  • Vader's Sorrow - Sad Orchestral Music Inspired By Star Wars - Cinematic Music
"In the aftermath of Padmé's demise, Anakin cradled her lifeless body, his anguished cries echoing through the barren corridors of his soul. The weight of regret hung heavy in the air, a suffocating shroud that mirrored the darkness enveloping his once-promising spirit. With each tear that fell, Anakin unwittingly forged a covenant with the shadows, allowing the searing pain of loss to become the twisted fuel propelling him further into the abyss of the dark side."

    The Force shall free me."

The heartbreaking loss of Padme catalyzed Anakin into Darth Vader, but gaining love through Luke facilitated the redemption of Darth Vader, ultimately resurrecting Anakin Skywalker.

Not quite, I'd argue Vader *is* Anakin. He's always been the terrible monster that Vader becomes. Just until Sidious claimed him, he still had people that he cared for. People that believed in him and he didn't want to disappoint. Slaughtering a tribe of Tusken Raiders in revenge wasn't out of character for Anakin. That was basically the exact type of terrible brutality Vader becomes known for. Luke was the first person in decades who believed Anakin was better than that and Anakin cared enough about Luke for his opinion to matter.

Anakin was slowly being corrupted by the dark side of the force and by his future mentor, who, hypothetically created some form of link to him through the force. Anakin, if he never met Palpatine, would have probably stayed himself and only had ran off with Padme and overtime he'd become more conscientious of going into battle with the mentality that he can overcome everything and anything. If the story went a bit differently then it might have been another Sith to have found him and tried to convert him. Anakin is Anakin, when the force isn't being used to control emotions. He's a good guy who was forced to do horrible things in his journey to try and save the ones he loves. It's his war experience and being used to loss that makes him seem more evil than he really is. As good as the story is written, realistically he'd have killed Palpatine long ago and the entire universe would have been different than we all saw it at the movies or at home.
It's funny. I was just having the thoughts earlier of how he actually took a moment after Alderann was destroyed and showed what most people in that kind of power probably feel when they are forced into witnessing someone else bad decisions and forced to give the orders to carry out that decision. Remorse, regret, sadness, maybe even fear over what such a weapon could do to the universe. I'm sure he felt all of the sorrow, the helplessness, the fear, and the anguish of those whose lives were almost instantly extinguished. You can't see his face. But I'm sure he never smiled even once. As we all see, he lowers his head in what appears to be thought. Then, he turns around and walked away.
Ever wonder what he thinks about when he is in his command chamber or his own chambers? Probably about the loss of all of his loved ones. The feeling of being trapped into his fate without any help to get out of it. The books themselves say he trains apprentices to kill the emperor. But, you have to wonder what George Lucas was thinking. Was it that Vader couldn't bring himself to kill Palpatine due to his search for finding the way to keep others from dieing, including his self? Was it because he'd walk away from the empire eventually without Palpatine running it all and leaving it to a bunch of men and women incapable of running it? Was it due to him feeling some form of friendship that was constantly in question due to the length of time it was taking to find the means to live forever and eventually just resigned himself to just running the empire and constantly staying busy with the missions he was given or he set for himself?
Vader is very easy to read if you watch the movie a few times. You get the chance to see the parts you saw before with a different point of view due to seeing it prior. It begins to make you think about his role in the universe and in the movies.
Order 66. People think is cool due to the action you see in the movie. It's a scary order. If the Jedi, who run the military in the movie didn't know about it or didn't know it had been changed if they did know... Then it makes you wonder about some things when it comes to the bureaucracy running the military. To have an order that the generals don't know about with their own troops is a scary thing indeed. It leaves you to wonder why they never found out what it meant when it got changed. That one order caused the events to happen that ultimately changed Anakin's life forever. It also ended so many innocent lives as well.
If that order had never been given or existed, then Anakin may have never changed. If so, Palpatine would have had to manipulate something different to cause him to feel like a monster for what he was forced to do. He was compelled by the dark side of the force and Palpatine was the one compelling him. Anakin is forced to do what he'd never do due to one old man who wanted complete control over everything and couldn't ever see that the force and those manipulating the universe besides him was keeping him from learning what he wanted to live forever. Not once did he think about the foolishness of killing Darth Plagueis. Someone did though. Either another Sith, an alien, or maybe even Plagueis himself was. Maybe Plagueis saw that his would never be worthy of learning what he could teach or that he was incapable. Maybe he realized that killing him and him being bound to an old tradition of an apprentice would mean another that would try to kill him instead of being the wiser and just learning to live without that rule. Plagueis had empathy. Meaning he probably couldn't bring himself to kill the poor man, but at the same time he might have been tired of the plots against his life. Who knows.
It all affects Anakin though. I imagine Anakin would have those same thoughts l did and others have had. The true monster in that movie was Palpatine. Vader just carried out orders as he had always done. Most of his ambition dwindling away over the years with Palpatine's false promises and the loss of Padme, his mother, and as he thought, his children. Even in the books, from what I know and can ascertain, all of his other relationships didn't last long. Probably for various reasons. People romantically assume Padme... But, I'm sure the Empire, Palpatine, and various other factors always got in the way of him settling down.
The monster Darth Vader was never a monster. The man compelling him through the force is. Vader is perceived that way due to the rules, laws, and doctrines of the Empire and the Sith. If they didn't exist in such harshness, then I'm sure we'd have seen a different man in the movie. A man who is expanding an Empire that he runs in another man's name. A man who is always in thought of what he is doing, what he has done when not in battle, and what the future may hold for the Empire and the Universe.
The hype of being Vader probably isn't as evil and glorious as some perceive it to be. It's a hard life of misunderstandings of him, him struggling with his past and present situations, the feeling of probably being alone. What friends does he have? His only goals that are portrayed outside whatever orders come in are exploration and expansion. I'm sure even he didn't want to always go to the new places they'd find under orders. I'm sure he would rather have just taken that tie fighter of his and just escape the whole thing at times. You wonder how many times did he just want to leave and never return... Let Palpatine run it all... He probably only stayed because he knew even he couldn't run the empire the way he did. Vader was always more responsible and had the personality and training to lead the empire without many disasters. It's not his orders that blew up a planet. It was a power hungry man who didn't think of the people when it came to showing his power. A power only afforded to him because of his control over the one man who could have taken it all from him if he wanted to, but had no intention to lead the way Palpatine did when it came to bureaucracy and the empire. Vader didn't feel he made the best leader in those regards.
It's just a sad story of a man led into darkness. A man who found out his two reasons to finally want to live life possibly without the empire would ultimately have him make the decision to end his own life to save his children's lives and future. If he had only known they were alive, the empire probably would have never lasted long. He'd most likely have joined Alderann's military or some other planet's military to train new Jedi and troops to withstand an attack from the Empire. Thus forcing his and his children's hands in taking out the threat to the solar system in which they lived. Maybe even going past that to take out Palpatine his self. I imagine he'd have lived out his time spending time with his family and creating a military to do so so he could.
Revan is similar in this way. But for him, it's saving everyone. He also did what they failed to have Vader do, which is master immortality. Oddly, like Vader, I don't think either mastered all the Jedi and Sith powers. If they did, they didn't discuss it all in full. Oddly, enough, Vader crossing over to the Dark side ended anything else he'd learn power wise from the force. The story there felt a bit rushed.

