Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrated to honour the elephant-headed God Ganesha's birthday. He is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Ganesha is known by 108 different names and is the Lord of arts and sciences and the deva of wisdom. He is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies as he's considered the God of beginnings. He's widely and dearly referred to as Ganapati or Vinayaka.

In bihar , we celebrate "chhath pooja" ...
Chhath is a Vedic ritual dedicated to Hindu solar deity Surya, and goddess Shashthi (also called Chhathi Maiyya). It has also been mentioned in both the major Indian epics - In Ramayana, when Rama and Sita returned Ayodhya, then people celebrated Deepawali, and on its sixth day Ramrajya was established. On this day Rama and Sita kept fast and Surya Shashthi/Chhath Puja was performed by Sita. Hence, she was blessed with Luv and Kush as their sons. While in the Mahabharata, Chhath Puja was performed by Draupadi/ Kunti after they escaped from Lakshagrih.....

@@vishwasgaikwad1414 from 1900 to 2000 the areas covered by forests decreased from 30% to 20 % and i don't think even 0.00001% of them were due to hindu festivals and during holi majorly cow dung is burned which emits chemicals that kill many pathogens. And now lots of people have stopped dumping festival waste in rivers. Teach the peacefull community who slaughter animals on their festivals

Hinduism is a culture intermingled with science. For eg: lord nataraja is the symbol of cycle of existence. That's why the large hadron collider has a statue of nataraja on their facility. Infact even Carl segan has said that Hinduism and science is very much a part of each other and was very fascinated to the extent that he visited our country a lot of times.

I am really curious to know about the Indian culture and traditions, but when I ask the reason and fact behind every customs to my parents or elders, they just reply aggressively "Don't ask why!" and start nagging at me like I am an atheist! I started watching your videos since you highlighted the flood problems in Assam and I really appreciate the effort made by you guys in making the '100 REASONS TO LOVE INDIA' Series!!! Loads of love, support and respect from Assam.
It's okay for them to not be able to answer every question. There's a logic and reason why all logics were not transferred generation by generation, it being the fact that generations before it was considered rude to question your elders so they kept mute and followed what was being taught. In between, the reasoning went for a toss and rituals took shape.

Yes! I love Ganesh Chaturthi! I would like to share a incident... Meri ek childhood best friend hai.. Humara jhagada hota hai & Ganesh chaturthi pe hum mil jaate hai, but that's just a coincidence jo is saal nhi hua! Is saal mujhe aarti krne bhi nhi mila! This was a regretful Ganesh Chaturthi 😭... But still Ganesh chaturthi is my favourite festival because it spreads happiness and brings everyone together + it's a festival of purification!

My parents used to say me that "don't cut nails at night".
When I ask the reason behind it. They say "don't ask why?, Just don't do it"
When I tried to think about it. I got the following reason: "In earlier times at night there were no electric bulbs at night. So, nights were darker. If u cut nails in those times then, perhaps u will not be able to collect all the nails and it may sting to u while walking that path." But now we have electricity and homes at night are as bright as day. So, this rule was good way back then, but not now.
That's good thinking. But if someone asks you about that, say this also (maybe say this first) - "There were no Nail Cutters back then and people used to cut nails with knives or scissor-ish instruments. So stepping on cut nails aside, people could have cut their fingers instead"

But as this 5day practice happens in my won house, I am very much associated with the methods of 'Puja (mainly offerings) ' & i have noticed that the ingredients required for the offering to Devi Durga is very much useful for our health. I found this very interesting.
