 6; Strauss Alpine Symph; Bruckner symph. no. 5 (!); 4 orch. pieces by Panufnik; music by Robert Simpson; Britten's War Requiem and finally at the end just before he died, Parsifal. There were others.
@@mishoren He just got around to Bruckner 5 right toward the end! Is it recorded ? His other Bruckner is so amazing. WOW! Panufnik is so underrated it's great JH put it out there before his death.
@@maestroclassico5801 Bruckner 5 here, one of Horenstein's greatest performances.