This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever:
The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain.
The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew at your flesh. You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. You don’t even have lungs anymore. Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever. Lord Vader? Lord Vader, can you hear me? And you can’t, not in the way you once did. Sensors in the shell that prisons your head trickle meaning directly into your brain. You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you. Or perhaps the simulacrum is perfect, and it is the world that is hideous. Padme? Are you here? Are you all right? you try to say, but another voice speaks for you, out from the vocabulator that serves you for burned-away lips and tongue and throat. Padme? Are you here? Are you all right? I’m very sorry, Lord Vader. I’m afraid she died. It seems in your anger, you killed her. This burns hotter than the lava had. No…no, it is not possible! You love her. You have always loved her. You could never will her death. Never. But you remember…You remember all of it. You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth… And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker.
That it was all you. Is you.
    Only you.
    You did it.
    You killed her.
You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself…
It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith - Because now yourself is all you will ever have. And you rage and scream and reach through the Force to crush the shadow who has destroyed you, but you are so far less now than what you were. You are more than half machine, you are like a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf, you can remember where the power was but the power you can touch is only a memory, and so with all your world-destroying fury it is only droids around you that implode, and equipment, and the table on which you were strapped shatters, and in the end, you cannot touch the shadow. In the end, you do not even want to. In the end, the shadow is all you have left. Because the shadow understands you, the shadow forgives you, the shadow gathers you unto itself- And within your furnace heart, you burn in your own flame. This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker.
    Forever…

It is quite interesting to compare this music to the slow movement of Rodrigo's concerto de Amurez for guitar (though Miles Davis did a marvellous trumpet version of it too off his album Sketches of Spain) In both pieces there is that ambience of very deep and grave melancholy. I remember how when I watched the Revenge of the Sith in the cinema, when the Vadar Helmet was put on Anakin after he had got severely burnt in the lava planet the whole cinema erupted into applause. People do love a good baddie. Though Anakin is also rather like Shakespears Macbeth or Lucifer in the old testament.

People really think the death of Padme sent him over to seal the deal as a sith. I beg to differ, it was the disbelief of such chaotic events and him severing his ties with the Jedi. He knew he was at a point of no return and all that was left to do is to just live, and the only way he could live was as a sith. I think he would have wanted to just die there on Mustafar, and end his misery and guilt

Anakin manifest Destinies his own personal fear, then because he's already gone to a level 10 of paranoia and lost his entire Life by playing his really stupid selfish cards, he says "fuck it" and cranks it up to 20 by adopting the ways of the Sith which specifically requires you to always look over your shoulder and try to kill your superior. The sorrow of Vader is of his own making. He was manipulated by Palpatine, he was undermined by the Jedi council, but he's specifically allowed himself to choke out his own wife.
