@@lewisbennington8075 I bet if that car got unloaded and filled with Nitrogen it would still show bubbles in the thermowell. It's going to be a hard leak to find. I've seen a low pressure car do the same thing and it took two day to fix that leak, even with pressuring the thermowell tube.
Most likely no. The nipple with a cap that is seen in the video is threaded into the top side of the pressure plate. Its threads do not go through the pressure plate. On the underside of the pressure plate the thermometer tube is welded onto the plate. This way the top side nipple and cap can be replaced without affecting the inner tube. Hope this helps.
I think it depends on the manufacturer. I did have to shop a car whose threaded in t-well nipple was bent over. When it came back they had welded in a new one. About 2/3's of the cars I receive have threaded in t-well nipples.
I do believe on LPG railcars they are supposed to be welded. Unfortunately we are unionized and we cannot even add glycol to a railcar. Stealing someone's job yet they don't even know! Trust me I've ask. Some are, most are nothing but a nipple. Think about it, they are pressurized cars!
I find car seals continuously inside the domes. I put pails out to collect them yet operators continue to throw them in the dome or on the ground.
In a case like this I would use a gas tester. And yes they can rupture also. That's why were careful taking these off checking for pressure.
That thermowell is definitely leaking. You should never see bubbles in the anti freeze. That car needs to be home shopped
I agree! It took 14 weeks to get final approval to OTMA this to a shop.

Is it possible that over-torquing the cap at the refinery compromised the thermowell attachment to the car?

Question? I keep getting thermal wells that are threaded to the pressure plate. Are they not supposed to be welded?
