Father Kelly’s Reel is a melodic G-key reel composed by Father P. J. Kelly. This tune features several opportunities to insert rolls, triplet runs, and grace notes. This is a great tune to add to your session playing repertoire. Kevin Burke walks us through his version of the tune in this lesson.
This reel is composed by Father PJ Kelly of the Columban Fathers.. He grew up in East Co. Galway but became a missionary so spent time in Australia, Fiji and Pakistan. He played piano accordian and wrote quite a few tunes. He called this tune Rossmore Jetty, which was a place he often swam from as a child and it held a lot of memories for him.
Thanks, Kevin!
Gonna learn that one, thanks .
Great tune
